The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

‘The Magazine looks professional’
The Results show that all participants agreed that my magazine looked professional- whether this was Strongly Agree,
Agree or Mostly Agree. The Majority (59%) strongly agreed with the statement suggesting that my magazine did mimic
those already on the market, having a professional esteemed appearance. From written responses, I can infer that this
was mainly down to the layout which was up to a professional standard and the works similarity to those already on the
market. I think I was successful in making my magazine professional as I spent copious amounts of time editing and
changing paying attention to small detail so that there was little space for mistakes.
2. Front Cover Contents Page Band Interview
Which section looks most professional?
41% of participants agreed that the Cover was the most professional section whilst another 41% of participants agreed
Band Interview (double page spread) was the most professional section suggesting that these two features stood out
over the Contents page, which only 18% believed was. This wad due to the many aspects- particularly images. In my
opinion, the pages in which the images were the main focus were more successful and the drew the audiences attention
better meaning that these were seen as the most professional. The contents page had more factual information so the
audience were less interested.
3. Strongly Agree Agree Mostly Agree
Mostly Disagree Disagree Strongly Disagree
‘The cover image attracted my attention immediately’
All participants agreed that the cover image attracted their attention immediately. 75% of the people who answered my
questionnaire agreed whilst 25% strongly agreed suggesting that I succeeded in attracted the attention through the use
of an image which utilised Mise en Scene, Direct mode of address etc, however I could have done things slightly different
so that all participants strongly agreed that their attention was drawn immediately. The fact that not one participant
disagreed with this statement tells me that I was successful in creating an effective cover, the most important feature to
the magazine. As the target audience are indie music fans, the fact that it caught their attention immediately tells me
that I have defined the genre well.
4. Strongly Agree Agree Mostly Agree
Mostly Disagree Disagree Strongly Disagree
‘The coverlines made me want to read the rest of the magazine’
The response for this statement told me that my cover lines may not have been completely successful, as 10% of the
audience disagreed that the cover lines attracted them making them want to read on. Despite this, a combined 90%
agreed that they did want to read the rest of the magazine after reading the cover lines. I feel I was successful with this
as I researched Indie artists and figure heads and therefore chose who I was going to include carefully so that the
audience would be attracted by people they are already a fan of.
5. Strongly Agree Agree Mostly Agree
Mostly Disagree Disagree Strongly Disagree
‘The contents page was easy to read and well organised’
100% of the participants somewhat agreed that the contents page was a success as it was easy to read and well
organised. Only 17% mostly agreed meaning that the rest agreed or strongly agreed. I think this is because the contents
page was structured neatly into columns and categories so readers could easily navigate the page and therefore find
what they are looking for fast and efficiently.
6. Strongly Agree Agree Mostly Agree
Mostly Disagree Disagree Strongly Disagree
‘The images on the contents page were attractive and made me
want to read the connected article’
Half (50%) answered that they agreed that the images featured within the contents page were relevant and aesthetically
pleasing. I chose my contents page photographs with care so that they anchored meaning the content listing and to a
particular article. One participant mostly disagreed with this statement however written responses were positive,
complimenting the camera skills and the choice of photograph etc.
7. Strongly Agree Agree Mostly Agree
Mostly Disagree Disagree Strongly Disagree
‘The band interview was professional and interesting’
More than half of the participants agreed that the interview was professional and interesting with not one disagreeing
with this statement. I feel this was because of the extensive research I did into article writing, gathering tips and skills
which meant that I was able to create an authentic piece of writing. As 8% of the sample mostly agreed this suggested
that I could have done more to make the interview more interesting.
8. Strongly Agree Agree Mostly Agree
Mostly Disagree Disagree Strongly Disagree
‘The Images on the double page spread complimented the
article well’
When taking the photographs for my double page spread I made sure that they were representative of the article and
theme so that the text and pictures came together as one attention catching piece. Participants concluded that the
Images did compliment the article well and 59% agreed as they liked the layout of the page. I think my DPS was
successful for this very reason.
9. Strongly Agree Agree Mostly Agree
Mostly Disagree Disagree Strongly Disagree
‘The colour scheme attracted my attention and complimented
the genre’
The people who answered my questionnaire liked my colour scheme for multiple reasons including its brightness and
relation to the indie genre of the magazine. The green colour was a good choice however I should have used more red as
this was the colour that most participants wanted. 33% strongly agreed that the colour scheme was attractive.
10. Strongly Agree Agree Mostly Agree
Mostly Disagree Disagree Strongly Disagree
‘The Magazine suited the indie genre’
Because 75% of my audience strongly agreed that the magazine suited the Indie genre I can safely say that I was
successful in creating a believable set of Magazine Pages which reflected that Indie genre that my magazine was a
promoter of. All participants agreed with the statement meaning I am confident that my product could be sellable on the
magazine market as I was able to make It suit the genre that I intended to.
11. Images Interview Contents Cover
What was your favourite feature in the magazine?
Half of all questionnaire participants (50%) thought that the images were the best feature in the magazine- I am
extremely happy about this because I spent multiple sessions taking and retaking my images until I got the best results I
possibly could and was completely happy with the outcome. 0% of all who answered like the contents page the most.
