Hello everyone,
Today, we’ll introduce the Step One Survey®--a brief, but powerful pre-hire screening tool that measures an individual’s basic work-related values early in your candidate selection process. We help organizations worldwide create high performing workforces through a scientifically-validated understanding of their people.
Although organizations differ in hiring practices, they share similar goals as they approach talent acquisition. (Click)
Today's organizations are looking to CLK reduce risk as they bring talent into the organization.
With the Step One Survey, organizations are able to CLK acquire valid insight into the candidate at the earliest part of the selection process and CLK measure basic work-related values.
One of the work-related values that organizations desire to measure is Integrity. (Click)
This may have you asking, why is employee integrity important to an organization?
Well, according to Static Brain Research Institute, employee theft and fraud cost American businesses more that $50 billon dollars annually.
With this much at stake, organizations need a way to help mitigate risks, especially in situations where businesses are in growth mode or a time of rebuilding.
In cases where massive hiring is taking place, Step One Survey allows organizations to not compromise on the quality of candidates as they process endless applicants. Let's see this visually.

In many organizations, the Step One Survey is the first screening that all applicants must pass before proceeding further in the hiring process. By filtering candidates early in the process, this tool saves you time so that you can focus on hiring the right candidates that fuel the success of your organization.
The Step One Survey is useful when sorting through large applicant pools and when measuring quality of hire.
No one can be sure what or why another person thinks in certain patterns. The Step One Survey provides cues for determining how an individual will act and react on the job. This is the reason that organizations check past employer recommendations, run background checks, and contact personal references before making a hiring decision.
Let’s look at additional reasons why organizations are already saying “yes” to the Step One Survey. (Click)
The four scales on the Step One Survey that have been validated are: integrity, substance abuse, reliability and work ethic. Let’s look at how we define each of these scales in the assessment.
Starting with Integrity— CLK this scale represents an applicant’s attitude concerning theft of money, property, data, and time. High Integrity scores represent a clear understanding of the conventional wisdom concerning theft and property asset ownership. At the LOW end, an individual is less likely to express attitudes of respect for the property of others.
(Additional language on integrity: high scores—respects property and acts socially responsible. Lower scores express a situational perspective concerning theft)
Next up is substance abuse. CLK This scale represents an applicant’s attitudes concerning personal use or distribution of illegal chemical substances. High substance abuse scores represent a lack of self-identification with drug-oriented behavior. While LOWER scores represent an open attitude concerning drug use that is often associated with those who use or distribute illegal drugs.
(Additional language substance abuse: high scores tend to understand the danger of on the job drug use, while low scores rationalize the use of drugs on the job)
CLK The reliability section on the Step One Survey represents an applicant’s attitude concerning the following procedures: dealing with authority figures, being honest, and working positively with others in the workplace. An applicant that scores high in this scale shows an understanding that an employee should be prompt, trustworthy and accountable. LOWER scorers tend to express a lack of appreciation for rules and restrictions.
(Additional language on reliability: high scores appreciate promptness, while low scores possess a carefree attitude about tardiness and accountability)
And finally, the work ethic scale CLK measures an applicant’s attitudes concerning his or her perception of the relative value of work and supervisory relationships. High work ethic scores represent an understanding of what is expected of an employee to be considered principled and compliant in the workplace. A lower score tends to indicate a lack of appreciation for what is considered principled or compliant.
(Additional language for work ethic: high scorers accept the restraint of office procedure. Lower scores can indicate an attitude about authority that may be casual)
