Introduction
Professional sporting clubs throughout the world recognise that sport has a
"power" and that this "power" can be used to inspire, to educate and to
motivate thousands of individuals through the clubs community programmes.
In Ghana the vast majority of sporting clubs have abandoned this form of
programmes under which their community activities are supposed to take
place.
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, Forsports Management Limited
through its Charity, ForSports Foundation wants to be involved with the
community to ensure that it supports and encouraged the importance of this
programmes to have impact on the communities.
These programmes are no longer focused just on grassroots sport but on six
different areas; Education, Health, Environment, Community Cohesion,
Grassroots Sport and Amateur Sports Club Development. All these
programmes can be easily reproduced across sports and be utilised in
Ghana.
Project
The ForSports Foundation is a registered charity established by ForSports
Management Limited as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility to help
the community use sports for social development, cohesion and change.
The foundation will establish residential centre within Sunayani which will not
only provide somewhere to live but also academic and vocational
education to increase their opportunities and change their outlook and
perspectives.
The pride this creates within the community is very evident: the young people
feel they are contributing to a better environment, rather than simply being
provided for.
We will also encourage sporting prowess, by providing facilities and coaches
for the children. The charity is founded on the principle that health and fitness
also brings discipline, ambition, healthy competitiveness and reward - as well
as opportunities to play and enjoy the camaraderie of team sport, which
many of them have missed out on.
Therefore, as the charity establishes itself financially, we will invest heavily in
the provision of sports equipment, allowing the children to truly benefit from
the upside sporting activity brings.
By encouraging this self-help attitude and instilling confidence, pride and self-
belief in the teenagers that stay in the centres, we believe we will enable our
residents to move forward successfully as adults, well-integrated into society,
when they leave our homes.
Project Details
Health
• "Health Kicks Programme" - A programme which encourages
males who are 35 years and over to have a health check.
• "A day in the life of a Football Player" - A healthy lifestyle
programme for school children.
Social Cohesion
• "Community Cohesion Programme" - Bringing different
communities together to take part in sporting activities.
• "Heart Beat" Programme in Sunyani - A programme that tackles
anti social behaviour in Primary and Junior High School children.
Education
• "Study Support Centers’" - Creating a classroom at Sunyani
Coronation Park to provide an alternative working environment
for the children.
• "Financial Capability" Programmes - Utilizing the coronation park
and its operations to provide "hands on" experience, teaching
basic financial capability skills.
• "Enterprise Programmes"- Using match day experience at
Coronation Park to develop an understanding of enterprise.
The Environment
• "Sustainable Energy Partnership" - Developing a pathway in
schools to educate the pupils about sustainable energy and how
the school can become an energy efficient building.
• "Carbon Neutral Programme" - Working with schools in Sunyani
and schools in the “Developed World” to ensure that pupils
understand the importance of sustainable energy and the
importance of reducing the Developing World's CO2 production.
Residential Academy and Grass Roots Football Development
• ForSports Foundation believes that football is a powerful tool for social
change and therefore the prospects of using football to develop and
shape the life of homeless and street children is very paramount. We
believe that providing the kids with all the required training without
offering them where they will lay their heads in the night and what is on
the table for dinner, all our efforts will be meaningless after every
training session. Our Residential Academy addresses these basic
necessities in life.
The project is run mainly on voluntary basis since we do not have
enough funds to see through our ideas that over the short period of our
operation and existence have registered so many success stories
despite the very limited and dire financial situation we operate with.
We believe that if the necessary resources (financial and human
especially) needed for the success of this project were made
available, then we would not only make a huge contribution in the
area of development from within from us and for us but also project the
idea of how sports and football can be effective channels for
sustainable and purposeful development. We will then be able to
reach out to many children and the youth who are not able to benefit
from our laudable initiatives due to the lack of resources. This could
serve as a source for training multipliers and establishing different forms
of cooperation with varied partners (individuals, government and non
government organisations).
With our desire to see the success of Grass Roots Football
Development, we have team up with the Sunyani Municipal Juvenile
Association to sponsor the U12 and U14 Colts league involving 18 clubs
from each category every year. As part of the sponsorship, we provide
the clubs football kits and equipments, training for the coaches,
financial sponsorship etc.
Amateur Sports Club Development
• In conjunction with the Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association, we
help the Division Two and Three Football Clubs in Brong Ahafo Region
by offering training to their Coaches and also run seminars on Football
Management for their Administrators.
