2. INTRODUCTION
It is defined as planning , implementation and control of
industrial production process to ensure smooth and
efficient operation. Production management techniques
are used in both manufacturing and service industries .
Simply production management is process of planning ,
organizing , directing and controlling the activities of
production function .

3. CONCEPT OF PRODUCTION
Production is defind as “the step by step conversion of
one form of material into another form through
chemical or mechanical process to create or enhance the
utility of product to the user .”
Thus production is a value addition process . At each
stage of processing there will be value addition .
Production is a process by which goods and services are
created .

4. OBJECTIVES OF
PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
The objectives of production management is to produce goods
services of right quality and quantity at the right time and right
manufacturing cost.
RIGHT QUALITY : The quality of product is established based upon the
customer needs. The right quality is not necessarily best quality. It is
determined by the cost of the product and the technical
characteristics as suited to the specific requirements.

5. RIGHT QUANTITY : The manufacturing organization should produce the product in
right numbers .
RIGHT TIME :TIMELINESS of delivery is one of the important parameter to judge
the effectiveness of production department . So the production department has to
make the optimal utilization of input resources to achieve its objective .
RIGHT MANUFACTURING COST : Manufacturing costs are established before the
product is actually manufactured .

7. PROCESS PLANINING
Processes are the essence of operation management .
They transform input into output
Planning in which condition necessary from transforming material into one state to
another are determined .
It determines how a work is to be done .
It converts design into workable instructions for manufacture , along with associated decisions on
component purchase or fabrication and process and equipment selection .
In a manufacturing setting , this aspect of planning also includes establishing the
general sequence of step that begin with acquisition of material and end with the
creation of a finished product.

CONTINUOUS PRODUCTION :They are used for very high
volume commodity product .
