Personal Position I feel that my decision do graduate school was one of the first
decisions that was guided by prayer. The majority of my decisions since graduating
from Longwood University have been based on circumstances. When I graduated

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by an
individual experiencing intrusive thoughts, images, or worries in addition to
repetitive, non functional behaviours that emerge in an effort to suppress anxiety (i.e.

According to Durkheim, Catholic society has normal levels of integration while
Protestant society has lower levels (1951, pp.324 325). Durkheim defines religion as a

always hear about a shooting. Whether it was a shooting in a small neighborhood of
New Jersey or the mass shooting in Las Vegas, all of them would bring the same
question to my mind: are guns really protecting people? Many people in this country
believe that they have the right to own a gunto protect themselves and their loved
ones, and I understand where they are coming from because I d want to make sure
my family is safe too. So I decided to take a good look at the situation. I needed to
understand what laws governed the sale of firearms, their timeline and to whom they
could be sold to in order for me to have a better perspective on who s to blame: the
machine or the human mind?
Guns became available for purchase to the common civilian after the Bill of
Rights came into existence. The Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights, passed
by the Congress on September 25, 1789, states that people of this country have the
right to own arms and that this right cannot be infringed by anyone. According to
an interpretation of the Second Amendment, Many in the Founding generation
believed that governments are prone to use soldiers to oppress the people (Lund),
which suggests that the one of the reasons behind forming a provision for people
to bear arms was to safeguard the people if there was ever a chance of federal
oppression on them, a lesson America learned with their encounter with the English
in the past. To support this, in 1871, The National Rifle Association was formed
with the objective to help improve the American civilians marksmanship in
preparation for war (National Rifle Association). From the very beginning, guns
were meant to be a form of protection, whether it was from the fear of a federal
oppression or fear of a revolution. In this context I see guns as a means to surviving,
something that people of that past would ve used only under dire consequences. But
some well known facts would suggest otherwise.
I would say that the gun violence had already begun. Take for example the biggest
shock to the country in 1865, when the 16th President of the United States of
America, Abraham Lincoln, was shot in the head and
