The Project Accountant coordinates all cost control activities, project accounting and
administrative duties to support Project Managers and Project Superintendents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Understand Owner contractual obligations and assist in setting-up project. i.e. job no., chart-of-
accounts (SOV w/ cost codes & type), PCO numbering system, etc. Coordinate the consistent use
of the SOV by the rest of the project team &/or intra-company departments like corporate
accounting, yard facilities, etc.
2. 2. Assist Project Manager with cost control. This would entail the coordination with the project
team to capture all types of Owner/Architectural/Field/Subcontractor directives, transactions
and activities that has any perceived scope change. Also includes periodic labor loading and
review of cost reports.
3. Prepare and collect payment on monthly Owner billings. This involves collecting, checking, and
getting approvals for all subcontractor billing documentation, printing month-end reports both
of which are reconciled with the Owner billing. This also entails conforming with all company’s &
Owner contractual requirements, i.e. lien waivers, proper approvals, off-site storage
requirements, etc.
4. Enter all sub & non-sub invoices. This includes participation or knowledge of all other
agreements executed within the project, i.e. leases, security arrangements, major purchases or
transfers, etc.
5. Job cost transfer journal entry preparation.
6. Payroll processing for staff and craft personnel, attendance and accident reporting, data entry
for new employees.
7. Compose and or edit letters, memos, reports, procedures, etc., as required to facilitate the day-
to-day operation of the project accounting functions.
8. Act as liaison between project team and others such as the corporate accounting department,
vendors, clients, subcontractors, etc., to set up meetings, clarify and resolve problems,
coordinate work, maintain working relationships all related to the project accounting function.
9. Prepare special reports, studies, accounting breakdowns, etc. These types of duties would
require research, development, and/or interpretation of data and performed with little
supervision or instruction.
10. Resolve discrepancies on invoices or reports by interacting independently with other
departments, vendors and clients.
QUALIFICATIONS
Position requires handling of day-to-day project accounting and administrative work independently.
Must have the ability to analyze raw data and produce reports with only outline objectives given. Must
be a self-starter and take ownership of a given task from start to completion. Performs duties
independently with limited supervision. Must have the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced
environment while handling multiple tasks and priorities. Must be flexible in dealing with people and
have the ability to work through and resolve contentious issues.
3. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or equivalent from a four-year university plus a
minimum of five (5) years related experience and/or training or equivalent combinations of training
and experience. Must have basic working knowledge of the following software: MS Word, Excel,
enterprise software and an ability to quickly learn new custom programs and systems.
