First and foremost, we would like to thank our Social Psychology lecturer, Mr. Shankar
for his continuous guidance throughout the semester. We also get to understand the objective of
our assignment and the concepts within the chapters through him.
Next, we would like to thank our friends, Nur Aqilah, William Goh, Darren Loong and
Janice Lee who gave us support and cooperated really well in regards to the video shooting.
Last but not least, we would like to thank Darren Loong for directing the video and also

Introduction
In this assignment, we are required to create a short video clip that requires at least 5
different concepts that we have learnt throughout the semester in Social Psychology. We are also
required to write a report based on the short video and present our video during class. We are
divided into groups a group of four, which consists of Darren Loong, Janice Lee, Nur Aqilah,
and William Goh. After a short discussion and 2 meetings, we have decided to create a short film
named “The Misunderstanding”. This short film is about a guy who assumed that a girl is a
murderer of her best friend after she has been missing for 2 weeks. After much research and
analysis of our script, the concepts that are found in this short film are confirmation bias,
stonewalling, situational attribution, self-fulfilling prophecy, persuasion and attribution bias.
Lastly, we hope this video will allow students to relate about concepts in Social Psychology in
everyday life.

Procedure
All of us agreed to come out with a story each and post the story in our WhatsApp chat
group. After that, we will vote for the story we think it is the best to explain the different
concepts. Finally, we decided to choose Janice Lee’s story. Her story is about a guy assume that
his classmate has murdered someone and he thinks it is his classmate’s best friend, Yuna.
After deciding on Janice’s story, we discussed about the theories and concepts that can be
included in the video. After that, Janice wrote the script of the video and the next day, we started
filming. We decided to film the whole video within Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus
because all of our members have transportation issues and the only place we can meet is in
campus.
The day we started filming, Janice gave a short brief about her story and the roles that
each of them will play. Also, it took about an hour for the briefing and only started filming after
that. We took two days to film this video and it took about 3 hours per day to film this video.
Later, the video is edited by Darren Loong, using the video editing software, Final Cut
Pro X to upgrade the quality of the video and reduce noise and also adding in subtitles. Lastly,
we divided the report into different parts for each member to complete so it can be done as soon
as possible before the submission date.

A story is given by our members each and total there is 4 stories. We voted for the best story.
After that, Janice will create the script, speech, location, time and more. The following week, we
started filming. We also gathered all our data about the concepts that can be found in the story.
3rd December 2014
This afternoon, Janice gave a short brief about the story and also we read our own script. After
that, we started filming till 4pm.
4th December 2014
Filming from 12pm till 3pm. Darren Loong edited the video after 3pm.

Plot
Gwen (Janice Lee) and Yuna (Nur Aqilah) are best friends in Taylor's University. They
are currently semester 2 students of the Foundation in Natural and Built Environment
programme. They are also quite famous in their course. Gwen and Yuna would always be seen
together. They would eat together, study together and head to class together. Michael (William
Goh), who's best friend is Adam (Darren Loong) thinks that Gwen is a very beautiful girl and
concludes that her personality and attitude is also nice because of her looks. Adam on the other
hand, claims that Michael is making judgements too quickly.
On the same evening, Adam walks towards his car and sees Gwen carrying a black
rubbish bag. As Gwen heads to the rubbish dumpsite to dispose the rubbish, an object which
looks like a hand drops out from the rubbish bag. Adam is shocked about what he saw and he
claims that Gwen might have murdered someone. On the next day, Adam rushes to see Michael
and tells him about what he saw last night. Michael doesn't believe about what Adam said as he
already concluded that Gwen has a very outstanding attitude and is nice to everyone in the
course. Adam was frustrated with Michael's reaction and decides to prove to him by bringing
Michael to the rubbish dumpsite, in which they found nothing there. Michael is annoyed by
Adam's paranoia and warns him not to create stories again.
As days go by, Gwen seems to be alone every day in campus. Adam decides to follow
her actions closely for days and weeks. After two weeks of stalking Gwen's actions, Adam is
even more paranoid as Yuna has been absent since the night where he saw Gwen dragging the
rubbish bag. He persuades Michael again to believe him, which in return, Michael unfriends
Adam because he thinks that he is weird.
9. 9
On that same day, Adam decides to confront Gwen for the missing of Yuna. Gwen is
frustrated and angry about Adam's actions because he kept annoying her to make her admit that
she murdered Yuna. As Adam chases after Gwen, they both stumble upon Yuna and learn that
she travelled to Venice for 2 weeks for a vacation.

Concepts
1. Confirmation Bias
Michael believe that all beautiful girls have nice personality. Confirmation bias is shown
because Michael does not believe that Gwen has murdered someone because she is
beautiful and it contradicts the schema he made. Therefore, he ignores it.
2. Stonewalling
This is shown in scene 8. Michael decided not to be friends with Adam anymore. He
thinks that Adam is talking nonsense and it is not even making sense. Michael could not
stand with his words anymore.
3. Situational Attribution
Adam has situational attributions because he thinks that Yuna has been murdered but she
actually went on a vacation to Venice. Situational Attribution is assuming that the cause
of an action is due to external factors. Therefore, he went to confront Gwen because
Yuna went missing for 2 weeks.
4. Persuasion
Adam persuades Michael to believe in what he says. Adam asked Michael to trust what
he saw with his naked eyes – he saw Gwen dropped a hand out of the garbage bag when
he was on the way to his car.
5. Attribution bias
Attribution bias is we explain behaviours in terms of internal and dispositional factors.
Michael thinks that Gwen is a good girl because of her looks and her behaviour in class.
