I. Objectives:
 a. Discuss the protective factors in
substance use, misuse and abuse;
 b. Create a presentation showing the
protective factors discussed;
 c. Discuss the value of self-worth.
Activity 1: “ Let’s Do it”
 Mechanics
a. The class will be divided into 4 groups;
b. Each group is given 3 protective factors that they will discussed in
front ofthe class guided by questions given by the teacher;
(Group 1) Personal – a. Self-control behavior
b. Good reasoning skills
(Group 2) Family – a. Positive Family relationship
b. Clear and Consistent family rules
(Group 3) Peers and friends – a. Association with peers and friends who do
not use gateway drugs
b. Reliance on friends for emotional support
(Group 4) Community – a. Active and positive community programs,
projects and activities for thyouth
b. Strong community relationships

c. Each group is given materials to be used in the
activity;
d. Each group should present 30-second yell;
e. Each group is given 5 minutes to accomplish
the task.

 Group 3 – a. How important is choosing the right person to be your friends?
b. In what way do peers and friends able to prevent in using dangerous substances?
c. What do you think will happen if you don’t choose your friends ?
Group 4 – a. How does active and positive community programs, projects and activities for the youth can
prevent people from abusing drugs?
b. In what way do strong community relationships help in keeping its people away from the use of
dangerous drugs?

 b. Each group shall do the following assigned task which should be relevant
to the topic assigned to the group in activity no. 1;

Group 4- Poster Making
c. Each group is given 10 minutes to accomplish the assigned tasked.
 d. Each group is graded according to the following criteria;
creativity- 10 points
relevance- 10 points
cooperation- 10 point
