Sports, football specifically, is the foundation of the COMETSA Group. The organization was started as a development football club in Parktown/Hillbrow, Johannesburg, on the 1st August 1997. It has since developed into a management consulting group, and transferred its sports development activities to COMETSA Sports Development Agency NPC. Other development agencies have also been registered. As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary this year, 2017, most of the agencies will kickoff their development projects, marking the new beginning for COMETSA Group.
COMETSA Development Agencies are the Socio-Economic Development Arms of COMETSA Group. They are, however, independent and have their own Boards of Directors. The administration is performed on a fee basis by COMETSA Shared Services.
Each Agency produces its own set of reports. These reports are not consolidated into COMETSA Group, since the agencies are separately registered (NPCs). The agencies implement and/or support their own projects in the communities, and sometimes collaborate with each other.
Most of the projects are funded by independent individual and/or organization donors who identify COMETSA as a preferred implementing partner. The agencies also identify and implement community development projects on behalf of the Corporate Social Investment units of COMETSA clients.

This talk highlights major improvements in Machine Learning (ML) targeted for Apache Spark 2.0. The MLlib 2.0 release focuses on ease of use for data science—both for casual and power users. We will discuss 3 key improvements: persisting models for production, customizing Pipelines, and improvements to models and APIs critical to data science.
(1) MLlib simplifies moving ML models to production by adding full support for model and Pipeline persistence. Individual models—and entire Pipelines including feature transformations—can be built on one Spark deployment, saved, and loaded onto other Spark deployments for production and serving.
(2) Users will find it much easier to implement custom feature transformers and models. Abstractions automatically handle input schema validation, as well as persistence for saving and loading models.
(3) For statisticians and data scientists, MLlib has doubled down on Generalized Linear Models (GLMs), which are key algorithms for many use cases. MLlib now supports more GLM families and link functions, handles corner cases more gracefully, and provides more model statistics. Also, expanded language APIs allow data scientists using Python and R to call many more algorithms.
Finally, we will demonstrate these improvements live and show how they facilitate getting started with ML on Spark, customizing implementations, and moving to production.

THE LEKGOTLA WAY METHODOLOGY! We are offering the opportunity for the participants to dialogue and converse with each other at the mini-LEKGOTLAs over breakfast, lunch or dinner sessions, even virtually, depending on the format of the sessions (i.e. face to face or virtual) in small groups. The facilitators introduce the topic, a few insights, and global trends. Each mini-LEKGOTLA appoints its Chairperson who oversees the proceedings., the scribe who captures the deliberations, and the rapporteur who shortly reports back to the main-LEKGOTLA (i.e. the plenary). The facilitators then open the floor for Q & A and general discussions. The African brainstorming concept is the LEKGOTLA concept. The participants demonstrate the highest level of respect for fellow participants of the dialogue and conversation circle. The participant who is on the floor is given full space to raise the issues and is fully listened to by the other participants of the LEKGOTLA. The participants are free to agree to disagree. This is the best African negotiation and conflict resolution mechanism. At the end of the main-LEKGOTLA the Chairperson of the main LEKGOTLA summarises the inputs and facilitates the process to arrive at the resolutions of the session. The main-LEKGOTLA formulates what it views as the resolutions for the participants to consider for further discussions and practical implementation in their own lives, organizations, communities, and enterprises.

The LEKGOTLA Way Learning & Development MethodologySam Tsima
The Origin, Rules, and Modern Relevance: The word Lekgotla is an African word used to describe a meeting of a traditional court, a council meeting or a public meeting. The meeting is chaired by the King, Chief or Headsman and decisions are arrived at by consensus of all present. The set-up would be at the King's Palace, under a tree, in the kraal or in an area set up specifically for the Lekgotla. The Nkosi or Chair holds the King's traditional stick (induku yenkosi) and once in his hand, he is officially on the floor and cannot be interrupted. He introduces the topic to be discussed, and the agenda items. He opens up the "floor" for discussion. Any member of the Lekgotla who wishes to speak must stand up and approach the Nkosi or Chair to reach for "induku yenkosi", return to his seat and then make his input.
The King's role is also to make sure that LEKGOTLA is focused. It is seldom that the LEKGOTLA will tackle more than one agenda item. If there are other matters that are urgent and important, they will be relegated to a separate LEKGOTLA. If these extra topics are falling under the same theme that informs the LEKGOTLA, they will be tackled at the end when the current matters have been fully addressed.
The application of LEKGOTLA in our modern setting requires that all cellular phones be put off or on silence during the meetings. Any expected and urgent call during the meeting should be brought to the attention of iNkosi/Chair. All ipads, tablets and PC's must be off, unless they form part of the agenda and contain documentation pertaining to the meeting. No reading of emails is permitted during the Lekgotla. In order to enable free flow of dialogue during brainstorming and downtime when lighter moments are being shared, the Chair/Nkosi will place "induku yenkosi" down either by his side or at the centre of the table if in a board room format. Members of the team will, however, still respect and allow the person on the "floor" to speak before making a new point.
Coaching is a structured facilitated learning intervention. The coach and the client establish the reason for which they are embarking on a coaching programme together. No coaching should be entered into without the reason being commonly understood. Some clients are referred to coaching by their sponsors, mostly their managers, or parents. However, the coaching programme is always about the client (coachee). It is the client that must formulate the coaching theme, goals, and objectives, assisted by the coach. The coach's main role is to facilitate the formulation process and support the coaching agenda. The coaching agenda belongs to the client.
The much deeper reason for entering into coaching is referred to as the rationale for coaching. This answers the question: what are those issues if we do not embark on coaching would become hindrances to individual and/or organizational development and growth? It is a bigger purpose for coaching intervention.

