How does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media
products?
Evaluation question: Poster
 I have used a recurring theme within my album
poster, that is evident in my other types of
media for the song.
 Much like, Jessie J’s debut album, ‘Who you
are’. She shows the same image of her posing
for her poster and her CD, and everything
related to that album.
 In doing so, she creates an assosiated image for
that particular album.
Use conventions:
 I have tried to recreate this with the use of the
piano image.
 It is an image I have used for the digipak front
cover, and so have done so with my poster. It is
also a recurring piece of instrument in the
video, as Ben is seen playing it.
 In using the piano, I have tried to create an
identity for the band, by using a musical image
that can be associated with us.
Use conventions:
 Also, after research into what is usually
included in a typical digipak, I have included
features such as the release date, the album and
band names, production companies, etc.
 Doing so makes the poster look more
professional, and conforms to the conventions
of real life media products.
Use conventions:
 To develop the conventions of real life media
products, I have displayed the artist of the band, but
I have altered this so that he is not the main focus.
 I decided to make the piano the main focus of the
picture, and so including the artist of the band as a
‘side-image’.
 I feel that this puts emphasis on the uniqueness of
our band, and also highlights the theme of the piano
to our audience.
 Unlike most posters, including the artists as a side
image I feel works particularly effective for a small
band such as us, because the audience would not be
drawn to the poster via a picture of an artist they do
not recognise.
 Including the artist as a main image works well only
if they are high-profile and have a good fan base, as
their face is recognisable, and sells their albums.
Develop conventions:
 To challenge the conventions of real media posters, I have included a mass
amount of content, all of which are visible.
 Nowadays, posters for albums tend to include few words and are based
mainly on imagery and the artist.
 However, for my poster I feel that the more content I include the better due
to the stature of our band.
 As a low-profile band, including a lot of content about the album the poster
is trying to sell will appeal to the audience, as they learn more about the
album through the poster.
 Unlike the big stars, I could not have made my poster effective with just an
image and name as this would not catch the eye of the audience.
 I need a lot of content in order to promote the band, and attract people.
