Let’s Power the Analytics and 3D to the Web Based Military Geo-Portal using F...SANGHEE SHIN
In this talk, I introduced the web based military geo-portal system which was implemented on top of numerous open source projects such as PostGIS, GeoServer, Cesium, mago3D, OpenGXT. This military geo-portal system provides integrated search, layer control, satellite image retrieval, spatial terrain analysis, reading coordinates, and map notes functionalities to the military officers through intranet. This system is basically a web based 3D GIS utilizing mago3D and can be switched to 2D. This system utilizes the OGC WPS Web Processing Service for the analysis on web environment. As a result of this system implementation, military officers can access the huge amount of geospatial data and analysis functions on a web environment without installing additional software.
Integrating Sanitary Televising Data with Utility GIS DataMatt Eitrem
In 2011-12 the City of Ashland Public Works department invested in televising trouble spots and areas of concern of their sanitary collection system. In two years about 22% of the City’s sanitary lines and manholes were comprehensively inventoried. The City selected a contractor to inventory and televise its sanitary system to comply with NASSCO standards and provide a fully digital inventory dataset that included video, reports, and tabular data of inspections. By leveraging the City’s current GIS inventory of is sanitary infrastructure, the projects were able to be completed on time, in budget, and performed accurately. The results were able to be quantified quickly, evaluated for quality of work and put to use immediately for capital improvement planning, customer relations, operations planning and infrastructure inventory updates. This presentation will cover; Mapbook creation for project management, Database integration into geodatabases, Project reporting for capital improvements, Infrastructure inventory update benefits, Web map application data integrations for operations management and customer relations.

3D Web Services And Models For The Web: Where Do We Stand?Camptocamp
Theme: Data: presentations focused on data (be it capture, storage, discovery or new data models such as 3D, temporal data, big data).
The aim of this talk is to sum up the standardization efforts (OGC and W3C) in defining 3D web services and models, as well as to show existing implementations to support the discussion.
In the past years, numerous open source projects have started to display 3D globes and 3D data on the web. Standardizing web services, data format and representation models is, therefore, a very hot topic. There are in particular ongoing efforts on the OGC side as well as on the W3C side. The OGC has released a draft candidate for a 3D web service W3DS, the ISO X3D standard proposes an XML-based file format for representing 3D computer graphics and the W3C is considering adding X3D rendering into HTML5. Other projects implement their own web services and formats. On the implementation side, Geoserver supports W3DS and X3D, the X3DOM library prototypes a possible implementation of X3D HTML5 integration and last but not least, browsers with WebGL support are fully able to handle the representation of 3D data on the client side. The talk is going to detail the mentioned elements, show demonstrations of existing implementations and try to suggest a possible path into the 3D web for the FOSS4G community.

Connecting As-Built Drawings with Revit Through Scanning.docxRvtcad
In the realm of architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC), the evolution from traditional drafting methods to sophisticated digital technologies has been profound. One significant advancement is the integration of as-built drawings with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software like Revit. This convergence not only enhances efficiency but also ensures accuracy and precision in project documentation. At the heart of this integration lies scanning technology, which acts as the bridge connecting the physical world with the digital realm. This integration is made possible through scanning technology, acting as the bridge between the physical world and the digital realm.

Transforming Point Cloud Data into As-Built Drawings.pdfRvtcad
In the realm of construction and architecture, precision is paramount. Accuracy in as-built drawings—the finalized plans that reflect the actual constructed elements—is critical for efficient project management, renovations, and facility management. Traditionally, creating these drawings involved time-consuming manual measurements, leading to potential errors and delays. However, the advent of point cloud technology has revolutionized this process, offering a faster, more accurate, and comprehensive solution. In this article, we delve into the transformative power of transforming point cloud data into as-built drawings.

Modular Construction consists of one or more structure units fabricated in a
manufacturing plant away from the jobsite. In the building industry, prefabricated
modules are normally completed with trim work, electrical, mechanical and plumbing
installed. Previous studies have proved that Modular Construction provided many
advantages to the built environment, including the reduction of need for workforce,
the reduction of onsite Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, and the improvement of
construction schedule and product quality; however the extensive demand of pre-
project planning and coordination among members of cross-interdisciplinary
professionals have significantly impeded the application of this technique. With the
recent development of Building Information Modeling (BIM), these challenges could
be overcome through the BIM platform. Through case studies the benefits and
challenges of implementing BIM in modular construction are clearly identified.
Keywords: Building Information Modeling, Coordination, Prefabrication,
Building Systems.
Introduction
Modular construction refers to factory-built building units completely assembled or
fabricated in a manufacturing plant away from the jobsite, then transported and
assembled on site (Pasquire, 2002). Modular building normally consists of multiple
rooms with three-dimensional units, which are constructed and pre-assembled
complete with trim work, mechanical, electrical and plumbing components installed
(O’Brien, 2000). A large portion of construction research conducted in the United
States and globally discusses that the use of modular construction provides many
significant advantages, including: 1) the reduction of overall project schedules, 2) the
improvement of product quality, 3) increased ons.
Current practices to capture field conditions are manual and tedious, and often accompanied by inaccurate data. This leads to costly rework and project delays. Whether it is a complex renovation project or a large-scale infrastructure project, traditional surveying and documentation begin with a raster image based on a 2D blueprint that is converted in CAD to an editable file. Surveyors visit the construction site to verify existing conditions with the actual blueprint and check for any inconsistencies in the existing 2D blueprints.
For spaces that cannot be captured efficiently, other processes or tools are required to be used to measure objects through an easy and efficient process. Not only is this process time-consuming, but turns out to be incomplete and inaccurate leading to costly rework, delays, and change orders.
Traditional surveying methods exhibit the following limitations.
• Low reliability
• Limited accuracy and data coverage
• Inadequate As-Built data for 3D models or CAD drawings
• Inconsistent survey information that could lead to higher survey requirements
• Cost-prohibitive based on the need to hire survey experts, multiple site surveys, and costly rework
Ergo, an imperfectly set process often pulls projects into cost and time overruns due to expensive RFI’s and change orders.
Why deploy Reality Capture in Architecture and Design?
Generate precise dimensions for As-Built drawings
Create an accurate visualization of the design based on existing conditions
Validate 3D models with real-time design
Enhance stakeholder coordination and collaboration for the entire project
Reduce project guesswork and mitigate errors
Why deploy Reality Capture in Engineering and Construction?
Begin a project with precise data and problem identification
Avoid rework and costly delays through absolute collaboration
Reduce the number of site visits to save cost and time
Track project progress & identify potential problems
Validate actual work against the proposed design to make sure the project stays within budget
Leverage total collaboration throughout the project by comparing plans with 3D models
Share project progress with various trades and teams
Summary.
Reality Capture processes enable design and construction teams to leverage true confidence in their project. The difference in time, efficiency, and cost are far greater than in traditional surveying. As Reality Capture provides tremendous value at every building stage, its application can be extended to complex and large-scale renovation projects by saving on ROI, reduction in field trips, and better decision making.
