• Another tool which is developed along with Project
Charter is the Stakeholder Register at project
initiation stage. A stakeholder register is a simple
tool that defines the key stakeholders of the project,
along with expectations of each stakeholder. This
document becomes a wonderful tool to keep
information organized and aso becomes an input
into the communications management plan to
manage stakeholder engagement.

• At the initiation phase it is crucial to define and
agree upon the main stakeholders whose decision
will greatly impact the project over its lifecycle. The
stakeholder matrix which is also known as RACI
(Responsibility Assignment Matrix), which details
who is responsible (those during the work),
accountable (the one person who ensures the work
is done), consulted (those whose input is needed to
complete the work), and informed (those who
receive status updates on the work). The RACI matrix
template is shown in the Diagram 2.4.

The stakeholder register
• The RACI methodology is commonly used to define
who does what on a project. A stakeholder may have
multiple RACI roles, but only one person will be
accountable for a task.
• Both the project charter and stakeholder register is
presented to the decision makers for a
determination if the project should finally proceed
or be dumped.s
