SELECTION OF JOURNAL
Selection of journal is one of the major steps in research publication.
Publishing your research in the right journal can help you reach a global
audience, make an impact and move forward in your career.
Important things to be followed in journal selection.
1. Identify a correct journal that’s fit your research area of research
If the articles is not fit the editors will reject the paper.
2. Check the standard of papers published in a journal and compare
with your paper.
If your paper is in same grade or higher, journal will accept your paper.

 Some journals charge processing fee or fee for color figure reproduction.
ISSN Number
International Standard serial number is an 8- digit code used to
identify the journals, magazines, newspapers and periodicals of all
kinds and all media; print and electronic.
ISSN is mandatory in several countries for publication and printed on
upper right corner of the cover page.
 In Publication website, ISSN Should shown in homepage.
The ISSN is associated with the title of the publication and it does not
include information about origin and content of publication.
If the publication is modified significantly, a new ISSN must be
assigned.

separated by a hyphen.

Peer reviewed Journals
 Peer review is defined as a process of subjecting an authors scholarly
work, research or ideas to scrutiny of others who are expert in the same
field.
 The journals perform the peer review is peer reviewed journals also known
as refereed journal or scholarly journal.
 This journals have an editorial board of subject expert who review the
articles written by researcher before accepting and publishing.
 It act as filter to ensure that only high quality research work for published.
 Peer reviewers provide suggestions to authors on how to improve the
quality of their manuscripts and also identify any errors that need to correct
before publication.

 Journals might have an open review process where the author knows the
editors and the comments are public.
 Blind or double blind methodologies are when the author does not know
the editors/reviewers and vice versa.

Science citation index
 Science Citation Index (SCI) is a citation index originally produced by the
Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) and founded by Eugene Garfield
in 1964.
 It is owned by producer Clarivate Analytics (Canada and Hong Kong).
 SCI Covers all of science and technology areas.
 SCI does not attempt to cover all publications in the sciences.
 SCI covers 3600 Journals, plus some books and conference proceedings.
 The SCIE is the larger version of SCI, covers more than 8500 notable and
significant journals across 150 disciplines of science, medicine and
technology from 1900 to the present.
 SCI is prepared by computer and cited source authors as entries.
 Journals are selected based on citation statistics-
‘IMPACT FACTOR’
Impact Factor and its Importance
 The impact factor is a metric used to evaluate the importance of a journal.
 IF is determined by calculating an average number of citations received by
the selected articles in that journal within last few years.
 It is also named as Journal Impact Factor (JIF).
 It is proposed by Eugene Eli Garfield the founder of Institute for Scientific
Information (ISI).
 IF is being regularly calculated beginning from 1975 for all the journals
registered in the Journal Citation Reports ((JCR).
 It helps to measure the relative importance of journals within particular
areas and to compare the journals within the same areas.
Impact Factor and its Importance
 The higher the JIF, the better it is ranked.
 Typically, journals with more review articles or papers are able to achieve
higher JIF.
 Impact factor is a average number of times articles from the journal
published in past two years have been cited.
