Final Bachelor thesis Presentation
This document presents the design and analysis of a composite chassis for a Shell Eco Marathon prototype vehicle using finite element analysis. The previous chassis was high in weight and lacked torsional stiffness, reducing fuel efficiency. The aim of this project was to design a lightweight and stiff composite chassis. Various chassis concepts and materials were considered. A sandwich composite structure with carbon fiber skins and Nomex honeycomb core was selected and modeled. Finite element analysis was used to simulate bending, torsion, and load cases. The results showed the composite chassis was 55% lighter and 2 times stiffer compared to the previous chassis. Further optimization of the design was recommended through additional testing.

of chassis by finite element analysis software packages like ANSYS, HyperWorks, etc. Weight reduction is gaining importance as
the designers are trying to reduce the excess weight form the existing vehicle design. A review of the various techniques for weight
reduction for the chassis is presented.

Abstract Light weight and low fuel consumption are the two main demands for a vehicle, particularly for a race car. Steering knuckle, as one of the critical components of a race car, is the main subject in the present study. A light weight and optimized design of steering knuckle is proposed to be used for an EIMARace race car; a small high-performance formula-style car, with suitable material selection as well as valid finite element analysis and optimization studies. First part of this study involves modeling of steering knuckles and analysis of the stresses and displacement under actual load conditions. A CAD and FEA software; SolidWorks, is applied for modeling as well as for static analysis studies. Shape optimization is the second part of this study, utilizing solid Thinking software from Altair Engineering packages. Abstract Light weight and low fuel consumption are the two main demands for a vehicle, particularly for a race car. Steering knuckle, as one of the critical components of a race car, is the main subject in the present study. A light weight and optimized design of steering knuckle is proposed to be used for an EIMARace race car; a small high-performance formula-style car, with suitable material selection as well as valid finite element analysis and optimization studies. First part of this study involves modeling of steering knuckles and analysis of the stresses and displacement under actual load conditions. A CAD and FEA software; SolidWorks, is applied for modeling as well as for static analysis studies. Shape optimization is the second part of this study, utilizing solid Thinking software from Altair Engineering packages. The improved design obtained had achieved 45.8% reduction of mass while meeting the strength requirement. Keywords: Steering knuckle, FEA, Optimization, Race car.

In the last formal presentation of the Williams Seminar on air-sea integration, John Blackburn, the former Deputy Chair of the Williams Foundation and a past Deputy Chief of the RAAF, addressed the challenge of building from the ground up a truly integrated force. To do so, requires more than the significant efforts the services are each doing working to shape cross modernization; it required a new approach to force structure design.
He then announced that on 6 March 2017, the Foundation will run a one-day Seminar on the topic of Integrated Force Design, stepping beyond the focus on airpower, sea power and Land power to one of integrated power. He also announced the Foundations plan to run a case study Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) in order to explore how we could achieve an Integrated Force Design.
"We will explore a new way of working together at the integrated level and we intend to some analysis with force characteristics of this future integrated force. We aim to help the project officers think beyond their own projects to design in greater capability to leverage one another from the outset, from the design level. In fact, the challenge is ensure that the aperture is wide within individual projects to have the kind of interactive dynamic developments which a joint force design process can unleash. Unfortunately many projects often narrow the aperture to a replacement mindset in order to save time.
We want the project officers of individual projects to be able to say: "Okay, in my project as well as replacing what I had today, I've got to make sure that the capability I'm designing be a part of the future kill web rather than a force component networked or connected in an after-market after thought.
We see that as the main challenge and the opportunity to design the future force, integrated at birth."

Structural Analysis of Ladder Chassis Frame for Jeep Using Ansys
Automotive chassis frame is an important part of an automobile. The automotive chassis
frame is the structural backbone of any vehicle. The main function of chassis frame is to support the
body, different parts of an automobile and topayload placed upon it.The chassis frame has to withstand
the stresses developed as well as deformation occurs in it and to withstand the shock, twist vibration
and other stresses. Its principle function is to carry the maximum load for all designed operating
condition safelythat should be within a limit. On chassis, frame maximum shear stress and deflection
under maximum load are important criteria for design andanalysis. In these projects, we
havecalculated the von mises stress and shear stress for the chassis frame and the finite element
analysis has been donefor the validation on the chassis frame model of jeep. We have taken certain
material as Mild sheet steel, aluminium alloy and titanium alloy for the rectangular hollow box type to
design chassis frame of jeep.
Software used in this project, CATIA V5-[Product 1] for design purpose and ANSYS 14 is used for
analysis.
