There are nine active volcanoes in the world. The last to erupt was Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland in April 2010, causing airports in Europe to close. The highest volcano in the world is Ojos del Salado in Chile, which last erupted in 1873 and 1993. It and Mount Etna in Sicily, Italy are two of the most active volcanoes globally. In Spain, Teide volcano on Tenerife is the tallest at 3,718 meters, higher than Etna. Within Catalonia are Croscat and Santa Margarita volcanoes near Olot, which can be visited and the latter contains a church.
