PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS Eric Anderson AIA ARC 466 Farmingdale State College
What are Specifications? Scope Instructions Standard of Quality Instrument of Service Legal Document when part of a Contract
Are there different kinds of specification formats? UNIFORMAT 9 categories based on physical assemblies and systems Function derived; not based on specific materials, products, and activities; based upon performance of system. Used to organize construction information for design-build projects. MASTERFORMAT 50 categories based on specific products, systems, & activities Descriptive; based on specific materials, products, and activities; establishes restrictions and alternates that are acceptable. Used to organize construction information for design-bid-build projects.
How are Specifications Organized? UNIFORMAT Project Manual Section Page System for organizing specification information in the early stages of a project by building elements – performance based Construction documentation using MASTERFORMAT 50 Divisions to organize information on products & activities Division are organized by Section. Each section has three parts – General, Products, Execution Sections are formatted using PageFormat, a standard established by MASTERFORMAT
