As part of Entrepreneurship for the Public Good, we were required to give a final summary of how our summers went. We also showed how much information we gained from entrepreneurship and local businesses that were involved with adventure tourism in the Appalachian area.

I was born in Florence, Ky but raised in Owenton, Kentucky. I am a psychology and Child and Family Studies Major and I graduate in 2022. I might add a LES minor.
This is the agenda of what I plan to do today and it goes in the order of personal growth, community entrepreneurial learning, and academic enhancement.
Entrepreneurship for the Public Good started for me, as an excuse to not go home for the summer and to stay in Berea. From the beginning of the program til now, everything I have done has a greater purpose and a greater meaning than it would have had before now. Every action I take now has a purpose, and if it does not have a purpose, then I do not waste my time on it.
the key experience for me was the weekend between week three and week four.
I needed to start doing stuff besides setting around the house and got my head into the correct space
As I hiked the mountain ridge with Tim and Brian, I felt the nature around me that fueled into my soul and mind.
In that forest, I promised myself that I would be my best self and I would strive to be more positive and to look ahead at the future instead of behind.
I learned that it is okay to fail
is that I learned that it is okay to fail
As I failed, I learned to use those failures as a stepping-stone into my way of succeeding.
I would go back and do-over again would be the Virginia Creeper Trail.
I would also maintain and keep reviews on all of the places we visited.
I would focus on was the actual interviews with people
there would be an outline of a schedule, but the schedule would not be set in stone, this was hard because I like to what I am doing before I do it
I had was that I would grow in self-confidence and be able to stick up for myself more often.
value of design thinking by knowing what design and concepts worked best with my team and continuing to stick with them even after internal battles.
Board of Directors, the Team Talent Map Tool, and the Story Board Tool
of how I need to speak to follow my career path and how often I should speak to them.
the strengths of my fellow team members and to know both the overall strengths and weaknesses of my team
it will help me stay focused on my long-term goals and to not be sidetracked by trivial challenges I face
amount of time we put into traveling around the Appalachian Region, testing the adventure tourism as we went along
experience of the cohort hiking five miles along the prototype trail Tim and Brian from Boone Outfitters were making
hyper-focus is on mental and developmental wellness versus environment and economic wellness
which can be applied to my area of focus as well, environment, and poverty have very large roles on positive childhood and mental development.
effects of logging and coal mining within the Appalachian region and then they briefly showed pictures of it.
we visited Portal 31, a retired coalmine, which told the stories of a family who worked there for generations before the mines closed
sensitive to our learning is how people tend to view the American dream
migrating to America
In the field, it seemed as though the current American Dream is to be able to make enough money to support your family and your community, and that is all.
During this summer, I was trying to accomplish a viewpoint of Appalachian Trail towns and how they worked, as well as how they helped to bring together communities and how to increase revenue for these local economies.
Critical assumptions are that people actually want the Trail Town Program within their communities and are taking measures to help better their community because, without community member’s involvement, the trail town program would not get far.
were tested and verified by our team because we interviewed and surveyed people we saw on the streets as we engaged in adventure tourism
EPG is designed to reveal and practice entrepreneurial leadership includes the idea of learning, experiencing, and then re-adjusting what we learned to fit with our experiences
experienced firsthand the kind of troubles small towns in Eastern Kentucky were having with population, and that even with the Trail Town program, many of these towns are still having trouble getting tourists and rebuilding their economy.
Entrepreneurial Strengthfinders- rainmaker
am very confident in myself and my ability to become successful and I do very rarely miss a moneymaking opportunity
positive view of risks and am able to access whether the risk was worth it or not
handle ambiguity, how to recognize opportunities, and how to advocate for change
have generalized anxiety and so I do not handle ambiguity and surprises very well, but I did my best to remain calm and to go with the flow
I managed to talk to the retired psychologists and get her contact information
Although I am loud in my words and actions, in my posts and phone calls, I have never written a letter to anyone.
(1) there is no “I” in team, (2) to succeed you have to learn from failures, (3) Entrepreneurship is a learned skill, (4) learn to discern during your endeavors, (5) leadership is a behavior, not a position, (6)actions speak louder than words, (7) unity is strength, (8) resources are key to development, (9) focus on the details, and (10) hard work will get you far, but connections will get you further.
no ”I” in the team, which means that an individual has needs and wants and they do not come before the teams. That everything is done for the best interest for the team
No matter position, you can be a leader. Also, being powerful does not make you a leader
at some point, your hard work will hit its maximum level, and then you will not get any further. However, with connections to people, you will be able to get places you otherwise would not have been able to get.

. During this video, several people talked about the devastation to the region caused by deforestation in addition, to the coal mining industry. They also went on to explain how people began to suffer from poverty at a high rate once these communities had taken over.
These multitudes of responses came from the pride these individuals felt for being from Appalachia and whether or not they agree with the things stated in Hillbilly Elegy
Crowdsourcing- found images, made sure they were along trail, edited the script, voiced over, tried to feed everyone
I found the answer to that question
Distress rank from prosperous to distressed- there is a high level of distress in Eastern Kentucky. Most are below the forty most distress counties in the US
I applied to intern with the Beshear/Coleman campaign. I have offered to have a dinner party at my house to celebrate with my fellow EPG members. August 5-9 I’ll be at Pennyrile National Resort Park in Dawson Springs.
