How Does Oscar Wilde Use Humor
In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest there are multiple types of humor. Oscar
Wilde was known for being quite humorous and he shows this throughout the story. This story
has grown to be very popular and has been made into countless stage productions and even three
films. The Importance of being Earnest can thank its humor and hysterical tone for making it
into the widely known and loved play that it is today. One type of humor that is found in The
Importance of Being Earnest is inversion humor. Inversion humor is when someone goes
against logical reasoning and says expressions that make little to no sense at all. In inversion
humor, the end of the phrase being said is typically the opposite of what you expect to be said,
and is very unpredictable. One of many instances where this type of humor is found is when
Cecily says, I don t like novels that end happily. They depress me so much (Wilde, Act II P.2311).
As you can see she begins with saying she does not like happy endings and then contradicts the
meaning of the word happy and says that they depress her. There are numerous other instances
where inversion humor is used and it adds greatly to the tone of the story.... Show more content on

A satire is typically a writing style that focuses on criticizing an individual, social class, or a
society by using humor or a hyperbole. Satires are used to ridicule shortcomings and do it in a
funny or comical manner. Lady Bracknell is an excellent example of satirical humor. When she
is contemplating whether not she approves of Earnest she points out all of his flaws and then
gives a funny, unexpected response. She criticizes him for living on the wrong side of the street
that has houses that are not quite as nice as the other sides. Algernon is also a great example of a
satire. He is known as self centered and will blame anyone except himself when problems arise

How Does Merlin Influence Arthur s Life
The Hollow Hills by Mary Stewart is a new twist on the classic King Arthur tale with the
spotlight on protecting Arthur for the sake of the kingdom s destiny. Over the course of the
book many important men, or lack thereof, have big influences on Arthur s life and how he will
be as a leader or family member in the future. A big influence on Arthur in this story is Merlin.
Whether Arthur realizes it or not, Merlin has really set the course of his life. Merlin helped place
Arthur and set up who would be around him, so not only did he directly influence Arthur when
they finally met, he also picked good people who he knew would affect Arthur in a positive way.

and honest. All of these traits can and will influence Arthur in a positive way. ...Ralf was soon
active again, insistent that he no longer needed doctoring. (Stewart 45), Ralf was never down for
long and some of this is shown in Arthur. When Cador finds Merlin on the Isle of Glass, Arthur s
immediate reaction is to threaten Cador even with an army opposing him. This could be linked to
how Ralf is protective of who he loves. Uther sending Arthur away obviously influenced Arthur s
life in a major way, even if Arthur did not realize it at the time. Later, when Arthur had learned
what had happened, he was definitely confused, but soon calmed down and understood why.
Seeing that his father made such a large decision and stuck with it could have influenced how he

Corruption Of Racism
Smyth explains that if a group is oppressed, then it is only a matter of time before they revolt and
turn violent. As they feel that there is no other way to get noticed, as is often the case (p.30).
When George Holliday managed to capture film of the police brutality against Rodney King, it
seemed like a godsend. He sent the tapes to various news organizations who broadcasted them on
television. If you send a complaint to the police telling them that they are doing wrong, they are
going to say that they are not, and keep their power. By broadcasting the LAPD s wrongdoings on
national television, George Holliday exposed the corrupt and broken system for what it was.
Finally it seemed there would be justice for those who were supposed to enforce ... Show more

to the fact that they believed themselves to be in hostile territory . The one black candidate to

Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech By Ronald Reagan
Two hundred and nine thousand. That is the number of lives that were nobly given to save the
many during the invasion of Normandy (D day and the Battle of Normandy). The courageous men
and women fought continuously for days on end, climbing the jagged cliffs of Normandy, France.
Under rifle fire from gun nests from above, the allied troops were able to take control of the
coastline, but not without great sacrifice. The speech given by Ronald Reaganwas made to
commemorate those who fearlessly fought for our country and the many thousands that gave their
lives during those hard days of war. His speech had a clear message, to honor and remember those
who gave and risked their lives during the invasion of Normandy.

Reagan spoke with passion and sorrow. But he showed an appreciation and respect for those
who fought. He uses the word we very often, which unites the people and shows union. In his
speech he uses the word we 19 times to show the bond between us as a people, and as a nation.
He uses rhetorical questions asking why they served and fought till their last breath. You were
young the day you took these cliffs; some of you were hardly more than boys, with the deepest
joys of life before you. Yet, you risked everything here. Why? Why did you do it? What impelled
you to put aside the instinct for self preservation and risk your lives to take these cliffs? What
inspired all the men of the armies that met here? We look at you, and somehow we know the
answer. It was faith and belief; it was loyalty and love. (Reagan). He answers his questions with
love and loyalty for their families and their country. Reagan uses this in his speech to make the
audience think deeply about why the men did what they did and

Gentrification Of The West Philadelphia
Gentrification in North Philadelphia
Gentrification began to garner a great deal of attention from scholars, politicians, and the media
soon after the phenomenon was first identified by Ruth Glass in the 1964 (Glass, 1964). Politicians
and academics have debated[[delete,] what constitutes gentrification, whether gentrification is a
legitimate means of improving the economy of metropolitan neighborhoods, or if the influx of
wealthier residents into a low income neighborhood is more akin to an invasion,, an invasion
which could lead to conflict along class and racial/ethnic lines as once public spaces are
appropriated by corporate interests. I intend to conduct a study of gentrification in the Northern
Philadelphia area, but I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How do local residents feel about the socioeconomic changes occurring in the Cecil B. Moore
neighborhood (or alternatively East Kensington) and how have these changes affected their lives?
Are changing rent and property rates linked to the expansion of Temple s campus? (alternatively:
Are the changing rent and property rates in East Kensington linked to realtors and development

Theory
Soon after the term gentrification was conceived, scholars began to develop and debate its
theoretical foundation. Neil Smith and David Ley engaged in one of the more important theoretical
debates about the causal factors of gentrification. Neil Smith s rent gap theory frames gentrification
in economic terms. Essentially the rent gap theory is based on the classic economic law of supply
and demand (Smith, 1979). According to Smith when there is a disparity between income collected
from rent and the potential achievable rental income, investors will seek to renovate and increase
rent (Smith, 1979). Ley rejects Smith s claim that gentrification is caused only by the changing
housing market and presented his own theory which places societal needs as the driving force

Lastly, humans are posing a threat not only to the existence of different kinds of plants and

Substance Dualism Research Paper
Tomasz Nowakowski
Intro to Philosophy
Dr. Wall
2/17/2015
The Mind There are three main theories that explains the nature of the human mind; substance
dualism, the identity theory and functionalism. All of these theories deal with the mind, but are
separated by how each relates to the body. In this paper I will be distinguishing the main strengths
and weaknesses within these theories and be defending which one I feel to be the best theory.
One of the three main theories is substance dualism. Substance dualism deals with how the mind
and body are different substances with an independent existence. Physical things are prolonged in
space and do not have any thought, but as for mental things they have their thought as their nature,
but have no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identity theory focuses more on the family views on relationships between the mind and body. This
theory states that the mind and body don t necessary need to be connected, but can be. It also states
that if the chemical state of the brain is doing something, then the mind is doing something in
relationship to it. In other words the mind is the exact same as the brain and mental and brain
events are identical.
There are two types of Identity theory; type identity theory and token identity theory. These theories
make a distinction between general and particular identities . Type identity theory focuses on how
the mental state will always be identical to the brain state. As for token identity, this part of the
theory focuses on how there are separate differences in human and animal brains and mental states
are different.
There are many strengths for the Identity Theory compared to the first theory we looked at. Its a
much more black and white theory, it being more simple makes it easier for more people to
understand. It has less assumptions and it only focusing on the mind part of it, instead of the
physical side of it makes it fair more simple. ALong with making it more simple, it also takes out
the mind and body insertion confusion, making it a preferable theories to others. But the largest
strength of the identity theory would have to be the explanation on the reason behind the changes
in the brain caused by injury, illness, or sickness

