word “ Probing Questioning have two
words
1) Probe
2) Question
The literally meaning of probe is to
“search out, to examine , to inquiry or
to seek further information”.
and the literally meaning of question
is “ A sentence or phrase that used to
find out the information from others”
Hence , in probing questioning a
person used a series of questions for
getting information from the others.
NOTE: Questions are based on Cognitive
level that is from lower to higher

Questioning is an Art which is used by teachers in their classroom for various
purposes. Some times they used questioning to check student’s understanding on
topic while in some cases they used questioning to link their teaching points.
As we know that classroom teaching is based on specific objectives. Therefor each
and every questions that are asked by a teacher in classroom are based on certain
objectives. Teacher always expect correct response/answer from students. But it is
not possible to get correct response from students every time .
There is a different possibilities to get different responses from students. Students
may give correct, partial correct, wrong or no response on a asked question.
When teacher get wrong answer, no response or partial correct answer from
students then in these cases teacher used a series of questions for getting right
information from them. For this teacher used various techniques that help students
to recall right information.

े मलए सवाल िरते है। जैसा कि हम जानते हैं कि िक्षा मशक्षण ववमशष्ट उद्िेश्यों
पर आधाररत है। िक्षा में मशक्षि द्वारा पूछे जाने वाले प्रत्येि प्रश्न किसी ना किसी उद्िेश्य
पर आधाररत होते हैं। मशक्षि हमेशा छात्रों से सही प्रनतकिया / उत्तर िी उम्मीि िरते हैं।
लेकिन हर बार छात्रों से सही प्रनतकिया प्राप्त िरना सिंभव नहीिं है। एि ही प्रश्न से सिंबब्न्धत
मशक्षि िो ववद्याचर्थयों अलग अलग प्रनतकियाएाँ प्राप्त होने िी सिंभावने है । छात्र पूछे गए
प्रश्न पर सही, आिंमशि सही, गलत या िोई प्रनतकिया नहीिं िेते हैं। जब मशक्षि िो
ववद्याचर्थयों से गलत उत्तर ममलता है या िोई प्रनतकिया नहीिं ममलती है या आिंमशि सही जवाब
ममलता है, तब इन मामलों में मशक्षि ववद्याचर्थयों से सही जानिारी प्राप्त िरने ि
े मलए प्रश्नों
िी एि श्ररिंखला िा उपयोग िरते है। इसि
े मलए मशक्षि ववमभन्न तिनीि िा उपयोग िरते
है ,जो ववद्याचर्थयों िो सही जानिारी िो याि िरने या प्रत्यास्मरण िरने में मिि िरते हैं।
Definition of Probing Questioning
 Singh A. and Sharma R. D. (1982) “ Skill of obtaining correct
response from the students by using different techniques is known
as skill of probing questioning.”

प्राप्त िरने ि

 Jangira M.K. and Singh A. (1982) “ The skill of probing
questioning is going deep into pupils responses through step by
step questioning with a view to eliciting the criterion response.”
जिंगीरम एविं शसिंह (1982) “ अनुशीनल प्रश्न िौशल वह है ब्जसमे छत्रों िी अनुकिया पर
िम से प्रश्न पूछिर गहराई ति पहुाँिा जाता है ब्जससे छात्र से ननधाथररत उत्तर प्राप्त किया

 Shrivastav S., Singh T. and Rai K. (1978) “ Questions that urge students to
think and to reach in-depth into various aspects of problems are called probing
questioning. The technique of asking probing questions is known as skill of
probing questioning.”

This component is used by teacher when he get wrong answer or no response or dose not get
appropriate answer from students. By using this component teacher asked series of questions which
provide cues or hint to students in order to arrive them at the expected answer.

This component is used by teacher when he get incomplete answer, short answer or poorly organized answer
from students. This is also used in a condition when teacher feels that their student’s response is based on
guessing .In all cases students do not give wrong answer but their answer is not according to the parameter set by
teachers. There fore, teacher dose not add any information from his side but use seeking further information
component to get additional information from students.
जब मशक्षि िो पूछे गए प्रश्न िा ववद्याचर्थयों द्वारा आधा उत्तर ,अव्यवब्स्र्त उत्तर या लघु उत्तर प्राप्त होता है तब इस
घटि िा उपयोग किया जाता है । िभी िभी मशक्षि िो यह आभास होता है कि ववद्यार्ी अनुमान/अिंिाजन लगािर
प्रश्न िा सही उत्तर िे रहा है तब, इस पररब्स्र्नत मे भी ववद्यार्ी ि

Refocusing ( पुनः क

This component is used by teacher when he get completely right answer from students. Here he get answers according
to the parameter set by him. Through this component teacher tries to focus student’s towards the parallel issues or
situations. Refocusing helps to increase divergent, convergent, creative and critical thinking among students. The
questions may related to understanding, application, analysis or higher order level.