4. About COMETSA Agencies
Cometsa Development Agencies are the Socio-Economic
Development Arms of Cometsa Group. They are, however,
independent and have their own Boards of Directors. The
administration is performed on a fee basis by Cometsa Shared
Services.
Each Agency produces its own set of financial reports. These financial
reports are not consolidated into the Cometsa Group, since the
agencies are separately registered companies (NPCs). The
agencies implement and/or support their projects in the
communities, and sometimes collaborate with each other.
Most of the projects are funded by independent individual and/or
organization donors who identified COMETSA as a preferred
implementing organization. The agencies also identify and
implement community development projects on behalf of the
Corporate Social Investment units of companies.

R = Recreation. At Cometsa we believe in the slogan “Body, Mind and Soul”. That
means that a healthy mind in a healthy body will results in a healthy soul.
E = Entertainment (incl. Music). We develop talent in modern, traditional, and
global entertainment and music.
L = Leisure. Our country, South Africa, has got the best weather in the world. As a
result the leisure industry holds great future for the country.
E = Education. Education is the central part of our programmes. We have realized
that the level of literacy in our country is not sufficient to improve our
competitiveness level in the world. It cannot be ignored.

COMETSA History: From Human Capital Development through
football to comprehensive Socio-Economic Agencies
1988: On the 1st May 1988 Sam left for the Federal Republic of
Germany to undergo Business Management Training. During his
stay in Frankfurt am Main, he played amateur soccer for SC
Goldstein Frankfurt. This is the club after which his football club, 1.
FC Cometsa Goldstones 1997 is named (Goldstones = Goldstein).
He returned to South Africa on the 31st October 1989.
1990: On the 22nd September 1990 Sam returned to the Federal
Republic of Germany under Siemens AG Corporate Management
Training Programme. He was again stationed at Cologne. He
immediately rejoined SC Goldstein (Frankfurt am Main), while based
in Cologne. He was later transferred from SC Goldstein Frankfurt to
Köln Neubrueck FC.

10. History
1994: At the beginning of the South African Soccer season (then
January - December) Sam rejoined Wits University FC (as a Public
Relations Officer). During this year Sam continued working for
Siemens Ltd at the same time.
1995: Sam resigned from Wits University FC to focus on his career at
Siemens Ltd and later at ABSA Bank.
1997: On the 1st August 1997 1.FC Cometsa Goldstones 1997 (a
football club) is launched. The 1st of August is celebrated as the
anniversary date of Cometsa.
1998: Project 2002 (from 1998 to 2002) was launched and referred to
as Development Phase. We initially introduced Saturday classes in
Sports Coaching, administration, management and leadership.

2000: The Introduction Phase (2002 – 2007) was launched, to take the
organization to a ten year landmark.
2001: On the 7th March 2001 Cometsa Sports Development Agency is
registered as an Association Incorporated under Section 21.
2006: The launch of Cometsa website, www.cometsa.co.za ; and
Cometsa “RELEASE” Concept. Forms exchange partnership with
SV Gehlerte.V., football club in Rheinland-Pfalz (Germany)

2007: Cometsa Friends & Supporters Club, a non-profit organization,
and Cometsa Mafrika Band are formed. Cometsa Mafrika Music
Studio is built. Cometsa is ten years old (1st August 2007).
2008: Tsima Cometsa Management CC t/a Cometsa Human Capital
Investments, and Cometsa Professional Management Services are
launched.

Regional Human Resources Director: Sub-Sahara Africa at Motorola
SA (Pty) Ltd, reporting into the Middle East Africa Region in Dubai.
He is the former Manager: Centre of Expertise-Group Diversity
Management at Sasol Group, responsible for Employment Equity,
Global Diversity & Inclusion, Black Economic Empowerment (from
HR perspective), Accelerated Leadership Development Programme
(ALDP), and Sasol HIV/Aids Response Programme (SHARP).
Before joining Sasol, on the 1st December 2002, Sam was with ABSA
Group for seven years (10/1995-11/2002) as the Group Consultant:
Employment Equity.

for two years, and Siemens Ltd (Johannesburg, South Africa) as

background after training and working in Germany over four years
(1988 – 1992).
