All matter is made up of tiny, fundamental particles called atoms.
An atom is the smallest particle of an element that has all the
properties of an element.
The main physical characteristics of matter are mass, volume, weight,
density, odor, and color. These are the characteristics that help us to see
matter, feel matter, and taste matter.
Mass is defined as how much matter comprises an object
Mass is calculated as the product of an object's volume
and density.
Mass measures the amount of matter in a substance or
an object.
Volume is a measure of the
space occupied by an object
Density is defined as mass per
unit volume.
By definition, density is
mass per unit volume.
In other words, it is the
amount of matter
packed into a space.
Matter is anything that occupies space and
has mass.
It is made up of particles such as atom, ions,
or molecules.
Atom is the smallest particle of an element.
Atoms are single neutral
particles.
Molecules are neutral
particles made of two or
more atoms bonded
together.
An ion is a positively or
negatively charged
particle

What do you noticed when you spray a perfume?
The scent of the perfume can easily be detected because the
molecules diffuse easily since its particles are far apart of the
Particle Model of Matter one another. Liquids also diffuse but not as
fast as gases. Diffusion is the spreading of the particles of matter.

The features of the particle nature of matter are as
follows:
1. Matter is made up of tiny particles.
2. Particles of matter are moving all the time.
3. These particles have spaces between them
4. The particles of matter attract each other
The different physical properties of matter in this module are boiling point, melting
point, density and specific gravity.
The simple definition of boiling point is that it is the
temperature at which a liquid boils. For example, the boiling point
of water at sea level is 100 °C or 212 °F. The formal definition in
science is that boiling point is the temperature where the vapor
pressure of a liquid equals the vapor pressure of its environment.
At this temperature, the liquid changes into the vapor (gas)
phase.
The boiling point is not a constant value for a substance. The main
factor it depends on is pressure. For example, you see high-
altitude cooking directions on recipes because water boils at a
lower temperature at a higher altitude, where atmospheric
pressure is lower. If you drop the pressure to a partial
vacuum, water boils at room temperature.
