Evaluation question 1 reese
1. Includes social networking website links
On our website we chose to follow the
conventions of using social networking site
links because it gives people additional
knowledge that may not be included on the
website.
2. Includes a trailer
On our website we included a trailer as it is vital
that any audiences viewing our website gains
the choice to view the trailer which could gain
us a wider audience.
3. Includes the title of the film
We included the title of the film on our website as it
is vital as any audiences viewing our film will need to
know the name of the film if they want to watch it
later at the cinema. Without the title of the film
audiences wouldn’t know what film to look for when
going to the cinema.
4. Actors names are included
In our website we included the actors names in the corner
as this gives the audience a personal experience as if they
like the actor in the film they may want to watch the film
more without them included.
5. Key images
We included a key image on the website as it gives the
audience a way to remember the film. If the image was
effective it could persuade more people to come and watch
the film.
6. Characters are included
On our website, we included an image of the two
protagonists as it hints to the audience about their
personalities and their role within the film.
We also included a character profile that the audience
could view to get a bigger idea on the character that
was being portrayed.
7. Iconography
In our trailer we included iconography to give the
audience a sense of the genre we are focussing on. By
using fake blood it gives the audience a sense of the film’s
main themes and by using ropes to tie someone up. This
also gives the audience a sense of the genre.
8. Introduces the main characters
In our trailer we included main characters at the start of
our trailer as the audience needs to know who is
involved in the film and what their names are. This then
helps the audience identify the characters and also pick
apart their personalities.
9. Key moments
All interesting trailers have key moments from the film
included within them. This lets the audience take away
clips that they can remember but also they can then
judge the film based off of the key moments included in
the trailer. We used a lot of key moments in our trailer
as it’s a horror film there is a lot of competition so we
have to make the trailer look its best so we get
audiences watching it.
10. Quotations
Some films include quotations from famous people to
further increase the suspense or tension. An example of
this would be White House Down used a quotation from
Abraham Lincoln as it fitted the environment of the film
which was based around the president and the White
House. In our trailer we decided not to use quotations as it
didn’t really fit the film. If we used quotations it would
have made the film less appealing as it wouldn't’t have felt
right.
11. Voice Over
Trailers are known to use voice overs to narrate their films and
to make them more structural as audiences can then understand
the plot or understand something in the film. Voice overs are
not usually used in horrors as it doesn't’t make the film as scary
unless they are doing it for the audience to understand the plot.
This is why we didn’t include a voice over as it seemed better to
just use key moments.
12. Social Networks
On a typical horror poster they usually include the social networks
for audiences viewing it to be able to then go out and further
research the film in detail. In our poster we included social networks
as it lets the audiences gather additional information and to then
further research our films.
13. Title
All film posters include the title of the film in the poster as it
gives the audiences information on the film they want to go
and watch. Without titles on the poster audiences wouldn’t
know what the film is called so they wouldn't’ be able to go
and watch it at the cinemas. This is why we put the title of the
poster as it is crucial for the title to be on the poster.
14. Image
On a poster it is crucial to have an image as it is the backbone of the
poster. Having a image, no matter how much detail, will allow the
audience to then judge if they want to watch the film. Also
combining images with social networks makes it better as audiences
can then further search into the film and watch the trailer and other
additional information about the film. We decided to use an image
as it is the main part of the poster that makes it eye-catching. Using
an effective picture enhances the audience viewing it.
15. Cast/ Names
Placing the cast or names of the cast on a poster isn’t an
essential convention but it is still used by most horror posters
as people can then see the actors involved and if they like
them they may want to go see the film more than what they
would have without including the names. We decided to use
this as audiences can relate our names to other films we have
been in and then they may want to watch our film even
more.
16. Slogan
Some film companies use slogans in their posters as it
appeals to audiences more by highlighting the key themes of
the films plot. Usually it is a rhetorical question and the
audience can only find the answer by watching the film. We
used a slogan as it makes the poster more appealing and it
makes the film more appealing to watch as you want the
question to make sense.