When a teacher get correct answer from the students then to check his understanding on the concept
teacher asks high order questions. Questions may start from “How” and “Why” words. These type of
questions increase critical awareness among students. Here students give justification in their response

This component is used by teacher in two conditions. First when he did not get any response, wrong answer, or
incomplete answer from student even after asking many questions then in this condition teacher asks same question
to other student. Second condition is when there is more than one answer to a single question .
इस घटि िा उपयोग मशक्षि द्वारा िो पररब्स्र्नतयों मे किया जाता है । पहला जब मशक्षि िो उसि
े द्वारा पूछे गए प्रश्नों
िा िोई उत्तर, गलत उत्तर या आधा अधूरा उत्तर प्राप्त होता है, तब वही प्रश्न िूसरे ववद्याचर्थयों से पूछा जाता है । िूसरा जब
मशक्षि द्वारा पूछे गए प्रश्न िा एि से ज्यािा उत्तर होते है तब उस पररब्स्र्नत मे भी मशक्षि िूसरे ववद्याचर्थयों से प्रश्न

• Structural and functional unit of life.

• Cell have genetic information.

As we can see that in a first example student is unable to give any response for each questions that are asked
by teacher then in this condition teacher use redirect component and ask same question to other student.
पहले उिाहरण मे हमने िेखा िी ववद्यार्ी मशक्षि द्वारा पूछे गए प्रत्येि प्रश्न िा उत्तर िेने मे असमर्थ र्ा इसमलए
पुनः प्रेषण िा उपयोग िर वही प्रश्न िूसरे ववद्यार्ी से पूछा गया ।
Example 2:- when there are more than one response for a single question.

Precaution while framing question
प्रश्नों िी सिंरिना ि
े समय रखने वाली सावधाननयााँ
• Teacher should ask direct questions.
मशक्षि िो सीधे प्रश्न पूछना िादहए।
• Do not ask such type of questions which can be answered in “Yes” and “No”.
ऐसे प्रश्न न पूछें ब्जनिा उत्तर "हािं" और "नहीिं" में दिया जा सि
े ।
• Do not ask composite questions.
समग्र प्रश्न नहीिं पूछना िादहए ।
• Do not ask rhetorical question .
अलिंिाररि प्रश्न नहीिं पूछना िादहए ।
• Do not ask such type of questions which answer is hidden or inbuilt in question.
ऐसे प्रश्न नहीिं पूछना िादहए ब्जसिा उत्तर प्रश्न मे ही छ
ु पा हो ।

What is prokaryotic cell? Prokaryotic cell have cell wall that covers cell
membrane. Cell filled with matrix called cytoplasm.
There is no well defined nucleus present in it hence,
genetic material basically naked and float in
cytoplasm. It dose not have other cell organelles

Meaning of Probing Questioning Probe Question Probing Questionin g As we can see in the diagram that the word “ Probing Questioning have two words 1) Probe 2) Question The literally meaning of probe is to “search out, to examine , to inquiry or to seek further information”. and the literally meaning of question is “ A sentence or phrase that used to find out the information from others” Hence , in probing questioning a person used a series of questions for getting information from the others. NOTE: Questions are based on Cognitive level that is from lower to higher order
  • 3. अनुशीलन प्रश्न का अर्ध अनुिीलन प्रश्न अनुिीलन प्रश्न जैसा कि दिये गए चित्र मे िेखा जा सिता है कि अनुशीलन प्रश्न िौशल िो शब्िों से ममलिर बना है – 1) अनुशीलन 2) प्रश्न अनुशीलन शब्ि िा शाब्ब्िि अर्थ है “ मनन िरना , चििंतन िरना, गहराई से खोजना, जािंि पड़ताल िरना आदि “ । प्रश्न वाक्य/वाक्यों िा वह समूह है ब्जसि े माध्यम से व्यब्क्त ववशेष अन्य वयब्क्तयों से जानिारी प्राप्त िरने ि े मलए उपयोग िरता है । अतः अनुशीलन प्रश्न ि े अिंतगथत व्यब्क्त प्रश्नों िी श्रिंखला िा उपयोग िर अन्य व्यब्क्तयों से जानिारी एित्रत्रत/ प्राप्त िरने िा प्रयत्न िरता है । नोट:- प्रश्न िी सिंरिना सिंज्ञानात्मि पक्ष ि े सभी स्तरों ( ननम्न से उच्ि स्तरों )पर धाररत होती है ।
  • 4. Meaning continue… Questioning is an Art which is used by teachers in their classroom for various purposes. Some times they used questioning to check student’s understanding on topic while in some cases they used questioning to link their teaching points. As we know that classroom teaching is based on specific objectives. Therefor each and every questions that are asked by a teacher in classroom are based on certain objectives. Teacher always expect correct response/answer from students. But it is not possible to get correct response from students every time . There is a different possibilities to get different responses from students. Students may give correct, partial correct, wrong or no response on a asked question. When teacher get wrong answer, no response or partial correct answer from students then in these cases teacher used a series of questions for getting right information from them. For this teacher used various techniques that help students to recall right information.

