3. Introduction
The Project Port City is the largest foreign funded investment
in Sri Lanka.
It costs more than USD 1.4 billion.
It started on 17th of September 2014.later stopped due to
environmental problems.
Cabinet gave its approval to continue with the Colombo port
city project on 5th of February 2015.
4. Infrastructure facilities to set up shopping complexes, water
sports, mini golf course, Formula 1 track, apartments,
recreation parks and more.

5. Why Port City?
In 2004, Colombo Port City Project was launched by
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Former President
Mahinda Rajapaksha.
The launch of the project is expected to change the
skyline of our country.
An extent of 500 acre land fill up in the sea off Galle Face
Green is developed as the port city.

7. Environmental Problems
Sri Lankan fisherman and activits carry placards during a protest in colombo,
Monday ,April 4,2016. Hundreds of people, including priests, environmental
activits and fishermen attended to it.
They said that “Prime Minister must keep promise. He must stop the port city
project ”.
8. Is it powerful like it seems…
Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksha said that India’s National
Security Advisor had requested the former Sri Lankan government to stop the
chinese -funded colombo port city project
Because Project Port City would pose a threat to that country’s security.
Mr.Rajapaksha said that when the BJP government of India came to power
National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval.
“His primary request to stop the Colombo Port City. If it was presented to our
government, then it definitely must have been presented to this government”
Port City is definitely a threat to Security of India.
9. Finally…
On 1st of November,2016 the members of EMC(Environmental Monitoring
Committee) appointed by the Coast Conservation Department (CCD) to
oversee the environmental compliance of the Colombo Port City Development
Project made an inspection tour at the project site.