Essays On Siddhartha
Daniel Gutierrez Honors English 4 Mr. Rodriguez 08/30/17 Siddhartha That was how everyone
loved Siddhartha. He delighted and made everybody happy. But Siddhartha was not happy.
(Page 6) This is a great example of perception vs. reality as everyone makes it seem that one
person might be happy, but inside they can be at the complete opposite state. This causes him to
have the desire for more wisdom than what he has been taught. He wanted to find out what was
really important and wanted to feel no emotion in regards to what people think of him. What is
concentration? What is the ability to leave one s body? What is fasting? What is retention of
breath? It is a flight from the self, it is a brief escape from the torment of being I , it is a brief
numbing of the mind to counter pain and the senselessness of life. (Page 9) Siddhartha is saying.
that the practices of the samana are just a way of leaving life and its problems temporarily by
making their bodies undergo these hardships. They eventually become numb with the pain and
by doing so, the samana are able to leave their worries of the real world temporarily. Yes, he
thought breather deeply, I will no longer try to escape from Siddhartha. I will learn from myself,
be my own pupil; I will learn from myself the secret of Siddhartha. (Page 32) Here Siddhartha is
demonstrating that he is the only one that matters when it comes to thoughts of who he is, and
only his opinion of himself matters. Acceptance and the ability to look into himself will lead to
that road of happiness. Also, to be minimalistic as to if there is nothing to be needed then it is
not. This is something many people should take into consideration as to stay away from being
materialistic. He looked around him as if seeing the world for the first time. The world was
beautiful, strange, and mysterious. (page 39) Siddhartha Govinda left to join the Samanas to set
themselves free for enlightenment. The Samanas put out the idea that you must eliminate the self
so one can achieve spiritual fulfillment one day. Now he, too, felt belatedly for once in his life
that strongest and strangest of passions; he suffered from it, suffered pitifully, and yet he was
blessed, and yet he was in

Unintended Consequences In The Bible And The Tower Of Babel
The Old Testament depicts sin and unintended consequences with stories, like The Tower of Bible
and the Golden Calf. Neither story illustrates direct sin or disobedience, however, they do show
God s way of punishment for sin and disobedience, with a touch of irony. The Old Testament
utilizes these stories as teachings that can be seen as rise and fall, or sin before punishment
through the law of unintended consequences. The Tower of Babel, a story in Genesis 11, is
centered on a community that want to become more unified and create a good name for
themselves. The people in the community were very smart and did not face many obstacles, and
since they felt unmatched they want to create something that would set them apart from all other
men. Their scheme to accomplish this goal was to erect a tower that reached heights like no other

Life Of Pi Science Vs Religion Essay
One of the largest impacting controversies today is Science vs Religion. A controversy that is
outdated back to the 14th century, an era when society started questioning, their religions and
started to grasp reality. The two major themes in Life of Pi by, Yann Martle are Science and
Religion. In Life of Pi, the author uses Pi (Piscine Molitor Patel) the Protagonist to express that
society needs both scienceand religionequally. Throughout Pi s life before being trapped at sea, Pi
displays education, beliefs, and survival. In the book, most of the animals mentioned are used as
metaphors even the earliest ones starting from the three toed sloth.

sloth because its demeanor calm, quiet and introspective did something to soothe my shattered self.

Pi does casually incorporate that he follows or accepts religion and science. When he is talking

To Pi religion and science are both important to learn and get educated on whether you believe in
religion or science. Life of Pi has many beliefs throughout the whole novel, how Pi believes in
Islam, Christianity, and Hinduism. But he also accepts Mr. Kumar even after the fact that Mr.

Integrating Burns And Infection Control
Integrating Burns and Infection Control
Abstract:
An understanding of the structure of the integumentary system will assist in understanding how
burn injuries affect the entire human body. The skin preforms anatomical and physiological
functions which are essential to life. Damage to this system has the potential to cause irreversible
chain reactions and wide spread systemic collapse that can lead to death. DermNet NZ (2006)
Introduction:
Burns are an everyday occurrence in the New Zealand context. There is a considerable amount of
documentation outlining the causes and the effects on New Zealand society. This documentation
highlights a concern that children number highly in the statistics. What follows is a brief outline of
the incidence of burns in New Zealand and the pathological effects of burns on the human body in
general, followed by how attending emergency crew would deal with a burn victim.
______________________________________________________________________
The incidence pattern of burn injuries in the NZ context is presented in the Accident
Compensation Committees report of 2006 titled, Management of Burns and Scalds in Primary
Care. It states burn related accidents are primarily a result of accidents within the home. Of those
incidents children under the age of five are at the highest risk. A child of Maori ethnicity has an
increased risk especially if they are under five years. On average about 475 children under 15 years
are admitted to hospital every

The Effect of Distributed Generation on Power Quality of Iraqi power System Networks.
Abstract: The primary motivation behind this paper is to examine the essential comprehension of
power quality in connection to the distributed generation. Because of extensive cover between two
innovations, aggravations influencing the power quality, which are principally caused by the
expansion of Distributed Generation (DG) on the existing power system network. Infusion of the
DG into an electric power grid can influence the voltage quality. Distributed generation of various
voltage levels when associated with the power system network could impact the voltage regulation,
sustained interruptions, harmonics, sags, swells, and so on. All the data given here are gathered
from various references by remembering the understudies at the starting level of the concerned

The Journey By Mary Oliver
How do authors generate ideas when writing? Many authors shape their works by reflecting on
occurrences in their lives. While some utilize positive occurrences, more often than not, poets
incorporate unpleasant experiences in their compositions. Mary Oliver exhibits this technique by
incorporating her tough childhood into her poetry. ...with words, I could build a world I could live
in. I had a very dysfunctional family, and a very hard childhood. So I made a world out of words.

The Journey is one long stanza with no clear rhyme pattern, and the lengths of the lines vary, thus
creating a dramatic effect. Oliver integrates both short and long lines in this poem, which again
reflects adversities in life. Oliver s word choice is intentional. She incorporates repetition in her
poetry, especially in The Journey, to emphasize the contrast in her thoughts. The word though is
repeated four times at the beginning of the poem, though the voices around you/ kept shouting
/their bad advice , though the whole house/ began to tremble , though the wind pried/with its stiff
fingers , and though their melancholy/was terrible ( The Journey 3 7, 14 15, 17 18). The word

determined replaces the word though. Oliver repeats this word two times, determined to do/the

Family History Reflection
Reflection of My Family History
What can I say about my family? Honestly, hardly know jack shit about my family s history. As
of now, I know that both my Biological parents were born in Puerto Rico. In addition, please be
mindful that the man who is supposedly is my biological father; I did not have a chance to meet

been for me calling my Titi Carmen (Aunty Carmen) in Puerto Rico. Before I go too deep into my
family s history, I think it would be best for you guys to get a little bit of my background, my first
family, the streets of New York City.
For starters, I was born and raised in the most violent poverty stricken section of New York City,
The South Bronx. I managed to survive two epidemics, (the crack, and the aids epidemic). I was
born in the early seventies. The Bronx to me looked like a fucking warzone, a vast wasteland,
where it was not uncommon to see the rats roam free amongst the debris of the streets of New
York City; along with the huge water bugs (Cucarachas Grandes), it is what we Ricans in the
hood use to call them. These big ass roaches were disgusting; these motherfuckers had wings on
them too. So them suckers could fly and shit. I cringe as I writing this shit thinking about them

Case Study Of Guna Fibress
Background
Guna Fibres, Ltd is a textile manufacturing company founded in 1972 and situated at Guna, India.
Ms Surabhi Kumar is the managing director and principal owner while Mr Malik is the
bookkeeper. This company utilizes the technology and domestic raw materials to expand its
franchises. It supplies fibre yarns used to weave colourful cloth for saris, a traditional wear of
Indian women. Guna Fibres usually utilized a line of credit from All India Bank Trust to finance its
business during its peak sale season which is usually on summer.
The Problem
The main problem of the company is that it couldn t liquidate a seasonal working capital loan for
the requisite 30 days each year. It reflects the company doesn t have sufficient cash and they
need more loan but the bank is reluctant to give any unless the company can give a reliable
financial plan to show they can pay off their loan by the end of 2012. So, Mr Malik came up with
a financial forecast for the month to month operation to gain the bank s trust. Sadly, the forecast

The Story Of My Life
Mom, Leya s gonna be over any second to pick me up for school. I figured I d go ahead and tell you
bye since you don t look like you re coming down anytime soon. I plucked a sloppy kiss on her
cheek as she gave me an awkward half hug while shuffling through some more papers on her desk
in a nonplussed manner.
Sorry, Babe. Have a good day at school. Oh, before you leave! I dreadfully turned back to face her
in the doorway, aware that I now had her full attention for a reason I could tell that I wasn t going
to like. This Charlie kid... he seems pleasant enough. Are you two... more than just friends, by
chance?

