You	
  are	
  working

  quantity	
  surveyors	
  for

  building	
  contractor.	
  You	
  have	
  recently

   tender

   single	
   storey	
   show	
   house	
   project.	
   Your	
   director	
   has	
   decided	
   to	
  
tender	
  the	
  job	
  in	
  order	
  to	
  meet	
  the	
  company	
  profit	
  target.	
  	
  
	
  
In	
   order	
   to	
   win	
   the	
   job,	
   you	
   are	
   required	
   to	
   obtain	
   as	
   many	
   quotations	
   as	
   possible	
   to	
  
estimate	
  for	
  the	
  lowest	
  price.	
  You	
  are	
  also	
  required	
  to	
  estimate	
  the	
  reasonable	
  allowance	
  
for	
  preliminaries,	
  attendance	
  for	
  NSC	
  and	
  profit	
  margin	
  for	
  the

2. ASSIGNMENT

     QSB60504   Bachelor  of  Quantity  Surveying  (Honours)  –  Estimating  (QSB  60504)         1. SCENARIO     You  are  working  as  quantity  surveyors  for  a  building  contractor.  You  have  recently  received   an   invitation   to   tender   a   single   storey   show   house   project.   Your   director   has   decided   to   tender  the  job  in  order  to  meet  the  company  profit  target.       In   order   to   win   the   job,   you   are   required   to   obtain   as   many   quotations   as   possible   to   estimate  for  the  lowest  price.  You  are  also  required  to  estimate  the  reasonable  allowance   for  preliminaries,  attendance  for  NSC  and  profit  margin  for  the  project.       If   you   are   short   listed   for   the   final   tender   negotiation,   you   are   required   to   prepare   a   presentation   to   the   clients.   However,   if   you   fail   to   be   short   listed,   you   are   required   to   prepare  a  presentation  to  your  director.         2. ASSIGNMENT  BRIEF     You   will   need   to   form   a   group   each   comprising   of   about   9-­‐10   students.   Each   group   will   receive   a   tender   invitation.   The   students   shall   follow   the   instruction   given   in   the   tender   invitation  to  obtain  tender  document.  In  order  to  complete  the  assignment,  students  are   require  to:       1) Obtain  the  tender  documents  as  per  the  tender  invitation  (14th Sept,  Thursday)   2) Obtain  quotations  for  estimate     3) Obtain  quotations  for  estimate     4) Virtual  site  visit  (5th  Oct,  Thursday).   5) Estimate  the  unit  rates  using  the  quotations  received  (14th    Sept  to  9th  Nov  2017).   6) Complete  the  tender  document  and  prepare  for  submission  (9th  Nov  2017,  12.00pm).   7) Take  note  of  comments  during  tender  openings  (9th  Nov  2017,  1.00pm).   8) If  students’  group  is  shortlisted,  the  students  will  attend  an  evaluation  session  in  the   form  of  tender  interview.  If  the  students’  group  failed  to  be  shortlisted,  the  students  will   attend  an  evaluation  session  with  the  director.  Evaluation  date:  13th  Nov  2017.

This   assignment   requires   a   highly   co-­‐operative   teamwork.   Students   are   required   to   demonstrate  the  teamwork  as  marks  will  be  allocated  for  teamwork.   2.
