Purpose of Higher education
institutions
 Produce graduates who are socially and emotionally resilient, with
inclusive approach to personal and professional life turn out to be
fully participating and contributing members of society.
Achieved through:
 quality and innovative Higher Education delivery reform and enabling
systems
Higher Education’s social and practical value is related to the
link between itself and social needs, through producing
graduates with the skills required by the labour market as well
as the knowledge and skills required to meet societal and
developmental challenges (Council of Higher Education, 2001).
 To review the role of curriculum
 Derive its aims and content from an analysis of the society it is
designed to serve and provide programmes that are relevant to
meeting these needs.
 Develop critical consciousness in the graduates
Opportune time for the HE sector
At University of Zambia- GradZup
 graduates rising above their circumstances, nurturing
resilience through wellness, social justice, “social
immunity” , receiving a hand-up through the curriculum to
be well-rounded graduates.