This caused me to snap my head back with my mouth completely agape as I took in the same
stupid smile on his face. How dare you?! Just... wait out here! UGH! He had me flustered, and
he knew it; I could tell by the cackle that next rose from the depths of his throat. I proceeded to
change into the only clean clothes I appeared to have left: an off the shoulder, mid sleeve cream
blouse that Eric s ex girlfriend had gotten me for my birthday (it was one of his longest
relationships, and she was one committed gal) and a pair of blue jean shorts that Leya had left at
my place. It was just my luck that I had to wear the most uncomfortable thing I owned the day
Charlie unexpectedly decided to show up.
Mal? That you? Is something the matter? my mother called from the farthest reaches of her study.
Nothing, Ma! Just forgot my textbook! I yelled back.
All right! Be careful next time! We can t afford anything that s going to hinder you from getting a

Course, Mom! I then slipped quietly out the door and cleaned up the yogurt with the paper towels I

October Sky Themes
October sky assignment A lil bit about the film: October sky is a movie based around a young
man called Homer Hickam and his love for rocketry during the space race between the USSR
and the USA that lasted from 1955 to 1975. Homer Hickam lives in a small town named
Coalwood in West Virginia when the Soviet Union launches the first satellite (Sputnik 1) into
space in 1957. This fascinates Homer and he falls in love with the idea of building rockets. As
he investigates rockets more, a few things happen: He blows up his mum s fence with one of his
first prototypes, forms the amateur rocket agency Big Creek missile agency, has a fight with his
dad and wins the science fair. The movie has many themes but the main ones were: Being
persistent and how you can achieve your goals if you keep at them despite being discouraged and
parental love and acceptance.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Homer s mum loves him very much and supports him. She pushes him to learn more about
rocketry and pursuing his dreams of working at NASA. But that can be hard when his dad isn t
interested in rockets and the only thing he cares about is the coal mine. Homer s dad doesn t
care about what Homer does and wants him to take over the coal mine which is bound to die out
along with the town. Even when Homer shows great potential and interest in rocket science.
Homer s dad is more interested and invested in his brother s life because he is a star football
player. It is even said in the film that Homer s dad always goes to his brothers football games but
whenever homer invites him to launch a rocket he avoids it by saying that he s working (Which is
obviously a lie). Main film techniques used in the

The Science Of Space Probes
Space probes are our doorway to the rest of our solar system, allowing us to find new information
about our universe. Space probes travel to other planets, moons, comets, and any other body in
space. Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are also traveling outside of our solar system in order to further
explore. As the space probes travel, and once they reach their destination, they constantly measure
the environment around them with extremely interesting scientific instruments. Many space probes
have been launched by NASA, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and each
one has different equipment based on what is intended to be studied. Five extremely interesting

The Planetary Radio Astronomy (PRA) listens to radio signals produced by the sun and planets,
while the Plasma Wave Investigation (PWS) essentially works like the PRA, but only listens for
audio frequencies and frequencies slightly above audible. The last instrument is IRIS (Infrared

thermometer, measuring the heat objects emit, as well as, determining when certain elements or
compounds are in an atmosphere or surface and using a separate radiometer to measure the amount
of sunlight reflected by a body. All of these scientific instruments helped the voyagers study the
outer planets, and will continue to help scientists learn about interstellar space.

Environmental Conservation Of The World War II
Environmental conservation has made major advancements throughout history. While its focus
during the 1940s was very limited due to World War II, the effects of the war and industrialization
led to the environmental deterioration and many significant events that increased the public s
attention on pollution. While many minor policies were passed as a way to appease the people, the
major shift for environmentalismwas during the 1960s after many pieces of writing were published
that exposed the harmful effects of pollutionand toxins that were contaminating the earth. The
public s outrage toward the government s lack of involvement led to major legislations to be passed
and a noticeable shift in importance to the government. While environmental policies were
generally weak and unable to be consistently enforced from 1940 2000, a series of focused
legislative acts led to a change in the standardization of working conditions through safety and
health regulations and accountability of nationally funded programs on conservation of the
environment.
One change that occurred in regards to environmental policies in the United States in the past 80
years was the creation of the National Environmental Policy Act which required increased
government regulation and involvement in their impact on the environment, and chapter 27 of the
North American Free Trade Agreement. The 1960s was an important era for the environment

Recruitment And Selection Methods Used By Ohio Bath...
Recruitment and Selection The recruitment and selection methods used by organizations can make
the difference in attracting highly talented employees. Attracting skilled candidates requires
employers to use several techniques, including advertising job openings, establishing an employer
brand, and actively pursuing desirable candidates. In addition, the company needs to offer
potential employees an incentive to work for the company. Attractive compensation and benefits
attract highly skilled candidates. However, monetary rewards are not always the answer.
Companies can also appeal to talented candidates by offering employees work life flexibility and
career advancement opportunity. One recruitment method that Ohio Bath Solutions uses to recruit
talented employees is social networking. Social networking is growing in attractiveness as a
recruiting method. It is an effective method to seek out both young and experienced business
professionals. Greg Wright (2015) contends that by using social networking, [organizations] can
easily tell job seekers why [their] company is a great place to work or why [its] benefits or office
locations are better than those of competitors (para. 4). One social networking site that is a great
resource for recruiting is Linkedin. Linkedin is a site for business professionals. It enables its users

A Raisin The Sun And Willy Loman Compare And Contrast Essay
The striving for being rich and have a wealthy life has always been present in the American
society. Often living in a capitalistic society leads people to become greedy, and as a result many
become too materialistic. This may happen because of the challenge to pursue the American
dream where most of Americans are trying to fulfill it. Unfortunately, for most of people it is very
difficult to acquire this high status and to secure a spot in the upper class society. Arthur Miller s,
Death of a Salesman, and Lorraine Hansberry s, A Raisin the Sun, are two plays that reveal two
main characters: Willy Loman and Walter Lee Young, characters that reflect typical features of the
people who struggles to achieve the American Dream. Although they may have common
characteristics and share similarities, they also have numerous issues and are very different, setting
them apart from other families and even each other. Therefore, the main focus of this paper will be
to compare and put in contrast these two great characters. In both plays, A Raisin the Sun and Death
of a Salesman, the father (Walter and Willy) is the main individual that holds his attention
throughout the plays. Because of their roles are often changing in the plays, Walter and Willy can
be the protagonistand the antagonist. That being said, they both have goals to possess their own
business and to be their own boss. They both strive to live wealthy. As Walter says No...It was
always money, Mama. We just didn t know about it (Hansberry). This reveals that Walter is more
materialistic instead of considering the feeling of his family.
Willy and Walter are very similar in many ways. For instance, they both are trying to be good
fathers. Walter s goal to get rich is influenced by his restless desire to offer to his family a better
life: You tired, ain t you? Tired of everything. Me, the boy, the way we live this beat up hole
everything. Ain t you? (Discovering Literature, 1295). Meanwhile, the love that Willy has for his
sons is undeniable. Very often he would slip into the past before he drifted apart from his sons:

Impact of Reaganomics on the American Economy
Leading up to the year 1981, America had fallen into a period of stagflation , a portmanteau for
stagnant economy and high inflation . Characterized by high taxes, high unemployment, high
interest rates, and low national spirit, America needed to look to something other than Keynesian
economics to pull itself out of this low. During the election of 1980, Ronald Reagans campaign
focused on a new stream of economic policy. His objective was to turn the economy into a healthy,
vigorous, growing economy [which would provide] equal opportunities for all Americans, with no
barriers born of bigotry or discrimination. Reagan s policy, later known as Reaganomics, entailed a

