Psalms 23
Ps 23
1 A Psalmof David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the
still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his
name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear
no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparesta table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou
anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surelygoodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I
will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
To have the LORD as your shepherd you must be a “sheep”.
Ps 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made
us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his
pasture.
Ps 78:52 But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided
them in the wilderness like a flock.
Isa 63:11 Then he rememberedthe days of old, Moses, and his
people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with
the shepherdof his flock? where is he that put his holy Spirit within
him?
Ezek 34:31 And ye my flock, the flock of my pasture, are men, and I
am your God, saith the Lord GOD.
John 10:26-28 26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my
sheep, as I said unto you.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish,
neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Acts 20:29 For I know this, that after my departingshall grievous
wolves enter in among you, not sparingthe flock.
Normally, sheep are a commodity used for wool and the slaughter house.
Ps 44:22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are
counted as sheep for the slaughter.
Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not
his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep
before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
Sheep follow someone.
Zech 11:17 Woe to the idol shepherdthat leaveth the flock! the
sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be
clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.
John 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth
before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
John 10:10-11 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill,
and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they
might have it more abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherdgiveth his life for the
sheep.
Ps 23
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the
still waters.
The shepherdknows what the sheep need, whether they do or not;
“maketh me to lie down”.
Luke 15:4 What man of you, havingan hundredsheep, if he lose one
of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and
go after that which is lost, until he find it?
“green pastures”the Pastor is the one who leads sheep to eat.
John 21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter,
Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto
him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed
my lambs.
John 21:16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of
Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest
that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
John 21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas,
lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third
time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all
things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my
sheep.
Ps 23
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
Your resting place is also your dinner table.
Rom 2:19-22 19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of
the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the
form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.
21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself?
thou that preachesta man should not steal, dost thou steal?
22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou
commit adultery? thou that abhorrestidols, dost thou commit
sacrilege?
Ps 23
2 …he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He is the leader for the life time of the sheep not just when they think they
need help.
Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholdinghim loved him, and said unto him,
One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and
give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come,
take up the cross, and follow me.
Matt 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell
that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in
heaven: and come and follow me.
Ps 23
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his
name's sake.
Only he can restore the soul.
1Pet 2:25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned
unto the Shepherdand Bishopof your souls.

of the dog.
Ps 22:30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accountedto the Lord for
a generation.
Ps 23
3 …he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
It is His leading that restores the soul. You can’t lead Him but, you can be lead and then
lead others.
Isa 40:11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the
lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently
lead those that are with young.
Luke 15:5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders,
rejoicing.
2Tim 2:24-26 24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be
gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
25 In meekness instructingthose that oppose themselves; if God
peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledgingof the
truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the
devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Ps 23
4 Yea, though I walkthrough the valleyof the shadow of death, I will fear
no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
The “valley of the shadow of death” is not new terrain to the Shepherd;
He’s been through it and will lead his sheep through.
Rev 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the
first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth.
Unto him that loved us, and washedus from our sins in his own
blood,
2Tim 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and
will preserve me unto his heavenlykingdom: to whom be glory for
ever and ever. Amen.

with the feelingof our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like
as we are, yet without sin.

fellowshipone with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son
cleanseth us from all sin.
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith,
Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Ps 23
4 …thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

calledhis name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of
the LORD.

prophesiedof these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten
thousands of his saints,
15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are
ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have
ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly
sinners have spoken against him.
Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as
yet, moved with fear, preparedan ark to the saving of his house; by
the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the

Isa 9:4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of
his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
Zech 11:10 And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder,
that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the
people.

preoccupiedby the enemies to sit at the table.
Ps 116:13 I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of
the LORD.
1Cor 10:16 The cup of blessingwhich we bless, is it not the
communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it
not the communion of the body of Christ?

heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

purposed in ChristJesus our Lord:
12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the
faith of him.
