Various engagement strategies are outlined, including using direct eye contact and point-of-view shots in music videos, replicating a popular artist's style in the digipak, interacting on social media and websites, creating quizzes and competitions, and getting audience feedback to improve future work. 4. WEB 2.0
• Since Web 2.0 content became easy to produce and distribution became
open, limitless. Consumers became producers and audience shifted from
passive to active.
• This is due to convergence, which allowed users film, edit and share
using only one device/smartphones which have a better quality than the
professional cameras 5 years ago. Audience enjoy using converged
technology, this puts into a question in terms of are the producers still
the ones who are in charge of setting the preferred reading.
5. USES & GRATIFICATION
• Audience use media to fulfil personal and emotional needs. Uses and Gratification
theory uses assumptions that user had alternate choices to satisfy their needs.
• Through the use of point of view shots I gave the audience the ability to escape the
reality and make them feel as if they were in that actresses place.
• It can also relate to personal Identify, since the lyrics in this song are deep and
emotional, the story of my music video is a metaphorical way of saying that no one is
perfect but they just have to overcome their fears and show who is really in control.
This enables the audience to reflect upon themselves and feeling a sense of belonging
with the lyrics.
• For example song ”see you again” by Wiz Khalifa, the song has a deep meaning as the
lyrics are dedicated to a friend who recently passed away. In the video the performer is
saying that nothing is over and they will see each other again.
• Another reason why audience might relate to this music video is because of the
unusual
6. ADDRESSING MY AUDIENCE THROUGH
MY MUSIC VIDEO
• I tried to engage my audience through direct gaze. In some scenes I had
my artist looking directly into the camera, to make my audience feel like
they are there as if it was a performance which was made especially for
them.
• I have also used point of view shots to engage my audience and to allow
them to feel the same feelings as my actress in the video. This type of
shot was used in different types of music videos. This allowed the
audience to intertextualise this shot with other music videos from
different times. For example, “Smack My Bitch Up” by The Prodigy which
was released in 1997, this allows me to target my secondary audience,
this music video is based around continuous point of view shots.
Another example is “False Alarm” by The Weeknd, this music video was
released in 2016 which makes it knew and relatable for my primary
target audience.
7. DIGIPAK
• To engage my audience thought my digipak, I have manipulated the
mode of address in my introduction inside my digipak. I have used
plural pronouns such as ”we” and “us” to make my audience feel like we
are all together.
• Although we have used a lot of make-up, her costume is a fashion
statement which is worn by teenagers. This allows my audience to relate
to Halsey and follow her fashion senses.
The image on the left is
Halsey, I chose this
image to illustrate her
style. The image on the
right is an image of my
singer in my music
video. I tried to
replicate Haley's style
through similar skirt

8. ENGAGING WITH MY AUDIENCE
THROUGH MY WEBSITE
• On my website I have attached my social media accounts. On the second
page audience could find the feed from my twitter and photos which are
attached to my Instagram.
• Audience could also find a video which won the competition for the best
lyric video for the sing “Control”
• I have also added a pop-up for subscription which informs my fans when
the new merchandise is coming and any upcoming news about the
artist.
9. SOCIAL MEDIA
• For my project I have created three social media accounts; Twitter,
Facebook and Instagram.
• To engage my audience I have used pronouns such as “we, us, you” in
my tweets and Facebook posts. In that way I could talk to my audience
to make them feel like they are friends with the artist.
• Another way I have used social media is to get feedback on my music
videos and digipak. Here is an example taken from my Instagram
account.

11. QUIZ
• To find my target audience I have created a quiz on quotev.com
• I have asked question on how well do people know Halsey.
• Using this quiz I was able to identify as well as to engage my audience. I
have noticed that quizzes became very popular over the past two years
and I thought that creating one for my audience would be great idea as
it would be something that could entertain then.

12. LYRIC VIDEO
• In order to engage my audience I have created a competition. I have
posted it on all Haley's social medias; Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
• I first informed the audience of the Competition and then posted the
winner on all Halsey accounts including my website.
13. CONCLUSION
• In conclusion I think that I have successfully engaged my audience. I
have created a lyric video competition, informed them about my filming,
updates on the website and asked their opinion on my work. However, I
think that there are still some improvements to be made. After looking
at my three end products I have realised that I should have had some
audience interaction within the video. I could have had some audience in
my music video, because the scenes where I have filmed were isolated I
didn't have a chance to have anyone behind the main characters.