Reagan s deficit spending did not only affect that period of time, it created a tolerance for deficit
spending that will continue to affect the economy for many years.
This time saw much prosperity for certain areas, such as the stock market. Investors were
receiving astonishingly high returns on stocks and were seeing their incomes skyrocket.
Overall, during the 1980s real GDP per capita increased by 23% and the value of the stock
market almost tripled. However the economic choices Reagan made transferring the weight of
taxes from the rich to the poor had unfairly redistributed the wealth in the nation. Along with the
great prosperity came the equal suffering on the part of the lower class who felt the pains of
Reagan s policies. The wealthiest в…• of Americans income soared by a rate of 14%, while the
poorest в…• of Americans income declined by 24%, widening the gap between the social classes.
Even though Reagan was very confident about his economic plan many others were weary of his
ideas. George W. Bush Sr. proclaimed Reagan s economic ideas as Voodoo economics believing
Reagan s policy would not live up to its predicted outcome; ironically enough Bush and his son both
adopted these policies during their presidencies. Many important congressmen had many fears in
Reagan s policies, they believed that imposing such tax cuts would raise inflation and cause higher
interest rates. The public on the other hand, praised these

Drug Abuse In America Essay
Drug Abuse in America
Every citizen of the United States has been affected by drug abuse. Be it directly or indirectly we
have all felt the negative effects on our society, our economy, and our safety. Why do Americans
abuse drugs? There seems little progress toward an answer considering illicit drug use has gone
from 8.3% to 9.4% since 2002. Clearly, we are no closer to a solution than we were fourteen
years ago. One reason so many Americans use illicit drugs is the ease of availability. There is a
near unlimited supply of drugs and people willing to sell them, especially in low income areas.
Additionally, it is easy to purchase narcotics anonymously on the deep web. Another cause of drug
abuse is self medication. People with depression or who are in pain often medicate their symptoms
with illicit drugs. It is estimated that over 52% of drug related deaths in the U.S. are due to
prescription drugs. While some deaths can be attributed to suicide, many result from incorrect
dosage. People often take drugs with the intention of having a good time or ... Show more content

The opioid epidemic is devastating American families and communities. To curb these trends and

Of the many items that help enhance the horror of the Nazi Holocaust, one of the most notable is
what it had of systematic and bureaucratic. Not only killing people, which would have had
already been enough, but precisely being made in a quiet and civilized way. It is not strange the
image of the Nazi leader quoting his favorite poet while sending to death hundreds of people,
belying the myth that culture and education make people better. The Holocaust was primarily an
act performed with such rationality that could only become insane. It almost seems that it could

A Brief Note On Barriers Faced By Women During...
3.1 Scope of the Chapter This chapter aims to critically analyse the contributions to the topic of
barriers faced by women in the construction industry with a view to evaluate the existing and
current theory, policy, and practice. Through the literature review, the major barriers to women in
construction such as the image of the industry, career knowledge, workplace culture and
environment and family commitments will be examined along with other possible barriers. The
relevant policies and best practice guideline promoting gender equality and offering better
opportunities for women in construction and the extent to which the policies meet the government
and the industry expectations will be reviewed and analysed. 3.2 The Status of Women in
Construction The predominant image of construction is that of a male dominated industry requiring
brute strength and a good tolerance for outdoor conditions, inclement weather and bad language
(Agapiou, 2002). It is interesting that people s perception of the industry is rooted in the past,
however, the real image of the construction industry is changing: robotic technologies are replacing
manual labour, corporate culture is promoting gender equality, and flexible working hours are
being introduced. The image problem occurs as schools and colleges do not always consider the
industry as a feasible career option and, moreover, the media does not portray the construction
industry positively; giving preference to programmes on

Thanks to those efforts Catalans can be proud to acknowledge that their languages and dialects are
the most well kept, normalized and preserved in the country, their continuous fight since the very
end of war and their pride about using their language has giving them the courage to embrace and
protect both, their language and their identity in such way that, in Catalonia, Castilian is limited to
those who are foreigners and Catalan to natives.
Unfortunately, a very different thing has happened in Galicia and Basque Country; since, by the
end of war, the governments of both regions were more concerned about political affairs than
preserving languages. In Basque Country, the reason for these lack of protectionism towards
language was the persecution Basques suffer during the Civil War, they were accused of
terrorism whenever they spoke in their own language; they were hunted and killed for this
reason, and all of these actions made them a little afraid of protecting language even years after
the end of war. Something similar happened in Galicia, where there were no efforts to maintain
language after the war. It was years later that governments started to make efforts to preserve and
rescue the language and to normalize it and make it mandatory in each school around the region,
but the accurate and pure versions of them got lost with time and what new generations speak

The Mongols And The Mongol Empire

Were the Mongols able to conquer such vast areas of land because of their superior battle tactics or
because of the tools and weapons the Mongols used?
I. Introduction
The Mongols were made up of many fierce tribes originating from the steppes of central Asia.
They were able to take over large parts of the known world in a matter of a few decades. The
Mongol empire was the greatest and largest continuous land empire the world has ever known.
Relatively shortly after Genghis Khan, leader of the Mongol forces, died, the huge Mongol empire
split into four Khanates that were ruled separately and independently. Ultimately these empires also
failed after a period of time but the Mongols had a long standing influence on numerous cultures
not only of Asia but also of the Western world.
Genghis Khan was the leader of the Mongol forces. Originally named Temujin, he gave himself the
name Genghis Khan. The Khan s name has many different translations and one of them is oceanic
sovereign (Jarus). He was a natural born tactician and conquered many great empires through
clever, crafty, and many times cruel ways to beat the enemy. Genghis Khan died shortly before he
was about to start a campaign against China and the Shin Empire. By Genghis Khan s death, the
Mongol Empire stretched from China all the way to Egypt. A short time after the Khan s death, the
Empire split into four Khanates. However, their combined size had not

you have already mastered, you will never grow. I agree with this because I believe that there is
always room to grow in life and people always need to push themselves to the next level. Even
once someone master something, they can always do better. There is nobody there telling people
okay, you ve mastered this, you don t need to go any further ;however, many people think that
once they ve reached a certain point they can just stop because they ve gotten that far. The
problem is that people need to realize that even after a certain skill is mastered or they reach a

Many people show examples of breaking past the point of doing well to get to a place where

after the Macintosh was successful and taken his profit and been done. Instead, Steve actually
did the opposite and he strove to make a fortune off his ideas because he knew they were worth
something. He continued to create new ideas and devices that people went fanatic over, and he
succeeded. All of it happened because he went beyond just mastering one thing. He expanded his
thoughts into a greater idea that absolutely benefited him in the long run. In my personal
experiences, I have learned that pushing myself caused me great achievements, academically as
well as socially. In school, when I think I m doing my best, I try harder. When I think I help my
friends and family enough, I help more. There is always more to do and more lessons to learn.

