1) A prime number is a number that has exactly two factors: itself and 1. For example, 7 is prime because the only numbers that divide into it are 1 and 7. 2) A composite number has more than two factors. For example, 8 has four factors: 1, 2, 4, and 8. 3) One is neither a prime nor composite number. It only has one factor, which is itself.
