Posting Statement: “The world‟s best selling weekly rock magazine.”
Frequency of Publication: Weekly
Price: £2.20
Distribution: Supermarkets, newsagents, music shops and subscription available

The six months from 1 January to 30th June 2013, Kerrang! sold an average of 37,603 copies
per issue. In this time 26 issues were published totalling to around 977,678 copies of the
magazine sold. These were 99.4% of the copies printed.
The majority of Kerrang! readers are male and between the ages of 15-24 which adds up to
56.1% of the overall readership. Even though the audience is male headed, there is only just a
9.4% difference between the genders. The magazine is obviously more appealing to younger
than older ones as those aged 65+ are only 0.1% of the readership.
My magazine would benefit from Bauer Media advertising it as the company has many
successful platforms. They distribute the television station, magazine and radio forms of
Kerrang! As seen as listed above, Bauer Media publish a wide range of magazines. This
results in them being one of the biggest media companies in the UK and the biggest privately
owned publishing group as the majority of popular magazines found on the shelf are licensed
under their name. This means that they have a lot of experience.
KERRANG! MISSION STATEMENT
Kerrang! will ensure that we are constantly appealing to our
spectrum of readers. From the younger teenage readers who are
more open to different genres of rock music – from EMO to Thrash
etc, to the readers who respect Kerrang! as an authority when it
comes to our scene‟s heritage bands.
Each issue will include a balance of bands and scenes to guarantee
that we‟re providing for our readers‟ need for variety and their
passionate appetite for their favourite bands as well as their desire
to be introduced to new music within our world.
We will focus on the biggest things that are going on in our world
each week, as well as guaranteeing that we are giving our main base
of younger readers everything they need to get into and on top of
this the interest in older, harder bands, cementing our role as an
educator.

3. Rock Sound LTD: Rock Sound Magazine
Rock Sound magazine is independently published through its own publishing house
Rock Sound LTD.
Posting Statement: “Rock Sound magazine champions rock music and aims at
giving underground acts the recognition they deserve without over commercialising
their work or missing out on the big name in rock music.”
Frequency of Publication: Monthly
Price: £3.99
Distribution: Supermarkets, WHSmiths, Subscription including delivery
The British edition of Rock Sound was launched in March 1999 and the first issue was
published the following month. Since then, Kerrang! has been Rock Sound‟s main
competition on the UK music magazine market. Rock Sound‟s popularity in the UK is
due to its focus on British bands and the more underground sound, whilst Kerrang!
generally focuses on the more commercial bands. Another difference between the
magazines is Rock Sound publish monthly, whilst Kerrang! Magazine, publishes a new
issue every week.
"For those who like their music loud, extreme
and non-conformist"
Rock Sound magazine have a tagline which has been printed multiple times in past
issues.
Rock Sound magazine is very similar to other rock magazines as they are very informal
moreover, this magazine focuses more on the images than text which is small and
limited. Advertisements for tours, pictures and posters of bands are regular content for
Rock Sound magazine, which reinforces the image to text ratio that it has.
My magazine would benefit from Rock Sound LTD publishing it as they own the
magazine Rock Sound which has been highly successful in the UK for nearly fifteen
years. Whilst rising with its well known competitor Kerrang! magazine and staying true
to their posting statement about giving recognition to underground bands without
commercialising them.
The majority of Rock Sound readers are female, making up 59% of
the readership and the rest of the 41% being male. The magazine‟s
readership is made up of those most commonly in the age bracket
of 15-24. The median age of the readers is 21 years. 78% of these
readers use Rock Sound to discover new music and trends, with
them annually spending £210 million each year on music and gigs.
The twelve months from 01 January to 31 December 2012, there
was an average of 12,406 net circulation of each of the 13 issues in
that year.

ROLLING STONE MISSION STATEMENT
The Rolling Stone magazine was founded in San Francisco in 1967 and covers music, liberal
politics and popular culture. It was co-founded by Jann Wenner and published by him
through his publisher house Wenner Media. The style of the magazine including the house
style has mainly remained the same throughout its publication.
My magazine would benefit from Wenner Media publishing it because the publisher is
extremely successful and the Rolling Stone magazine is one of the most iconic magazines on
the market. It is so popular that it has been running for nearly fifty years. This clearly indicates
that Wenner Media is certainly has the experience and knowledge to publish my magazine.
Rolling Stone has a unique house style. This means
that the colouration and design is the same for the
magazine and website. It is a white background with
black lines. The masthead is in a red font known as
„Royal Acidbath‟ which is outlined once by white and
then black. The outlines give the masthead/logo a
distinctive look and very recognisable, it also allows
for the text to be placed onto many different colours
and still be visible.
"Rolling Stone is much more than a music magazine - it's about
everything that makes music matter, from the political to the
personal to the profound. With wit, originality and flair, Rolling
Stone covers everything that's important to the leading thinkers
among today's young adults.“
Matt Coyte - Editor-in-Chief
The majority of the readers are men which is 59.3% of the

the magazine‟s readers. The median age of the readers is 34.2 years.