The Theory Of The Scientific Revolution
In the Scientific Revolution, there occurred a shift in humans thinking from the medieval emphasis
on God s eternal unchanging world, which governed people, the universe, and nature, to an
approach that defined knowledge and understanding as derived from the immutable laws of nature
independent of received truth. Scientists changed the way people think about the world. The gears
of the revolution began to turn when Copernicus questioned the geocentric theory, developing his
theory of heliocentrism. Many scientists use the method of beginning with a question,
experimenting, then falsifying the previous theory. This method of thinking became what is now
known as the scientific method. Scientists impacted all fields of sciencefrom cosmology to biology.
The fields of mathematics, chemistry, and medicine were drastically improved because of the
scientists in their fields who discovered new concepts to propell the movement. In all three fields,
there was a thirst for understanding and organization that was answered by the revolutionary new
concepts. For chemistry, it was the development of the scientific method, for mathematics, it was
the organization of the universe, and for medicine, it was the movement towards clinical practices.
Due to prominent mathematicians of the time period, the field of mathematics was expanded
because of the reason that it provided in a socially chaotic time period. In the French language,
raison is the word in french for reason and also the

Essay about The Role of Violence and Television
Television and Violence
One of the increasing problems in today`s society is the violence caused by watching too much
television. In 1950`s only 10% of American households had television, but today that number
reached higher levels and 99% of households own one or more. Television is most of the time
amusement and entertainment for many young people, especially children. Television itself has an
impact on everyone. Some researches show that television has good sides and that can be
entertaining and educational at the same time, where children learn more about cultures, places,
and they use their knowledge when it`s necessary. Yet we need to remember that only certain
programs are carrying positive messages which affect children ... Show more content on

Therefore, some see television as an unhealthy imposition into a child s learning process,
substituting easy pictures for the discipline of reading and concentrating and transforming the
young viewer into a hypnotized non thinker (Langone 48). Children while growing up and
spending 4 5 hours in front of television everyday will imitate aggressive acts shown on TV. The
only solution to this is to prevent it at the beginning. Parents can certainly control how much
television their children will have on daily basis. Television should not be in every room of the
house, especially children`s room, where they have the opportunity to watch shows while parents
are busy doing other stuff. Those violent acts certainly can be reduced by control which starts at the
beginning instead of waiting until everyone is helpless to improve the situation.
Perhaps one of the crucial problems is the possibility of developing the lack of social skills.
Children, while spending time at home in front of television tend to develop anti social skills,
which will affect their future and their entire life. Watching television shows, in most cases replaces
activities that children should be doing at their age. Instead of reading, learning, playing with their
friends, doing chores, having a physical activity, they sit at home. This way of antisocial activity
affects family too, because

Advantage And Disadvantages Of Renewable Energy Sources
1. Introduction
As fossil fuel runs out, the world is in search of an alternative means of generating electricity. This
dilemma is a worldwide concern and in the past few decades scientist have discovered many new,
renewable means of generating electricity. Examples of these renewable sources are hydro energy,
ocean energy, wind energy and solar energy. In order to fulfil in the worlds and South Africa s
excessive energy needs these renewable energy sources need to be implemented.
The purpose of this report is to introduce different types of renewable energy sources by giving a
short summary of each of the above mentioned sources and give a more detailed overview of solar
energy that is a source option for South Africa.
This report firstly gives an overview on renewable energy. Then it looks at four different sources as
options. Finally solar energy is discussed in more detail with advantages and disadvantages.
2. Renewable Energy Overview
Many countries rely greatly on energy producing sources like oil, coal and natural gas, including
South Africa. However fossil fuels like the above mentioned, are non renewable and will eventually
run out, become more expensive or too environmentally dangerous to continue using. In contrast to
theses scares energy sources, renewable energy sources such as wind, water, hydro and solar
energy are constantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wind and hydro electrical power are the direct result of differential heating of the Earth surface
which leads to air moving about and precipitation forming as the air is lifted. Solar energy is the
direct conversion of sunlight using panels or collectors. Having this in mind it only makes sense to
implement solar energy as a basis in South Africa and to thereafter build upon that to apply other
renewable energies to South Africa.

Kant Evil
Everyone wants a good will, representing a true heart and good impressions towards people. A
good will has a lot of definition like talents, courage, respects...etc. On the other hand, it can be
very negative like disrespectful, harming or hurting people. As Kant said Understanding, wit, the
power of judgment, and like talents of the mind, whatever they might be called, or courage,
resoluteness, persistence in an intention, as qualities of temperament, are without doubt in some
respects good and to be wished for; but they can also become extremely evil and harmful, if the
will that is to make use of these gifts of nature, and whose peculiar constitution is therefore called
character, is not good. (Kant, Ak 4:393) For example, a girl is born... Show more content on

I think it is all right to have a purpose behind the duty, but it should be depends on the whether the
purpose is negative or positive. If the purpose is positive, I think it can be considered as duty.
For example, a person donates his organs to a patient, his purpose is to help the patient instead
of his own happiness, or there is a situation that the patient is important to the donor. Both of the
situations are out of good will, a good purpose, so it should be considered as a good, moral duty.
To conclude, I believed a good will is built naturally, inborn but there are factors from the
growing environment like family background, peer pressure that affects the good will. These may
makes people become evil. On the other hand, I believed no matter there is no purpose or positive
purpose behind can be considered as duty. The Kant s idea of duty is no purpose behind because he
thinks duty should not benefit to ourselves but others. Sometimes positive purposes also benefit to
others instead of benefit to

Median Housing Price Of The Great Lake Megaregion
Table 1 provides descriptive statistics of independent and dependent variables used in our analysis.
Median housing price of the Great Lake Megaregion is $164,447 and its monthly growth rate is
0.31% during 2013 June through 2016 May. The average value of planning time index is 3.01 and
its monthly growth rate is 1.34%. Interest rateand mortgage rate are 0.79% and 4.03%, respectively.
The averageconstruction price index obtained from Census is 112.46. The average unemployment
rate is 5.64. The number of household and the number of firm at the zip code level is 8,581 and
726, respectively. And their vacant rates are 3.32% and 9.58%. The average percentages of park
and lake are about 2%.
4.2. Estimation results of Housing Price Model
Table 2 presents estimation results of our empirical model represented by equation (5). The first
column shows estimation results only including housing prices and traffic congestion index without
other control variables. The result presents that traffic congestion growth is negatively associated
with growth in median housing prices. Such results are slightly changed when including control
variables or fixed effects terms, but almost consistent and robust as shown in the model (2) through
model (6). Since different locations and different time influence growth in housing prices (see
Figure 5, again), model (6) that include locational and time fixed effects is the best fit to explain the
relationship between congestion growth and housing price

Legalization Of Cannabis In Canada
In recent years, the legalization of Cannabis has become a popular issue and conversation topic in
canada. Other countries, such as the Netherlands and Canada s neighbour, the United States of
America have begun to legalize the use of Cannabis for medicinal and recreational purposes. As a
result, other nations across the globe, including Canada, are also looking towards the legalization of
the Cannabisplant. Many trials have been conducted, proving benefits from usage, and various uses,
beyond bodily consumption have been discovered, and may provide excellent alternatives to other
things that humans use.

Cannabis sales in the state of Colorado have also resulted in $10.8 million worth of tax money.

Essay about Marijuana Should Be Legalized
In a country where tobacco products and alcohol are legal, I have always wondered, why not
cannabis? Why did this plant still have the stigma of being illegal when it does not cause any
deaths, is not nearly as physically addicting, nor as harmful as its legal counterparts? Clearly, the
law of marijuana prohibition is one that is up for debate and one that is up for change. Currently,
many state laws have been passed that are either decriminalizing marijuanaor allowing it for purely
medicinalpurposes. Although these laws are moving towards legalization, they do not come close
to the actual goal. The definition of legalization advocates are striving to reach refers to legalized
wholesale production, distribution,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, people will always use marijuana because it is an alternative source of relaxation and
recreation. The government should learn to embrace these people s ability to choose rather than
prohibiting this source of intoxication which, despite its illegality, is already prevalent in society.
Not only would there be an increase of freedom of choice, but many people would literally gain
freedom. Allen St. Pierre, the Director of NORML (National Organization to Reform Marijuana
Laws) states that since 1965, nearly 20 million citizens have been arrested in the United States
on cannabis related charges. More astonishingly, nine out of ten of these charges are for mere
cannabis possession. Such arrests are so frequent that almost everyone I have come in contact
with has a friend or family member affected by these petty laws. Even with new
decriminalization laws, in nearly every state, a person who commits a marijuana offense and fully
serves his or her sentence (or successfully completes probation) is nonetheless subject to
continuing and long lasting professional debilitation, barriers to family life, and limits on civic
participation (Pierre). It is unfair that many people have to go through life with a criminal record
especially for mere possession of the drug. As a result, jails are being filled with

A Compare and Contrast of Two Statuettes
I have chosen as the subject of my essay to contrast and compare two female statuettes from ancient
cultures. The first is an ancient Egyptian statuette named The Offering Bearer which was
discovered about 1920 in the tomb of Meketre in Thebes and appears to have been made around
1985 B.C.E. by an unknown. (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2007). The second is an unnamed
figurine commonly referred to as Statuette of A Standing Woman. This statuette, whose artist is
unknown, is one of several figurines collectively called the Tanagra... Show more content on

