2. Prospects of Jute cultivation
A. Economic prospects :
Development of cheap clothing by mixing with wool.
Establishment of curtains, carpets and furnishing fabric industries using
jute as raw material.
Manufacture of re-usable bags, ropes, twins, sacks, etc.
Development of geotextiles, technical textiles and textile composites.
Development of clothes, mats, sacks, etc. with low thermal
conductivity.
Use in blended yarns, furniture products, etc.
Manufacture of coarse paper and gunpowder charcoal.
3. B. Environmental prospects :
Maintenance of ecological balance by providing much needed
oxygen to the atmosphere .
Development of bio-degradable products such as mats, ropes,
twines, carpet, sacks, bags, etc.
Improvement of soil fertility for next crop.
4. C. Increasing demand :
Due to rapid urbanization and globalization, there is
increasing demand for jute and jute products. It is used in
mats, ropes, decorative cloths, twines, storage bags, etc.
5. D. Climate and geographic suitability :
Eastern Terai is best suited for Jute cultivation and
productions as 25-30°C is best for it's growth and
development.
6. E. Availability of human resources and
land resources :
Abundant amount of labor force is available in
Nepal as many youths are still searching for
employment opportunity. And in addition to this,
fertile land which are best suited for jute cultivation
are available in abundant amount.
7. F. Export potential :
Jute and jute products have huge export
potential . Nepal is one of the top 10 jute
producers countries in the world.
8. Constraints of Jute cultivation
Regardless of huge scope of Jute cultivation, it
have many limitations. Some major constraints in jute
cultivation are listed below;
9. Lack of investment due to desperate economic
conditions of both nation and farmers .
Lack of technical material and mechanization.
Untimely supply of inputs such as quality seeds,
fertilizers, etc.

cultivation sector.
Involvement of deprived and
uneducated Nepalese farmers in
jute cultivation sector.
11. Limited research activities on Jute crop.
Less emphasized by government on jute
crops .
Lack of clear cut policy of government.
12. Co-ordination gap among teaching,
research and extension.
Involvement of few number of farmers
towards Jute cultivation .
13. Insect pests and diseases infestation.
Poor market facilities.
Tedious and lengthy job in harvesting
process of Jute such as retting, stripping,
washing, drying, bailing and packing .
