One of the most important aspects of filmmaking is sound. Sound can include non-diegetic elements like soundtracks, as well as diegetic elements like dialogue and environmental sounds. This document analyzes sound elements in famous comedy, thriller, and action movie scenes. Specific examples are given from The Hangover, Lethal Weapon, and The Dark Knight to illustrate the use of non-diegetic soundtracks, diegetic dialogue and effects, on-screen versus off-screen sounds, sound bridges, and foley recording techniques. Sound is a major component of building atmosphere and realism in movies.