(The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2007). The Statuette of A Standing Woman and the other
Tanagra figurines, however, marked a new trend in Greek art of examining and representing
common women in every day pursuits. Marking women as worthy of notice just for existing rather
then needing special status to be recognized. (Department of Greek and Roman Art, 2007).
The culture of Egypt at the time The Offering Bearer was made seems to be one that reserved art
for chronicling and celebrating fantastic or sacred occurrences, whereas Greek art at the time of
the Tanagra figurines had learned to find artistic potential in every day life. Egyptian life was
still heavily tied to absolute rule of pharaohs and worship of multiple gods as a defining force in
everyday life. Materials and tools would have been scarce and most art reserved for the ruling or
wealthy classes. Greece however, was an evolving culture. Greece had a history of embracing new
ideas in social, scholarly, and artistic endeavors.
In conclusion both sculptures depict a common thread in the society which created them. One a
common occurrence where the act being portrayed elevates the female subject to a more important
position then she would otherwise have enjoyed the other the beauty of women in common life.

Juveniles And Crime
According to the text, the societal view regarding, juveniles are not found guilty of committing
crimes (cripe, pg. ). The term guilty connote criminality. Based on the English legal system,
children do not have the mental capacity to commit crime, therefore are not responsible for their
acts. As a result, juveniles are treated under special rules that are designed for their protection.
Juveniles are processed in special court which is not open to the public. Additionally, juvenile
records are sealed from the public scrutiny. In society views, juvenile are incapable to protect
themselves because they are not mature enough, as a result, it is up to the government to act as