Meaning continue… प्रश्न पूछना एि िला है, ब्जसिा उपयोग मशक्षि अपनी िक्षा में ववमभन्न उद्िेश्यों ि े मलए िरते हैं। िई बार वे ववषय पर छात्र िी समझ िी जााँि िरने ि े मलए प्रश्न िरते है । जबकि ि ु छ मामलों में वे वविासनात्मि प्रश्न ि े माध्यम से एि मशक्षण त्रबिंिु िो िूसरे मशक्षण त्रबिंिु से जोड़ने ि े मलए सवाल िरते है। जैसा कि हम जानते हैं कि िक्षा मशक्षण ववमशष्ट उद्िेश्यों पर आधाररत है। िक्षा में मशक्षि द्वारा पूछे जाने वाले प्रत्येि प्रश्न किसी ना किसी उद्िेश्य पर आधाररत होते हैं। मशक्षि हमेशा छात्रों से सही प्रनतकिया / उत्तर िी उम्मीि िरते हैं। लेकिन हर बार छात्रों से सही प्रनतकिया प्राप्त िरना सिंभव नहीिं है। एि ही प्रश्न से सिंबब्न्धत मशक्षि िो ववद्याचर्थयों अलग अलग प्रनतकियाएाँ प्राप्त होने िी सिंभावने है । छात्र पूछे गए प्रश्न पर सही, आिंमशि सही, गलत या िोई प्रनतकिया नहीिं िेते हैं। जब मशक्षि िो ववद्याचर्थयों से गलत उत्तर ममलता है या िोई प्रनतकिया नहीिं ममलती है या आिंमशि सही जवाब ममलता है, तब इन मामलों में मशक्षि ववद्याचर्थयों से सही जानिारी प्राप्त िरने ि े मलए प्रश्नों िी एि श्ररिंखला िा उपयोग िरते है। इसि े मलए मशक्षि ववमभन्न तिनीि िा उपयोग िरते है ,जो ववद्याचर्थयों िो सही जानिारी िो याि िरने या प्रत्यास्मरण िरने में मिि िरते हैं।

(1982) “ Skill of obtaining correct response from the students by using different techniques is known as skill of probing questioning.” शसिंह एविं िममा आर. डी. (1982)” ववमभन्न तिनीिों िा प्रयोग िर ववद्याचर्थयों से सही उत्तर प्राप्त िरने ि े िौशल िो अनुशीलन प्रश्न िौशल िहते है ।”  Jangira M.K. and Singh A. (1982) “ The skill of probing questioning is going deep into pupils responses through step by step questioning with a view to eliciting the criterion response.” जिंगीरम एविं शसिंह (1982) “ अनुशीनल प्रश्न िौशल वह है ब्जसमे छत्रों िी अनुकिया पर िम से प्रश्न पूछिर गहराई ति पहुाँिा जाता है ब्जससे छात्र से ननधाथररत उत्तर प्राप्त किया जा सि े ।

The technique of asking probing questions is known as skill of probing questioning.” श्रीवमस्तव एस., शसिंह टी. व रमय क े . (1978) “ ऐसे प्रश्न जो छात्रों िो समस्या ि े ववमभन्न पहलुओ पर सोिने एविं गहराई ति पहुाँिने ि े मलए बाध्य िरते है , अनुशीलन प्रश्न िहलाते है । अनुशीलन प्रश्न पूछने िी तिनीि िो ही अनुशीलन प्रश्न िौशल िहते है ।” Definition of Probing Questioning

  • 10. Prompting (अनुबोधक/सिंक े त देनम) This component is used by teacher when he get wrong answer or no response or dose not get appropriate answer from students.   • 11. Seeking Further Information(ववस्तृत सूचनम प्रमप्तत) This component is used by teacher when he get incomplete answer, short answer or poorly organized answer from students. This is also used in a condition when teacher feels that their student’s response is based on guessing .In all cases students do not give wrong answer but their answer is not according to the parameter set by teachers. Through this component teacher tries to focus student’s towards the parallel issues or situations. Refocusing helps to increase divergent, convergent, creative and critical thinking among students.
