On December 25th I asked my
facebook friends to !
I was being lethargic! And needed
some activity to feel good!
And till today I am receiving
challenges continuously! 
I am quiet
content, Now!

And I’ll try to
take up all of
the Challenges!
Because, Its
Fun! 
The topic that really
excited me was to
explain,
“Professionalism!”
We hear this term
all the time!
The HR Dept. demands it!
We try to portray it!
But unfortunately, it isn’t
explained on Wikipedia! 
Yes, “professionalism” lacks
a Wikipedia article. This
really ticked me off!
Why a topic discussed so
much!
Sought after a lot, is so
“vague!” 
So today I am going to utilize all my
super duper Professional powers and
try my level best to explain;
What Professionalism is!
And What it isn’t!
Merraim-Webster defines
Professionalism as : the skill, good
judgment, and polite behavior that
is expected from a person
trained to do a job
For me it is a set of skills, one
learns and adopts from his/her
on-the-job training.
And it is the Corporate level
equivalent of Life Skills.
I have listed 6 Indicators of
Professionalism!
And 6 Indicators of
Unprofessionalism!
By following the indicators of
Professionalism you will thrive!
And by avoiding the indicators of
Unprofessionalism you will thrive
exponentially! 
The 6 Indicators of
Professionalism
are:
# 1- Honesty
# 1- Honesty
Want the exact figures? Need to
know what is happening on
ground? Ask a Professional! A
True professional will tell you the
truth!
# 1- Honesty
You can quote a professional person,
because he speaks the truth and by
truth I mean he/she will also tell you
that he/she doesn’t Know.
# 1- Honesty
Instead of lying, or making a wild
guess! He/ She will save you and
himself/herself from the
embarrassment! Every time!
# 2- Accountability
#2- Accountability
A professional personal can be
audited, he knows and can give a
minute to minute detail of an
event.
#2- Accountability
He/ She knows and can explain how
much monetary, emotional and
personal capital is invested in a cause
or a project. And how much more
would be needed!
# 3- Responsibility

A professional always completes his
tasks and then rechecks them too. Yes
professionals miss targets, but they
accept their mistake, accept the
reprimand and fix the issue too.

They are identified by their ability
of coming up with contingency
plans! They don’t excuse!
They fix the Fuse!
# 4- Eloquence

Professionals are good
communicators, they do explain
what is wrong and how to avoid
the problem or fix the issue.
#4- Eloquence
They try their level best to reduce
any miscommunication and always get
the feedback to assure that the
message is communicated and
understood properly.
# 5- Self-Awareness
#5- Self-Awareness
Professionals know why they
have entered a certain job,
occupation or profession. They
are intrinsically motivated!
#5- Self-Awareness
It is their desire to utilize their
skills and competencies to earn
for a living. Or a desire to learn
new skills that motivates them.
# 6- Neat, Clean and Sharp
#6- Neat, Clean and Sharp
A suit and tie isn’t required in every
job, in fact in hot regions like,
Pakistan, India and Bangladesh a suit
can ruin your day during the hot days.
#6- Neat, Clean and Sharp
A professional always dresses decently,
whether it is Western Attire or Eastern.
What really matters are properly
washed, ironed and tailored clothes. And
perfectly maintained hygiene!
The 6 Indicators of
Unprofessionalism
are:
# 1- Lying
#1- Lying
An unprofessional person will lie
frequently. He/ She would call it
face saving but it doesn’t saves
faces.
#1- Lying
It uncovers their inability to
speak the truth and take the toll
of the mistakes they have made.
# 2- Mischievousness
#2- Mischievousness
It is known as “Street
Smartness!” An unprofessional
person will give you wrong
deadlines, just to win your trust.

person’s efforts.
He/ She will quote wrong prices and/or
fares and would suddenly ask for the
higher price after the completion of a
deal.
# 3- Ranting
#3- Ranting
An unprofessional person rants!
They claim that everything is
possible for them! Nothing could
stop them! They are highly
experienced!

Making absurd claims destroys
projects and organizations. Observe
the false claims! Identify and avoid
the Ranters!
# 4- Recklessness
#4- Recklessness
A unprofessional person never accepts
his/ her responsibility. He/ She will blame
it on his/ her colleagues, seniors, juniors,
the weather, climate, the pet dog.
Everyone will be blamed except himself!
# 5- Extrinsically motivated
#5- Extrinsically motivated
It is the money that matters. Pay the
money and watch my dance (even though I
know I can’t dance). Let the money flow and
observe how I invest (waste) it!
#5- Extrinsically motivated
An unprofessional person jumps in every
opportunity regardless of the
consequences, doing so could build one’s
experience but can ruin one’s career path
and CV.
#5- Extrinsically motivated
They end up with a lot of experience of
entry level jobs in totally unconnected
businesses. They end up with enough bread
and butter to survive but no increments
and stark chances of career growth.
# 6- Dull, Dirty and Rough
#6- Dull, Dirty and Rough
They will wear three-piece suits.
But, un-ironed. They will sport a
beard but will not maintain it.
#6- Dull, Dirty and Rough
They may have white teeth but a smelly
breath.
Unprofessional people can be identified by
their personal hygiene, because they
don’t give a damn about it.
So let’s do a recap!
Professionalism is a
very sought after
concept!
It is what that gets
people promoted! And
can get them Fired too!
A professional person is:
Honest, Accountable,
Responsible, Eloquent, Self-
Aware & Maintains personal
Hygiene.
Whereas an Unprofessional
person : Lies,
Acts Mischievously, Rants, Is
Reckless, Extrinsically motivated
and doesn’t cares about personal
hygiene.
Few last thoughts!
Professionalism is more or less
embedded in the organizations’
culture.
The definition varies from industry to
industry!
Few last thoughts!
My insight is based around the
services sector!
If you disagree with me! Then come up
with your own version!
Few last thoughts!
Remember! Google knows only what
we tell him!
Disagree with me! Generate Notions!
Defend them! That’s the only way we
can create a Body of Knowledge! 
