2. Introduction
• We have approached a company named Fleetguard
Filtrum Pvt. Ltd. Situated in Nandur.
• In company they manufacture various filters related
to automobile and work on how to improve the
performance of filter and other parameters related to
filters.
• There are 5 types of filters in an automobile.
– Air filter
– Oil filter
– Lube filter
– Fuel filter
– Water oil separator
3. • Filter is a porous screen which allows the specified
size of particle to flow through the medium and
obstruct the particles of larger size which is again
retained on the medium.
• Media medium is used in filters which is of various
types according to size of particle they allow to flow
without any disturbance.
• Fuel filters plays an important role by keeping the
system clean and removing the water particles , dust
particles and other foreign particles.

5. Problem Statement
• Time consuming process
• Amount of dust bypassed by filter cannot be
calculated.
• Actual performance of filter in the automobile
cannot be calculated because in automobile
fuel is not passed from filter in multiple cycles
6. Literature review
• Before developing the single pass test rig they were
calculating the performance parameters on multipass
test rig.
• In multipass test rig the fuel was recirculated through
system in infinite number of times.
• So the problem was that they cannot calculate the
amount dust that can be removed by filter in single
pass and due to infinite number of recirculation of
fuel the test becomes time consuming.
7. • With the help of multipass test rig they can only
calculate the efficiency and dust holding capacity.
• In multipass test rig cleanup filter was not present so
the amount of dust bypassed by main filter cannot be
calculated.
• By using single pass test rig they can calculate the
amount of impurity bypassed by the filter by
providing either automatic particle counter or by
supplying the filtered fuel to the cleanup filter.
• Actual efficiency of filter to restrict the impurities
like dust and foreign particles can be calculated
easily.
10. Objective
• Calculating the actual performance of fuel filter by
providing clean up filter.
• Improving the particle carrying capacity of fuel filter
and improving the efficiency.
• Removing maximum possible size of impurity
without disturbing the flow of fuel.
• Calculating the actual number of particles bypassed
by the filter by providing the automatic particle
counter.
