This study assessed the management and prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Kanpur, India, revealing a GDM prevalence of 13.4%, higher in urban (16%) than rural areas (9.8%). It showed that public health facilities were more effective in diagnosing GDM compared to community camps (86% vs 14% diagnosis rate), although there was low interest in follow-up care. The findings emphasize the need for government prioritization of public health systems in GDM management to improve maternal and infant health outcomes.