  • 2. How Does Oscar Wilde Use Humor In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest there are multiple types of humor. Oscar Wilde was known for being quite humorous and he shows this throughout the story. This story has grown to be very popular and has been made into countless stage productions and even three films. The Importance of being Earnest can thank its humor and hysterical tone for making it into the widely known and loved play that it is today. One type of humor that is found in The Importance of Being Earnest is inversion humor. Inversion humor is when someone goes against logical reasoning and says expressions that make little to no sense at all. In inversion humor, the end of the phrase being said is typically the opposite of what you expect to be said, and is very unpredictable. One of many instances where this type of humor is found is when Cecily says, I don t like novels that end happily. They depress me so much (Wilde, Act II P.2311). As you can see she begins with saying she does not like happy endings and then contradicts the meaning of the word happy and says that they depress her. There are numerous other instances where inversion humor is used and it adds greatly to the tone of the story.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A satire is typically a writing style that focuses on criticizing an individual, social class, or a society by using humor or a hyperbole. Satires are used to ridicule shortcomings and do it in a funny or comical manner. Lady Bracknell is an excellent example of satirical humor. When she is contemplating whether not she approves of Earnest she points out all of his flaws and then gives a funny, unexpected response. She criticizes him for living on the wrong side of the street that has houses that are not quite as nice as the other sides. Algernon is also a great example of a satire. He is known as self centered and will blame anyone except himself when problems arise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Does Merlin Influence Arthur s Life The Hollow Hills by Mary Stewart is a new twist on the classic King Arthur tale with the spotlight on protecting Arthur for the sake of the kingdom s destiny. Over the course of the book many important men, or lack thereof, have big influences on Arthur s life and how he will be as a leader or family member in the future. A big influence on Arthur in this story is Merlin. Whether Arthur realizes it or not, Merlin has really set the course of his life. Merlin helped place Arthur and set up who would be around him, so not only did he directly influence Arthur when they finally met, he also picked good people who he knew would affect Arthur in a positive way. All of these traits can and will influence Arthur in a positive way. ...Ralf was soon active again, insistent that he no longer needed doctoring. (Stewart 45), Ralf was never down for long and some of this is shown in Arthur. When Cador finds Merlin on the Isle of Glass, Arthur s immediate reaction is to threaten Cador even with an army opposing him. This could be linked to how Ralf is protective of who he loves. Uther sending Arthur away obviously influenced Arthur s life in a major way, even if Arthur did not realize it at the time. Later, when Arthur had learned what had happened, he was definitely confused, but soon calmed down and understood why. Seeing that his father made such a large decision and stuck with it could have influenced how he rules as a king. Arthur had little time with his Uther before the king passed, but of the time they had Arthur saw uther be a great leader in a time of illness, QUOTE HERE, a time that Arthur could look back to in the future and draw strength from. • 4. Corruption Of Racism Smyth explains that if a group is oppressed, then it is only a matter of time before they revolt and turn violent. As they feel that there is no other way to get noticed, as is often the case (p.30). When George Holliday managed to capture film of the police brutality against Rodney King, it seemed like a godsend. He sent the tapes to various news organizations who broadcasted them on television. If you send a complaint to the police telling them that they are doing wrong, they are going to say that they are not, and keep their power. By broadcasting the LAPD s wrongdoings on national television, George Holliday exposed the corrupt and broken system for what it was. Finally it seemed there would be justice for those who were supposed to enforce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech By Ronald Reagan Two hundred and nine thousand. That is the number of lives that were nobly given to save the many during the invasion of Normandy (D day and the Battle of Normandy). The courageous men and women fought continuously for days on end, climbing the jagged cliffs of Normandy, France. Under rifle fire from gun nests from above, the allied troops were able to take control of the coastline, but not without great sacrifice. The speech given by Ronald Reaganwas made to commemorate those who fearlessly fought for our country and the many thousands that gave their lives during those hard days of war. His speech had a clear message, to honor and remember those who gave and risked their lives during the invasion of Normandy. Logos is can be seen frequently in this speech. You were young the day you took these cliffs; some of you were hardly more than boys, with the deepest joys of life before you. Yet, you risked everything here. Why? Why did you do it? What impelled you to put aside the instinct for self preservation and risk your lives to take these cliffs? What inspired all the men of the armies that met here? We look at you, and somehow we know the answer. It was faith and belief; it was loyalty and love. (Reagan). He answers his questions with love and loyalty for their families and their country. Gentrification Of The West Philadelphia Gentrification in North Philadelphia Gentrification began to garner a great deal of attention from scholars, politicians, and the media soon after the phenomenon was first identified by Ruth Glass in the 1964 (Glass, 1964). Politicians and academics have debated[[delete,] what constitutes gentrification, whether gentrification is a legitimate means of improving the economy of metropolitan neighborhoods, or if the influx of wealthier residents into a low income neighborhood is more akin to an invasion,, an invasion which could lead to conflict along class and racial/ethnic lines as once public spaces are appropriated by corporate interests. Theory Soon after the term gentrification was conceived, scholars began to develop and debate its theoretical foundation. Neil Smith and David Ley engaged in one of the more important theoretical debates about the causal factors of gentrification. Neil Smith s rent gap theory frames gentrification in economic terms. Essentially the rent gap theory is based on the classic economic law of supply and demand (Smith, 1979). According to Smith when there is a disparity between income collected from rent and the potential achievable rental income, investors will seek to renovate and increase rent (Smith, 1979). Ley rejects Smith s claim that gentrification is caused only by the changing housing market and presented his own theory which places societal needs as the driving force behind ... Substance Dualism Research Paper Tomasz Nowakowski Intro to Philosophy Dr. Wall 2/17/2015 The Mind There are three main theories that explains the nature of the human mind; substance dualism, the identity theory and functionalism. All of these theories deal with the mind, but are separated by how each relates to the body. In this paper I will be distinguishing the main strengths and weaknesses within these theories and be defending which one I feel to be the best theory. One of the three main theories is substance dualism. Substance dualism deals with how the mind and body are different substances with an independent existence. Identity theory focuses more on the family views on relationships between the mind and body. This theory states that the mind and body don t necessary need to be connected, but can be. It also states that if the chemical state of the brain is doing something, then the mind is doing something in relationship to it. In other words the mind is the exact same as the brain and mental and brain events are identical. There are two types of Identity theory; type identity theory and token identity theory. These theories make a distinction between general and particular identities . Type identity theory focuses on how the mental state will always be identical to the brain state. As for token identity, this part of the theory focuses on how there are separate differences in human and animal brains and mental states are different. There are many strengths for the Identity Theory compared to the first theory we looked at. Its a much more black and white theory, it being more simple makes it easier for more people to understand. It has less assumptions and it only focusing on the mind part of it, instead of the physical side of it makes it fair more simple. ALong with making it more simple, it also takes out the mind and body insertion confusion, making it a preferable theories to others. • 10. Essays On Siddhartha Daniel Gutierrez Honors English 4 Mr. Rodriguez 08/30/17 Siddhartha That was how everyone loved Siddhartha. He delighted and made everybody happy. But Siddhartha was not happy. (Page 6) This is a great example of perception vs. reality as everyone makes it seem that one person might be happy, but inside they can be at the complete opposite state. This causes him to have the desire for more wisdom than what he has been taught. He wanted to find out what was really important and wanted to feel no emotion in regards to what people think of him. What is concentration? What is the ability to leave one s body? What is fasting? What is retention of breath? It is a flight from the self, it is a brief escape from the torment of being I , it is a brief numbing of the mind to counter pain and the senselessness of life. (Page 9) Siddhartha is saying. that the practices of the samana are just a way of leaving life and its problems temporarily by making their bodies undergo these hardships. They eventually become numb with the pain and by doing so, the samana are able to leave their worries of the real world temporarily. Yes, he thought breather deeply, I will no longer try to escape from Siddhartha. I will learn from myself, be my own pupil; I will learn from myself the secret of Siddhartha. (Page 32) Here Siddhartha is demonstrating that he is the only one that matters when it comes to thoughts of who he is, and only his opinion of himself matters. Acceptance and the ability to look into himself will lead to that road of happiness. Also, to be minimalistic as to if there is nothing to be needed then it is not. This is something many people should take into consideration as to stay away from being materialistic. He looked around him as if seeing the world for the first time. The world was beautiful, strange, and mysterious. (page 39) Siddhartha Govinda left to join the Samanas to set themselves free for enlightenment. The Samanas put out the idea that you must eliminate the self so one can achieve spiritual fulfillment one day. Now he, too, felt belatedly for once in his life that strongest and strangest of passions; he suffered from it, suffered pitifully, and yet he was blessed, and yet he was in ... Neither story illustrates direct sin or disobedience, however, they do show God s way of punishment for sin and disobedience, with a touch of irony. The Old Testament utilizes these stories as teachings that can be seen as rise and fall, or sin before punishment through the law of unintended consequences. The Tower of Babel, a story in Genesis 11, is centered on a community that want to become more unified and create a good name for themselves. A controversy that is outdated back to the 14th century, an era when society started questioning, their religions and started to grasp reality. In Life of Pi, the author uses Pi (Piscine Molitor Patel) the Protagonist to express that society needs both scienceand religionequally. In the book, most of the animals mentioned are used as metaphors even the earliest ones starting from the three toed sloth. The skin preforms anatomical and physiological functions which are essential to life. Damage to this system has the potential to cause irreversible chain reactions and wide spread systemic collapse that can lead to death. DermNet NZ (2006) Introduction: Burns are an everyday occurrence in the New Zealand context. There is a considerable amount of documentation outlining the causes and the effects on New Zealand society. This documentation highlights a concern that children number highly in the statistics. What follows is a brief outline of the incidence of burns in New Zealand and the pathological effects of burns on the human body in general, followed by how attending emergency crew would deal with a burn victim. ______________________________________________________________________ The incidence pattern of burn injuries in the NZ context is presented in the Accident Compensation Committees report of 2006 titled, Management of Burns and Scalds in Primary Care. It states burn related accidents are primarily a result of accidents within the home. Of those incidents children under the age of five are at the highest risk. Abstract: The primary motivation behind this paper is to examine the essential comprehension of power quality in connection to the distributed generation. Because of extensive cover between two innovations, aggravations influencing the power quality, which are principally caused by the expansion of Distributed Generation (DG) on the existing power system network. Infusion of the DG into an electric power grid can influence the voltage quality. Distributed generation of various voltage levels when associated with the power system network could impact the voltage regulation, sustained interruptions, harmonics, sags, swells, and so on. All the data given here are gathered from various references by remembering the understudies at the starting level of the concerned topic. I. INTRODUCTION The request of force is heightened in the realm of power. This development of interest triggers a need of more power generation. DG utilizes smaller sized generators than does the ordinary central station plant. Distributed generators are little scale generators found near purchasers; regularly Distributed Generators are of 1 kW to 100 MW [1]. Meaning of DG [2]. Mary Oliver exhibits this technique by incorporating her tough childhood into her poetry. ...with words, I could build a world I could live in. I had a very dysfunctional family, and a very hard childhood. So I made a world out of words. And it was my salvation (Shriver). As a result of her sufferings, Oliver also turned to naturefor inspiration. Mary Oliver s works focused on her observations in nature, which provided