3.WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED
FROM YOUR AUDIENCE
FEEDBACK?
Q3.
 DESIGN A QUESTIONNAIR. THIS CAN BE CARRIED OUT VIA SURVEY MONEKY,SOCIAL MEDIA AND/OR VOX POP.
 THIS QUESTION SHOULD BE PRESENTED IN A FILM FORMAT AND IS ARGUABLE THE MOST COMPLEX TO ANSWER.
 THE QUESTIONNAIR MUST OBTAIN FEEDBACK ON THE MUSIC VIDEO AND ANCILLARY TEXTS.
 WHEN ANALYSING THE FEEDBACK, CONSIDER WHO YOU ARE INTERVIEWING. ARE THEY A CROSS SECTION OF
SOCIRTY, NICHE MARKET OR SELECTION OF THE TARGET AUDIENCE? WHICH DO YOU THINK WOULD BE MOST
APPROPRIATE?
 WHEN ANALYSING THEIR RESPONSE CONSIDER INCORPORATING STUART HALL’S RECEPTION THEORY (AND OTHER
AUDIENCE THEORY). YOU WILL HAE TO CONSIDER HOW YOU BUILD THIS INTO YOUR ORIGINAL QUESTIONS IN
ORDER TO EXTRACT THE MOST USEFUL INFORMATION OUT OF THEIR RESPONSES.
 CONSIDER COMPARING THE RESPONSE OF DIFFERNET DEMOGRAPHIC GROUPS. MALE VS FEMALE PERHAPS?
(PARTICULARYLY IF YOU HAVE CONTRUCTED POSITIVE/NEGATIVE STEROTYPES/COUNTERTYPES ASSOCIATED WITH
GENDER..)
In order to receive honest feedback for our trailer we decided to film a mini interview, asking them the
questions on the previous slide. Although the target audience for our film are people around my own age both
male and female, I wanted to make sure to get a variety of feedback from a cross section of society.
- We made sure to ask a cross section of society and incorporate our target audience as well. We asked:
- 1 Asian female in her 20s
- 1 18 year old white female
- 1 18 year old white male
- This was very useful however the most appropriate people for feedback considering our target audience,
would have to be the people in their teens.
- For the survey for my poster and website I asked a wider variety of people all within my target audience to
get a larger collection of results.
Who did I survey?
QUESTIONAIRE ON TRAILER
 WHAT GENRE WOULD YOU SAY THIS FILM IS?
 WHAT WAS THE FIRST THING THAT SUGGESTED THE
GENRE TO YOU?
 WHAT DO YOU EXPECT WILL HAPPEN IN THE FILM?
 IS THERE ANYTHING THAT PARTICUALLY SUGGESTED
THIS?
 WHAT QUESTIONS ARE RAISED BY THE TRAILER THAT
YOU EXPECT TO BE ANSWERED IN THE FILM?
 GIVE 1 REASON WHY THIS TRAILER MAY HABE
PURSUADED YOU TO GO TO SEE THE FILM?
 ARE THERE ANY IMPROVEMENTS THAT COULD BE
MADE?
For the questionnaire on our
trailer we decided that filming
the response was the best
way to get an honest
response.
Feedback Videos on our trailer:
SEE VIDEOS BELOW ON BLOG
TRAILER FEEDBACK
 The response to these questions on the trailer were very consistent.
 The feedback for the trailer I received was overall the most positive of the three media texts.
Everyone surveyed said positive things about the trailer, understood it well and very few things
were picked up on that needed to be changed however there was one slight suggestion to adjust
the audio quality. As this is something that we are not going to be marked on we all agreed that
there was no necessary need to change it.
 Most of the people asked also said that they would watch the film from the trailer which was again
something that I saw to be very positive due to the fact that the main aim of a trailer is to attract
our target audience to watch the actual film, and looking at our feedback videos we successfully
achieved this.
STUART HALL’S RECEPTION THEORY
 According to Stuart Hall’s Reception Theory my audience is viewing the trailer, poster and website
with the dominant hypothetical code of interpretation.
 They will easily be able to relate to these characters and be able to put themselves into their shoes.
This is due to the fact that the film is based on people their own age and involves a relatable story
line. This means that it is unlikely that they will interpret the trailer/film any differently as due to the
relatable story line they will find it easier to understand. Therefore improving the success of the
media texts.
CONDUCTING THE SURVEY FOR POSTER & WEBSITE
How was the survey conducted?
 To conduct my survey I asked a selection of 10 people both male and female a selection of
questions.
 These results were then recorded for both of the ancillary texts I created.
POSTER QUESTIONS & RESULTS
 Do you like the look of the poster? Is is aesthetically pleasing?
 Are there any improvements to be made to it?

POSTER FEEDBACK
• The feedback I received for the poster was overall very
positive with 75% of people saying that they liked the
overall look of the poster and found it aesthetically
pleasing.
• As a result this shows that a vast proportion of my target
audience find the poster attractive and due to this I see
the poster as being successful as a high proportion of my
target audience agree and find it attractive and as a
result were likely to go and see the film or look into it In
more detail from this poster.
• From the feedback for suggested improvements I
decided that nothing needed to be changed from the
poster.
• This is due to the fact that there were only two
suggested improvements and 70% of people agreed that
no improvements were necessary. Therefore I did not see
this as a high enough number considering that only 30%
of those surveyed saw flaws with the poster. I therefore
decided not to changed the poster after receiving this
feedback.
WEBSITE QUESTIONS & RESULTS

WEBSITE FEEDBACK
• The overall feedback that I received for my website
was again very positive however a few people felt
that the website was lacking buttons and other
interactive aspects and due to the simplicity of it
and they would expect something more complete.
• Although, when the people surveyed were shown
the website for ‘The Visit’ they agreed that the
website I created was very similar to this and the
simplicity worked well. Due to this I decided to
stick to my original design of the website as it
follows the correct codes and conventions of the
Supernatural Horror genre and the majority of the
people I asked liked it.

  • 17. WEBSITE FEEDBACK • The overall feedback that I received for my website was again very positive however a few people felt that the website was lacking buttons and other interactive aspects and due to the simplicity of it and they would expect something more complete. • Although, when the people surveyed were shown the website for ‘The Visit’ they agreed that the website I created was very similar to this and the simplicity worked well. Due to this I decided to stick to my original design of the website as it follows the correct codes and conventions of the Supernatural Horror genre and the majority of the people I asked liked it.
