Fast forward about 10 years and another major writing assignment delineates itself
in my mind. It was fall semester of my freshman year here at ESU. In my 19th
Century History class, the professor assigned us a research essay comparing a
Union prison during the civil war to Andersonville Prison in the South. We had to
use a book my professor wrote about Andersonville to compare and contrast the two
prisons. We were assigned this paper at the beginning of the semester and had all
semester to work on it. By the time I handed it in, it had grown to a whopping
twenty five pages and over eight thousand words. This remains by far the longest
and most detailed paper I have written. From a simple haiku in 4th grade to a
comprehensive research essay during my freshman year of college, I have
experienced many different types and styles of assignments. As the more difficult
assignments have been assigned, I have noticed that I have a few weaknesses as
well as strengths that are affecting my writing. Although I have outgrown many of
my old writing weaknesses, I have also developed new ones that affect my writing
to varying degrees. One weakness is that I tend to become overly wordy in order to
reach the desired length of the assignment. It s a continual mystery to professors why
some students feel compelled to include material that clearly isn t relevant to the

Ramona, is a novel that follows a half Native American and half Scottish orphan
named Ramona. The nova is mainly a love story between Ramona and a Native
American man from LuiseГ±o tribe called Alessandro. They both fall in love, get
married and have kids. Throughout the novel Ramona gets exposed to several
different Native American groups, such as the LuiseГ±o Cahuilla, DiegueГ±o, and
CupeГ±o. The novel gives us insight at the time of each group through Jackson.
Jackson portrays the LuiseГ±o tribe throughout the novel in several different

The close up on Frankenstein as he speaks his final words focuses all our attention
on him. We suddenly have a feeling of anger towards the monster as he has just
tortured a suffering man to death. The situation here is that creator has been
destroyed by his creation. The film then tries to make us feel sorry for the monster.
This is shown during the scene in which Captain Walton comes down into his
cabin shortly after Frankenstein s death after hearing a groan from below deck
and finds the creature weeping over the corpse of the recently deceased scientist.
Walton asks the creature what he is and he answers with he was my father. This

This scene tries to increase the sympathy successfully when the creature also says
he never gave me a name. This adds to the sympathy by making us feel guilty that

point the scene changes to the funeral of Frankenstein and we can see that the

of resisting ampicillin. IPTG, the inducible promoter, results in the production of
color. With gene regulation, competent cells can acclimate to their environment due
to methods of turning genes on and off5.