an escape from reality. The Journey is one long stanza with no clear rhyme pattern, and the lengths of the lines vary, thus creating a dramatic effect. Oliver integrates both short and long lines in this poem, which again reflects adversities in life. Oliver s word choice is intentional. She incorporates repetition in her poetry, especially in The Journey, to emphasize the contrast in her thoughts. The word though is repeated four times at the beginning of the poem, though the voices around you/ kept shouting /their bad advice , though the whole house/ began to tremble , though the wind pried/with its stiff fingers , and though their melancholy/was terrible ( The Journey 3 7, 14 15, 17 18). The word though is used to begin a line, creating a negative image. As the poem progresses, the word determined replaces the word though. Oliver repeats this word two times, determined to do/the only thing you could do/determined to save/the only life you could save ( The Journey 33 36). As of now, I know that both my Biological parents were born in Puerto Rico. In addition, please be mindful that the man who is supposedly is my biological father; I did not have a chance to meet his ass until I was 24 years old. Furthermore, I never would have met this fucking man had it not been for me calling my Titi Carmen (Aunty Carmen) in Puerto Rico. Before I go too deep into my family s history, I think it would be best for you guys to get a little bit of my background, my first family, the streets of New York City. For starters, I was born and raised in the most violent poverty stricken section of New York City, The South Bronx. I managed to survive two epidemics, (the crack, and the aids epidemic). I was born in the early seventies. The Bronx to me looked like a fucking warzone, a vast wasteland, where it was not uncommon to see the rats roam free amongst the debris of the streets of New York City; along with the huge water bugs (Cucarachas Grandes), it is what we Ricans in the hood use to call them. These big ass roaches were disgusting; these motherfuckers had wings on them too. So them suckers could fly and shit. I cringe as I writing this shit thinking about them nasty ass disgusting roaches. • 24. Environmental Conservation Of The World War II Environmental conservation has made major advancements throughout history. While its focus during the 1940s was very limited due to World War II, the effects of the war and industrialization led to the environmental deterioration and many significant events that increased the public s attention on pollution. While many minor policies were passed as a way to appease the people, the major shift for environmentalismwas during the 1960s after many pieces of writing were published that exposed the harmful effects of pollutionand toxins that were contaminating the earth. The public s outrage toward the government s lack of involvement led to major legislations to be passed and a noticeable shift in importance to the government. While environmental policies were generally weak and unable to be consistently enforced from 1940 2000, a series of focused legislative acts led to a change in the standardization of working conditions through safety and health regulations and accountability of nationally funded programs on conservation of the environment. One change that occurred in regards to environmental policies in the United States in the past 80 years was the creation of the National Environmental Policy Act which required increased government regulation and involvement in their impact on the environment, and chapter 27 of the North American Free Trade Agreement. • 27. A Raisin The Sun And Willy Loman Compare And Contrast Essay The striving for being rich and have a wealthy life has always been present in the American society. Often living in a capitalistic society leads people to become greedy, and as a result many become too materialistic. This may happen because of the challenge to pursue the American dream where most of Americans are trying to fulfill it. Unfortunately, for most of people it is very difficult to acquire this high status and to secure a spot in the upper class society. Arthur Miller s, Death of a Salesman, and Lorraine Hansberry s, A Raisin the Sun, are two plays that reveal two main characters: Willy Loman and Walter Lee Young, characters that reflect typical features of the people who struggles to achieve the American Dream. Although they may have common characteristics and share similarities, they also have numerous issues and are very different, setting them apart from other families and even each other. Therefore, the main focus of this paper will be to compare and put in contrast these two great characters. In both plays, A Raisin the Sun and Death of a Salesman, the father (Walter and Willy) is the main individual that holds his attention throughout the plays. Because of their roles are often changing in the plays, Walter and Willy can be the protagonistand the antagonist. That being said, they both have goals to possess their own business and to be their own boss. They both strive to live wealthy. As Walter says No...It was always money, Mama. We just didn t know about it (Hansberry). This reveals that Walter is more materialistic instead of considering the feeling of his family. Willy and Walter are very similar in many ways. For instance, they both are trying to be good fathers. Walter s goal to get rich is influenced by his restless desire to offer to his family a better life: You tired, ain t you? Tired of everything. Me, the boy, the way we live this beat up hole everything. Ain t you? (Discovering Literature, 1295). Meanwhile, the love that Willy has for his sons is undeniable. Be it directly or indirectly we have all felt the negative effects on our society, our economy, and our safety. Why do Americans abuse drugs? There seems little progress toward an answer considering illicit drug use has gone from 8.3% to 9.4% since 2002. Clearly, we are no closer to a solution than we were fourteen years ago. One reason so many Americans use illicit drugs is the ease of availability. There is a near unlimited supply of drugs and people willing to sell them, especially in low income areas. Additionally, it is easy to purchase narcotics anonymously on the deep web. Another cause of drug abuse is self medication. People with depression or who are in pain often medicate their symptoms with illicit drugs. It is estimated that over 52% of drug related deaths in the U.S. are due to prescription drugs. The Mongols And The Mongol Empire Melwin Varghese Ms. Holzinger TOK 1 per. 2 18 August 2014 Were the Mongols able to conquer such vast areas of land because of their superior battle tactics or because of the tools and weapons the Mongols used? I. Introduction The Mongols were made up of many fierce tribes originating from the steppes of central Asia. They were able to take over large parts of the known world in a matter of a few decades. The Mongol empire was the greatest and largest continuous land empire the world has ever known. Relatively shortly after Genghis Khan, leader of the Mongol forces, died, the huge Mongol empire split into four Khanates that were ruled separately and independently. Ultimately these empires also failed after a period of time but the Mongols had a long standing influence on numerous cultures not only of Asia but also of the Western world. Genghis Khan was the leader of the Mongol forces. Originally named Temujin, he gave himself the name Genghis Khan. The Khan s name has many different translations and one of them is oceanic sovereign (Jarus). He was a natural born tactician and conquered many great empires through clever, crafty, and many times cruel ways to beat the enemy. Genghis Khan died shortly before he was about to start a campaign against China and the Shin Empire. By Genghis Khan s death, the Mongol Empire stretched from China all the way to Egypt. A short time after the Khan s death, the Empire split into four Khanates. However, their combined size had not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When You Have Already Mastered You Will Never Grow Analysis I agree with Ralph Waldo Emerson s statement that Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow. I agree with this because I believe that there is always room to grow in life and people always need to push themselves to the next level. Even once someone master something, they can always do better. There is nobody there telling people okay, you ve mastered this, you don t need to go any further ;however, many people think that once they ve reached a certain point they can just stop because they ve gotten that far. The problem is that people need to realize that even after a certain skill is mastered or they reach a certain point in life you still need to strive to be the best person they can... He expanded his thoughts into a greater idea that absolutely benefited him in the long run. • 41. The Theory Of The Scientific Revolution In the Scientific Revolution, there occurred a shift in humans thinking from the medieval emphasis on God s eternal unchanging world, which governed people, the universe, and nature, to an approach that defined knowledge and understanding as derived from the immutable laws of nature independent of received truth. Scientists changed the way people think about the world. The gears of the revolution began to turn when Copernicus questioned the geocentric theory, developing his theory of heliocentrism. Many scientists use the method of beginning with a question, experimenting, then falsifying the previous theory. This method of thinking became what is now known as the scientific method. Scientists impacted all fields of sciencefrom cosmology to biology. The fields of mathematics, chemistry, and medicine were drastically improved because of the scientists in their fields who discovered new concepts to propell the movement. In all three fields, there was a thirst for understanding and organization that was answered by the revolutionary new concepts. For chemistry, it was the development of the scientific method, for mathematics, it was the organization of the universe, and for medicine, it was the movement towards clinical practices. In 1950`s only 10% of American households had television, but today that number reached higher levels and 99% of households own one or more. Television is most of the time amusement and entertainment for many young people, especially children. Television itself has an impact on everyone. Some researches show that television has good sides and that can be entertaining and educational at the same time, where children learn more about cultures, places, and they use their knowledge when it`s necessary. Yet we need to remember that only certain programs are carrying positive messages which affect children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, some see television as an unhealthy imposition into a child s learning process, substituting easy pictures for the discipline of reading and concentrating and transforming the young viewer into a hypnotized non thinker (Langone 48). Children while growing up and spending 4 5 hours in front of television everyday will imitate aggressive acts shown on TV. The only solution to this is to prevent it at the beginning. Parents can certainly control how much television their children will have on daily basis. Television should not be in every room of the house, especially children`s room, where they have the opportunity to watch shows while parents are busy doing other stuff. Those violent acts certainly can be reduced by control which starts at the beginning instead of waiting until everyone is helpless to improve the situation. Perhaps one of the crucial problems is the possibility of developing the lack of social skills. Children, while spending time at home in front of television tend to develop anti social skills, which will affect their future and their entire life. Watching television shows, in most cases replaces activities that children should be doing at their age. Instead of reading, learning, playing with their friends, doing chores, having a physical activity, they sit at home. This way of antisocial activity affects family too, because ... Both of the situations are out of good will, a good purpose, so it should be considered as a good, moral duty. These may makes people become evil. On the other hand, I believed no matter there is no purpose or positive purpose behind can be considered as duty. Why did this plant still have the stigma of being illegal when it does not cause any deaths, is not nearly as physically addicting, nor as harmful as its legal counterparts? Clearly, the law of marijuana prohibition is one that is up for debate and one that is up for change. Currently, many state laws have been passed that are either decriminalizing marijuanaor allowing it for purely medicinalpurposes. Essentially, people will always use marijuana because it is an alternative source of relaxation and recreation. The government should learn to embrace these people s ability to choose rather than prohibiting this source of intoxication which, despite its illegality, is already prevalent in society. Allen St. Pierre, the Director of NORML (National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws) states that since 1965, nearly 20 million citizens have been arrested in the United States on cannabis related charges. More astonishingly, nine out of ten of these charges are for mere cannabis possession. Such arrests are so frequent that almost everyone I have come in contact with has a friend or family member affected by these petty laws. Even with new decriminalization laws, in nearly every state, a person who commits a marijuana offense and fully serves his or her sentence (or successfully completes probation) is nonetheless subject to continuing and long lasting professional debilitation, barriers to family life, and limits on civic participation (Pierre). Marking women as worthy of notice just for existing rather then needing special status to be recognized. (Department of Greek and Roman Art, 2007). The culture of Egypt at the time The Offering Bearer was made seems to be one that reserved art for chronicling and celebrating fantastic or sacred occurrences, whereas Greek art at the time of the Tanagra figurines had learned to find artistic potential in every day life. Egyptian life was still heavily tied to absolute rule of pharaohs and worship of multiple gods as a defining force in everyday life. Materials and tools would have been scarce and most art reserved for the ruling or wealthy classes. Greece however, was an evolving culture. Greece had a history of embracing new ideas in social, scholarly, and artistic endeavors. In conclusion both sculptures depict a common thread in the society which created them. One a common occurrence where the act being portrayed elevates the female subject to a more important position then she would otherwise have enjoyed the other the beauty of women in common life.
