The passage describes a story told by Jesus about a rich man who lived lavishly while a poor man named Lazarus suffered outside his gate. When they died, Lazarus went to heaven to be comforted by Abraham, while the rich man went to hell where he was in torment. The rich man begged Abraham to send Lazarus to bring him water to cool his tongue, but Abraham refused, pointing out that in life the rich man had his pleasures while Lazarus suffered. The rich man then asked Abraham to send Lazarus to warn his five brothers, but Abraham said they have Moses and the prophets and will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.

III. The Problem with Pride 2Kgs 5:11-14

Conclusion:
This is the third lesson in a series about Jesus and the guidance He has given us. The first lesson is the Faithful Witness which is Jesus. He is the Creator and He came here in the flesh to save us. As the faithful witness He went through everything in the flesh that we experience, yet did not sin. He has provided in His New Testament what was witnessed by Him and we can depend upon what He says. The second lesson is Being Faithful Unto Death. Jesus provided all of the guidance His disciples need to be faithful to Him until they die. This third lesson looks at what Jesus has provided to us about what happens when we die, where we go, and the fact that we continue to live even though our body is in the grave. Jesus being the Creator and the faithful witness can be depended upon by every human being to have provided reliable information on life after death,

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

3. v19 "There was a rich man who was
dressed in purple and fine linen and
lived in luxury every day.
v20 At his gate was laid a beggar named
Lazarus, covered with sores
v21 and longing to eat what fell from the
rich man's table. Even the dogs came
and licked his sores.
4. v22 "The time came when the beggar died
and the angels carried him to Abraham's
side. The rich man also died and was
buried.
v23 In hell,[3] where he was in torment, he
looked up and saw Abraham far away, with
Lazarus by his side.
v24 So he called to him, 'Father
Abraham, have pity on me and send
Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water
and cool my tongue, because I am in
agony in this fire.'
5. v25 "But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember
that in your lifetime you received your
good things, while Lazarus received bad
things, but now he is comforted here and
you are in agony.
v26 And besides all this, between us and
you a great chasm has been fixed, so that
those who want to go from here to you
cannot, nor can anyone cross over from
there to us.‘
6. v27 "He answered, 'Then I beg you,
father, send Lazarus to my father's
house,
v28 for I have five brothers. Let him
warn them, so that they will not also
come to this place of torment.‘
v29 "Abraham replied, 'They have Moses
and the Prophets; let them listen to
them.'
7. v30 “'No, father Abraham,' he said,
'but if someone from the dead goes
to them, they will repent.‘
v31 "He said to him, 'If they do not
listen to Moses and the Prophets,
they will not be convinced even if
someone rises from the dead.' "
8. All
of us have love ones in hell who
prayed for us not to go there
We
are the modern day Moses and
prophets to warn people of hell
Only
people who know hell well can
and will warn people effectively
We
must warn all our love ones this
Nov 1 and all people weekly
9. v27 "He answered, 'Then I beg you,
father, send Lazarus to my father's
house,
v28 for I have five brothers. Let him
warn them, so that they will not also
come to this place of torment.‘
v29 "Abraham replied, 'They have Moses

10. v30 “'No, father Abraham,' he said,
'but if someone from the dead goes
to them, they will repent.‘
v31 "He said to him, 'If they do not
listen to Moses and the Prophets,
they will not be convinced even if
someone rises from the dead.' "
11. Matthew 25:46
"Then they will go away to
eternal punishment, but the
righteous to eternal life."
13. Luke 16:23-24
v.23 In hell,[3] where he was in
torment, he looked up and saw
Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his
side.
v.24 So he called to him, 'Father
Abraham, have pity on me and send
Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in
water and cool my tongue, because I
am in agony in this fire.'
14. Torment because there is no
peace, joy and love in hell
1John 4:8
Whoever does not love does not
know God, because God is love.
15. Romans 14:17
For the kingdom of God is not a
matter of eating and drinking, but
of righteousness, peace and joy in
the Holy Spirit,
16. Luke 16:24-25
v.24 So he called to him, 'Father Abraham,
have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip
the tip of his finger in water and cool my
tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.‘
v.25 "But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember
that in your lifetime you received your good
things, while Lazarus received bad things,
but now he is comforted here and you are
in agony.
17. Luke 16:24
So he called to him, 'Father
Abraham, have pity on me and send
Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in
water and cool my tongue, because I am
in agony in this fire.'
18. Revelations 20:14-15
v.14
Then death and Hades were
thrown into the lake of fire. The lake
of fire is the second death.
v.15
If anyone's name was not
found written in the book of life, he
was thrown into the lake of fire.
19. Luke 16:24
So he called to him, 'Father
Abraham, have pity on me and send
Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger
in water and cool my
tongue, because I am in agony in
this fire.'
21. Luke 16:24-25

that in your lifetime you received your
good things, while Lazarus received bad
things, but now he is comforted here and
you are in agony.
22. Luke 16:26
And besides all this, between us and
you a great chasm has been
fixed, so that those who want to go
from here to you cannot, nor can
anyone cross over from there to us.'
23. Revelations 20:10
And the devil, who deceived them,
was thrown into the lake of burning
sulfur, where the beast and the false
prophet had been thrown. They will
be tormented day and night for ever
and ever.
27. John 3:17-18
v.17 For God did not send his Son into
the world to condemn the world, but
to save the world through him.
v.18 Whoever believes in him is not
condemned, but whoever does not
believe stands condemned already
because he has not believed in the
name of God's one and only Son.[7]
28. Ephesians 2:8-9
v.8 For it is by grace you have been
saved, through faith--and this not
from yourselves, it is the gift of
God-v.9 not by works, so that no one can
boast.
29. Titus 3:5-7
v.5 he saved us, not because of righteous
things we had done, but because of his
mercy. He saved us through the washing of
rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
v.6 whom he poured out on us generously
through Jesus Christ our Savior,
v.7 so that, having been justified by his
grace, we might become heirs having the
hope of eternal life.
30.
31. 1Timothy 2:3-6
v.3 This is good, and pleases God our
Saviour,
v.4 who wants all men to be saved and to
come to a knowledge of the truth.
v.5 For there is one God and one mediator
between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
v.6 who gave himself as a ransom for all
men--the testimony given in its proper time.
32. RENOUNCE
SIN IN YOUR LIFE
2Corinthians 7:10
Godly sorrow brings repentance that
leads to salvation and leaves no regret,
but worldly sorrow brings death.
Matthew 4:17
From that time on Jesus began to
preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of
heaven is near."
33. BELIEVE
THAT HIS SHED BLOOD IS
THE FORGIVENESS OF YOUR SIN
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he
gave his one and only Son,[6] that
whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life.
34. Acts 4:12
Salvation is found in no one else, for
there is no other name under heaven
given to men by which we must be
saved."
35. Hebrews 9:14
How much more, then, will the blood
of Christ, who through the eternal
Spirit offered himself unblemished to
God, cleanse our consciences from
acts that lead to death,[3] so that we
may serve the living God!
36. Hebrews 9:22
In fact, the law requires that nearly
everything be cleansed with blood,
and without the shedding of blood
there is no forgiveness.
37. Revelation 3:20
Here I am! I stand at the door and
knock. If anyone hears my voice and
opens the door, I will come in and eat
with him, and he with me.
38. Romans 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is
Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised
him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:10
For it is with your heart that you believe and are
justified, and it is with your mouth that you
confess and are saved.
