Tata Nano was envisioned as an affordable "people's car" for middle class Indian families. When first announced in 2006, it received over 200,000 advance bookings. However, production faced issues including land acquisition controversies in West Bengal that led Tata to move manufacturing to Gujarat. While Tata overcame challenges like vehicle fires to eventually fulfill its promise of producing India's cheapest car, the Nano struggled with perceptions as a cheap vehicle and lacked sufficient power for its size. Looking ahead, Tata hopes future vehicles like the proposed electric Tata Pixel can help overcome past issues and better serve customers.
