The Teacher-Librarian particularly enjoys sharing the short listed
books from the Children’s Book Council of Australia modelling
her appreciation for quality writing and illustrations. She combines
enthusiasm and ingenuity to maximise learning opportunities,
modelling inquiry learning by asking questions about the story or
author. She will then draw on students’ curiosity and as a whole
group they actively research on the interactive white board to find
out more information (Hughes, 2013, p.12).
For example The Teacher-Librarian introduced the book The little
refugee with a short comedy video by the author Anh Do, she then
read the book and researched further to find out more about the
types of traditional food Vietnamese people eat. By putting the
book into context her students were more engaged and responded
enthusiastically when the Teacher-Librarian recommended a
similar text.
