Q1. How Do Your Products Use Or Challenge Conventions
1. 1. How Do Your Products Use Or Challenge Conventions?
2. Textual Codes: The title of the film is
centralized on the postcard and includes the
magnifying glass. I have then included the tag
line below it which I think looks visually
appealing.
Visual Codes: In my postcard I
used a photo that I had taken
myself to represent the
warehouse which is a big
feature of our short film.
Textual Codes: I have featured 3 characters on the front of the
postcard. I decided to centralize the main character Agent Royce, who
is looking to take down two members from the SANTAN Gang who I
have turned into to silhouettes. From this you can only see the outline
of their bodies not their faces so their identity is hidden.
Reviews and Nominations:
Here I have displayed the
two nominations which we
displayed for our film
Social Media: Here I have
put the logos and links for
our social media which we
have created. These include
Twitter, Facebook and
Instagram
Textual Codes: The bottom of
my postcard includes
information about the
characters, production company
as well as the website link
Visual Codes: I have put the
main Agent in the center of
my postcard to portray the
importance of him within
the film. The Agent role is
presented by him wearing a
neat looking suit whilst also
being on the phone
3. Visual Codes: Similarly to the front of
my postcard I have kept the same
theme on the back. One way of doing
this was including a similar background
image, consisting of the warehouse
Textual Codes: On the back
of the postcard I have
decided to include Agent
Briggs who works behind the
scenes. I tried to portray his
role of working behind the
scene, by including him away
from everyone else on the
back of the postcard. This
representing how he isn’t
seen by the other criminals
in the short film
Textual Codes: Here I have included the two logos
for the two organisations the PFIB, on the left and
the SANTAN Gang, on the right.
Textual Codes: Here I have
included a description of
what the short film is about.
I have included this to
inform an audience about
what to expect before
watching the film. It is
important that this is kept
short but is engaging
meaning the viewer wants
to go and then watch the
film.
4. Film Website Annotation- Homepage
The top of the website consists of the
headings for different pages for the
website
The background is the same image of a
warehouse as the back of the postcard,
emphasising the branding cohesiveness.
Title of the film with the
magnifying glass as well as
the tag line feature in the
middle of the homepage.
Social media displayed on
every page at the bottom,
allowing the viewers to
access our different
platforms easily.
The colour scheme is something which I have kept the same
throughout to keep the branding the same and make it stand out to
the audience when they see one of my products
5. Film Website Annotations- About Page
This page includes a short summary of what our film is about and is a good
introduction for the viewer when they first look at the website. This is a similar
piece of writing to what is on the back of my postcard as it sums up our short
film very well. It is very important that we included enough information to
make the viewer watch the film, however, you don’t want to include too much
information about the film otherwise the viewers may not want to watch the
film.
6. Film Website Annotations- Release information
One of the three pages within the about page is the release information. This
displays nominations from the film as well as the actual release date for the short
film
7. Film Website Annotations- Film postcard
The second page within the about page is about my film postcard which I
created. This page shows the front and back of the film postcard.
8. Film Website Annotations-Trailer
The final page within the about page, features the trailer for our
short film conned. The trailer is very good, especially on the website
as it provides the viewer an insight to what the short film has to
offer and is likely to engage the audience and want them to watch
the whole short film.
9. Film Website Annotations- Meet the cast and
crew
Within this part of the website there are two section ‘Meet the Cast’ and ‘Meet the Crew’. In the Meet the
Cast section I have included photos of each member of the cast with the same background photo of the
warehouse to emphasise branding cohesion. As well as this I have included the logo of the organisation that
they are in. When in this section you can actually click on the photo of one of the characters and it will take
you to a page about them, explaining their role in the film.
10. Film Website Annotations- Meet the Crew
The section within ‘Meet the Cast is ‘Meet the Crew’ which makes the viewers
aware of who did what within the making of the short film. These roles include,
directors, cameramen, cinematographers, editors and actors.
11. Film Website Annotations- Reviews and
Nominations
The next page on the website is the reviews and nominations page. This page consists of different
reviews from specific media companies as well as a collation of pictures from the film. This page is
important as the viewers are allowed to see what professional media companies think of the film
and will help the viewers decision on whether to watch the film or not.
Reviews
Collation of images
12. Film Website Annotations- Gallery
This page of the website is the Gallery which consists of 4 sections. Firstly, the actual gallery.
Secondly, a gallery of the organisations in the film. Thirdly, a gallery from images on location
from filming. Finally, a gallery of the different characters from the film. Each of these are
important as they give the viewers a visual representation of the different things going on in the
film.
13. Film Website Annotations- Contact
The final page on the website consists of a contact page. This is
good as viewers can contact us to find out other information if
any, which they haven’t already found on the website.
