We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2. Narrative
How we established a plot?
We all individually wrote out two ideas which could potentially by
used for our film. This was so we had multiple ideas and we could
see which the bet option for us would be.We ended up choosing
to do a crime movie as the idea would be easy to use and film but
also look good as it has challenging aspect within. The movie is set
out in a local town which adds a sense of realism and makes it look
more believable as it looks like events like this take place every
day. It is all revolved two drug dealers who want to be the best as
selling drugs. However, one gets caught after an argument and
gets taken to the police station where he meets PC Bloor. There is
then an interview which takes place in a police station where the
character is questioned for their involvement in the criminal
activity. After we had decided on a plot we then had to write it in
the form of a script. To do this we used the software Celtx as it
allowed us to put in descriptions as well as the dialogue itself.
3. Genre
Where does it look like our
chosen genre?
In our film there is a section
where we filmed a police
interview which are things
commonly filmed in crime
films as they are generally
associated together. We
wanted to make this look as
realistic as possible so we
removed all things related to
college to make it look more
like a police questioning room.
We then turned off all the
lights and just used a lamp to
use as a fill lighting to add
atmosphere to the scene. As
you can see from the two
images they both have one key
source light which makes it
seem more mysterious and
tense.
4. Camera
angles, shots
and
movement
In our film we used a variety of different shots, angles and
movements and we did this as we wanted our movie to look as
good as possible. Also we wanted to show some of the skills which
we have learnt throughout the process of making the film.
The first shot we used was a long shot. By using this early on
whilst showing a character the audience can look at the character
and may be able to have more of a clue as to what may happen in
the film. Also, they could find out more about the film from the
setting in the background and by what the character is wearing.
The long shot then changes into a tracking shot where we see the
character go into a close by cafe. This then allows us to see more
of the setting and make pressumtions but it also keeps continuity
and helps to develop the plot.
5. Camera
angles, shots
and
movement
The next shot we used was a mid shot.We used this when we
began to introduce our second character and drug dealer. By
doing this the audience yet again could see the characters face
and costume which made it easier for them to understand what
may be going on and who the characters are and what they're
doing.
We then used a two shot of with the first character we saw with
someone in a hood.We did this to show parallel editing so the
audience knew that the events shown were taken place at the
same time. This then went to a shot reverse shot as the scene cut
back to the alleyway where the second character was situated.
6. Camera
angles, shots
and
movement
There is then another tracking shot used of the character going
towards the other alley way where the other drug dealer is. By
using a tracking shot it allows time to build up suspense and get
the audience questioning themselves as to what will happen next.
We did this filming hand held and was able to do this just by using
the tripod. We did this as we knew if the camera wobbled and
wasn't a straight and smooth transition it didn't matter as it would
portray the trouble behind the whole plot. The shot is also a long
shot and it quite zoomed out. However, I thought this was a good
way to film it as it show the full character for recognition and the
nvironment again. Also, we can now see a bag being used as a
prop so the audience will be able to tell that the drug dealer is now
supplied and something bad may happen.
7. Camera
angles, shots
and
movement
Once the film reached it's title sequence we wanted to have a
background to the shot which would be appropriate to use.We
decided to use an establishing shot as this shows the audience the
whole area and makes them more aware of how a standard basic
place could have issues behind it as well. By using a regular town it
gives a sense of realism which we wanted to show through our
movie.
8. Sound
For the majority of our film we have non diagetic sound which is
used as it creates and adds tension to the scene as well as creating
a mysterious suspense. The non diagetic sound is a piece of music I
found on a free music site on the internet. We decided to find a
piece of music from a free website as it was quick and easy to do
as well as having multiple options but there was then no issues
with legislations such as Copyright. The non-diagetic sound
however is interrupted when we reach the scene at the alleyway
as there is dialogue and communication between the two drug
dealers. Also in the background you can slightly hear some
asynchronous sound of footsteps as the drug dealers approach
each other in the alleyway. The piece of music then changes to
another as the title screen comes on to a more upbeat piece of
music.
In the police officers office there is then diagetic sound of the
phone ringing which yet again makes the film seem more realistic
as it is an everyday sound that people are used to hearing.
9. Mise-en-scene
The first character we see is the respectable drug dealer who has a
reputation for what he does.Looking back at the first long shot
you can see that we have chosen all black for the character to
wear.We decided to do this as the character then looks more
mysterious and makes the viewer more anxious to see what will
happen next.We then chose for him to wear a black snapback as
we wanted the character to portray the image of a drug dealer as
accurate as possible. We then dressed the second drug dealer in
similar attire as then it was easy for the audience to distinguish the
fact that they were both drug dealers.
10. Mise-en-scene
In our film we didn't use many props as they weren't needed.
However, our main prop was a bag. This is because it shows the
drugs being dropped off and then an attempt at them being
stolen.
Another prop was a computer and phone which were located in
the office at the police station. Both these items added a sense of
realism to the movie and made it more believable as these are
things we are used to seeing on a day to day basis.
Next there was a lamp which we used in the police station. This
was a vital piece of equipment to use as a prop as it made the
lighting have a sense of tension about it as we couldn't see
everything that was going on because there wasn't much light.
11. Typography
There wasn't much typography used in our film as it wasn't needed
and we didn't want to draw too much attention away from our film.
However, we did use typography when the title screen came up on
the page.We opted for a large bold font which was in the colour
white. We chose the colour through the process of elimination as we
wanted to see which would stand out more and be easier for the
audience to read.
