This document summarizes a project assessing social vulnerability to climate change among groups dependent on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Colorado. The project aims to characterize dependence on public lands across the state through spatial analysis and case studies of BLM field offices. Initial analysis found variation in livestock grazing dependence between field offices based on grazing intensity metrics. Recreation dependence was also assessed based on special recreation and event permits issued by each field office. Next steps include conducting case studies and refining the spatial analysis to better understand public lands dependence in a qualitative way.

Rapid degradation of peri-urban ecosystems is resulting in a loss of associated ecosystem services. Water provision, storm-and waste-water regulation, along with protection from natural disasters and erosion, are the impacted services that most acutely affect poor or vulnerable populations. The poor may be disproportionately impacted by loss of ecosystem services due to lack of political power around land use decision making and limited alternatives for livelihoods, housing, or basic services. Vulnerability extends to urban populations that depend on the ecosystem services provided by or flowing through peri-urban areas. Often, the loss of ecosystems is irreversible and the replacement of associated services is costly, if even possible.
In this presentation, the International Food Policy Research Institute, in partnership with University of Massachusetts Amherst, detailed the obstacles and opportunities in crowdsourced data for Agent-based Modeling.
Humanity is facing great challenges in the coming decades as global issues are becoming increasingly complex and interconnected. As information and knowledge across all these domains continue to grow, finding the best solutions to ensure a sustainable future will require new approaches. Collaboration across a large ecosystem will also be key: industry, policy makers, academia, research, developers and the interested public.
Deforestation is a major driver of many of these challenges, including:
-Climate change
-Hunger and lack of food security
-Rise in natural disasters and extreme weather
-Refugee crisis
-Rise in crime
-Spread of disease
-Increasing pollution
-Drought and lack of access to safe water
-Poverty
As a result, conservation of remaining forests and reforestation are key to addressing these challenges. Technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT) can help with these goals. They are uniquely adapted to tasks such as safe monitoring in remote areas, finding patterns and interconnections within macro datasets and providing local, personalized diagnosis and predictions that learn and improve over time.

GISCO Fall 2018: Colorado 811: Changes and Challenges – Brian CollisonGIS Colorado
On May 25, Governor Hickenlooper signed Senate Bill 18-167 into law. This bill included the creation of the Underground Damage Prevention Safety Commission, effective August 8, 2018. The ratification of this law has started transitioning tier two members of the Utility Notification Center of Colorado, or Colorado 811, into tier one members. Safety and accuracy are some of the most challenging issues damage prevention professionals face. While the law will improve communication between all parties involved once it’s implemented, damage prevention work will drastically change over the next two years of transition. Join Brian Collison as he gives an overview of the changes, how tier two members can ease their transition to tier one and how this will affect anyone who works within right of ways in the state of Colorado.

GISCO Fall 2018: Bike Network Equity: A GIS and Qualitative Analysis of Ameri...GIS Colorado
The equitable distribution of bike paths ensuring safe cycling are inconsistently planned and evaluated. For residents to fully utilize bikes, it is essential that bike networks equitably serve all urban populations. In the absence of impartial evaluation, the construction of biking infrastructure may continue to perpetuate cycles of disadvantage. By measuring the spatial equity of six urban biking networks using GIS (San Francisco, Chicago, Minneapolis, Madison, Boulder and College Station) and interviewing transportation planners, we demonstrate that equity can play a role in planning. We provide spatial and qualitative analyses revealing varying relationships between urban transport planning and the relative equity of bike networks in major cities.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
