2. Week 1 Production
For the first week of production I began by getting my images off the internet
and turning them into cartoon versions of themselves which you can see on the
left hand side which one is a start of one and the other Is a completely finished
one, I will be making many for of these until I have enough to completely fill my
fanzine, I have chosen artists who I listen to and are part of the rap/SoundCloud
rap genre I go the idea to change them into cartoons from this video
"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6IKOc_4sXE” which told me in depth to
do which was a real help because I didn’t really know how to use the pen tool
before this, and It is a skill I want improve on throughout this year and
something which could separate me from the crowd. Also this week I started to
find some fonts which I wanted to work with each different page because I didn’t
want the same boring font throughout the fanzine I wanted each page to have a
different font even if they came from the same style which would be either a
pencil look to it or pen, which was the main reason which I picked very simple
fonts. Something else about the cartoon drawings would have to be that they
are all different in their own way because not a single one is identical because
depending on how much detail I could get in the real life picture would change
the amount of detail which I could use for my cartoons because some of them
have tattoos which are not very easy to see so I had use my imagination for
some of them because there where no HD pictures of them online.
3. Week 2 Production
The start of this week I began by finishing off all of my cartoon designs which
needed to be done otherwise I couldn’t of finished my entire fanzine, once I
had finished of making the cartoon drawings on Photoshop I proceeded to
make my front cover which In the beginning I was planning on doing the same
kind of effect but I realized that I think it would be too much and would make it
look out of place because I wanted to make sure that I had some difference
through out the fanzine so even though it is simple I took an image of X off the
internet and made it look as if he is wearing a mask of his own face and then I
decided to add the oil effect through the filter gallery which I think look very
good because it doesn’t look out of place and also I think this one out of all of
my work stands out the most and as the more simplistic look to it, and next
week I will make the back to it which will be a similar style in the way I might
use the same filter or same effect on the person. The final thing which I made
this week would be the first couple of double page spreads for my fanzine
which I think have come along very well because I have gone for a pencil and
paper look to it because I have taken an image off the internet of crumple
paper because I wanted to make it look like it was notes on a piece of paper.
Next week I will completely finish off my fanzine with all of the DPS,s and the
back cover to it which is all I need to do and I might also get a picture of the
person who I interviewed for my questions.
4. Week 3 Production
For my final week of production I completely finished it by the second day of the last
week, this week I finally finished off making each page design and I think that they came
out very nice in my own opinion and they are all different but they have the same theme
running through out all of them which is the pen and pencil style of a piece of paper
because I wanted to make it look like someone is making notes on them, With these
pages there are lots of doodles through out which I didn't personally make myself but I
went on the internet and found brushes which went with my style and I decided to use
them because they are very good, I think that these doodles made my work a lot better
because I filled empty gaps which I didn't know what to put there. After I had completed
my pages I designed my back cover which I think works very well even though it is really
simple as I chose a black background with white text and images I used the brush yet
again to make the earphones and put the name of both myself and the fanzine. After I
had completed all of the work I proceeded to put onto InDesign which was a pain as I
had to put the pages in the right order but once I printed it I realized that the text
wouldn't work because there was not enough space so I had to go back and make a gap
down the middle so that the text would look like it was suppose to go with each other
and then I exported it and printed it, and I really like the outcome of my first fanzine
which I have made although I didn't print at the size which I wanted which was A5 and it
printed as an A4. I don’t think that there are many improvements which I could make
besides maybe putting more brushes in so that I use up more of that empty space which
I have on select few pages besides that I think it is very good.
