Dramatic programming in the UK, or television drama and television drama series in the United States is
television programs content that is scripted and (normally) fictional along the lines of a traditional drama. Also,
by convention, the term is not generally used for situation comedy or soap opera.
Most dramatic television programming falls within other standard categories such as miniseries made-for-TV
movies or certain rather circumscribed dramatic genres. One major category of dramatic programing,
particularly in the United States, is Crime Drama.
A television series that is intended to comprise a limited number of episodes is usually called a miniseries or
serial. Series without a fixed length are usually divided into seasons or series, yearly or biannual instalments of
new episodes.

The Silence merges the thriller genre with a family drama. When DCI Jim Edwards takes on the homicide
investigation of a murdered policewoman, he has no idea how it is going to impact on his relationship with his
family. When it transpires that his deaf niece, Amelia, witnessed the murder it puts huge pressure on Jim; he
decides to withhold Amelia as a formal witness to protect her, but Jim struggles to make headway with the
case whilst keeping Amelia's identity a secret.
Serials are series of television programs and radio programs that rely on a continuing plot that unfolds in a
sequential episode-by-episode fashion. Serials typically follow main story arcs that span entire television
seasons or even the full run of the series, which distinguishes them from traditional episodic television that
relies on more stand-alone episodes. Worldwide, the soap opera is the most prominent form of serial dramatic
programming.
Serials rely on keeping the full nature of the story hidden and revealing elements episode by episode to keep
viewers tuning in to learn more. Often these shows employ recapping segments at the beginning and cliff-
hangers at the end of each episode. Such shows also place a demand on viewers to tune in to every episode to
follow the plot.

A short film is any film not long enough to be considered a feature film. No consensus exists as to where that

non profit organizations, sponsor, or out of pocket funds. These films are used by indie filmmakers to prove their
talent in order to gain funding for future films from private investors, entertainment companies, or film studios.
