The document discusses the evolution of media and public relations from the 15th century printing press to modern social media. It argues that PR must embrace social media to stay relevant, as it allows for instant interaction with consumers at low cost. Several examples are given of companies successfully using social media for PR purposes, including Barack Obama's pioneering political social media strategy. Risks of not adopting social media include losing control of brand messaging and falling behind competitors.

Friends, a zombie apocalypse is upon us: an onslaught of new mobile devices, platforms, and screen sizes, hordes of them descending every day. We're outmatched. There aren't enough designers and developers to battle every platform. There aren't enough editors and writers to populate every screen size. Defeating the zombies will require flexibility and stamina—in our content. We'll have to separate our content from its form, so it can adapt appropriately to different contexts and constraints. We'll have to change our production workflow so we're not just shoveling content from one output to another. And we'll have to enhance our content management tools and interfaces so they're ready for the future. Surviving the zombie apocalypse is possible. In this talk Karen will explain how: by developing a content strategy for mobile.

How is your organization competing to win, in a world where access to anyone or anything is constantly available and automatically recommended? Join Brian Vellmure, Principal/Founder of Innovantage LLC to better understand how you can help your organization and communities win—win membership, win engagement, and win your users’ time, energy and attention. Assuming the current trajectory, we soon will have an interconnected, global network of people, machines, robots, appliances, cameras, smartphones and devices we have not even conceived yet. A faster and richly connected Internet continues to outpace our individual comprehension of how to leverage new technology—but will we remain captive to an old way of thinking? In a networked economy, the concept of competing and winning may be outdated. Or perhaps it’s simply the methods, measurements and outcomes that have become old-fashioned. The better question may be: How will you continually create value in a constantly evolving world?
Uncle Sam Wants You (To Optimize Your Content For Mobile)Karen McGrane
President Obama recently directed all government agencies to optimize their content for mobile, saying "Americans deserve a government that works for them anytime, anywhere, and on any device." Government has a responsibility to make its content available to all Americans equally. What about your organization? If the government has mandated its agencies to develop a content strategy for mobile, isn't it time you did too?
In this session, Karen will discuss why it's important to think holistically about publishing your content in whatever channel or device your customer wants to consume it — and what the risks are in not making content accessible to mobile users. Already convinced it's important? She'll also explain how to get started with your mobile content strategy, defining what you want to publish, what the relationship should be between your mobile and desktop site, and how your editorial workflow and content management tools need to evolve.

A Career in Public Relations and the Importance of Social Media in the PR FieldLeigh-Anne Lawrence
Social media plays a crucial role in modern PR. This presentation, intended for students interested in PR careers, explains what public relations is, the importance of new media in the PR industry, and what students can do to prepare for a job in the PR field.

PR used to be about bombarding the media with your pitches and press releases. You had to beg the media to write about you to communicate with your customers. But today, your customers are going to the Internet to learn about you and your products directly. Blogs, online news releases, social media, and other forms of web content give companies the opportunity to communicate with buyers directly. View this presentation to learn how to leverage the Internet and social media to make your PR program more effective.

Using social media tools to listen to publics: European Refugee CrisisStephen Waddington
This is a summary of my deck from the PRmoment Future PR Toolkit event in London sponsored by Prime Research.
The seminar explored how public relations practitioners are using tools to do a better job.
I used tools to see if I could better understand the European Refugee crisis.
My thesis was that our view of the humanitarian disaster is biased by politicians.
Half a day's work exploring networks and geotagged images surfaced first and second person stories from across the continent of refugees.
The International Organisation of Migration reports that 473,887 had arrived in Europe by sea so far in 2015. The European Union last week agreed quotas for 120,000 people.
You don't need tools to tell you that the numbers don't add up.
Getting ahead and getting hired in social media & digitalStephen Waddington
This deck was originally created for a CIPR Summer Social workshop on personal reputation.
It looks at how you audit your online reputation, create profiles on LinkedIn and Twitter, build networks and publish content. There were case studies from people that have used social media to build their personal profile and secure jobs and a discussion about dealing with less favourable content.

A personal brand exploration presentation summarizes an individual's unique qualities and goals, covering strengths, values, passions, and target audience. It helps individuals understand what makes them stand out, their desired image, and how they aim to achieve it.
Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).
