1. How did you use new media technologies in the
construction, research and planning and
evaluation stages of your project?
2. Construction
• The use of media technologies, such as youtube and imovie, helped us a lot because if we hadnt
of used these then we wouldn’t have created our final piece.
• Firstly we had to think of the idea what we wanted to do and that was documentary. Then we
decided how we were going to do this and we decided to use the cameras that school provided,
with previous work with them in our earlier years of A level, we knew that the quality of the
camera’s wasn’t great but there wasn’t anything we could about that, we tried to make the quality
good as best as we could. After several weeks of filming everything we got everything we needed
uploaded to Imovie (on the mac computers, that allows you to upload footage)and we had all the
footage we had filmed on there, we decided it was time to start editing the different clips together
that we wanted. We had a lot of footage so picking the footage that would work the best proved
to be harder than we thought, but we tried our best to make it as continuous as we could. So after
we had all our original footage filmed, we decided that it would be a great opportunity to extend
our film a little further and use some clips from famour movies, as it would tie great together with
the genre of our film, we manage to find these clips on youtube. To make the clips less boring we
decided to add our own music onto them. We added two different tracks, that really worked well
with the clips, I believe if we hadnt of added the music, it wouldn’t of really worked great with the
clips, as they would have been quiet boring, so I believe we made a good choice there.
3. Research
• I believe that I put quiet a lot of effort into research of the genre of my film, “documentary”. I spent
a great deal of time looking at reviews on the internet just to see what people thought about
documentaries and what people thought could be improved within them. I also spent quiet a lot of
time on youtube putting in effort to find different documentarys, and I didn’t find too many what
people had done that I could relate to a lot, but I did find some interesting ones, that I got tips
from, which helped a lot. I found an excellent documentary that a older student had done, and it
was about love, and me and ellie really enjoyed watching this and we based our film on it, and
really got quiet a lot of ideas from it. I would say that it gave us the most inspiration to do a
documentary, as we really enjoyed watching that one.
4. Planning
• We didn’t do a great deal of planning for our film, which maybe we should of, and it might of
helped us a lot more. We did the basic planning of a story board and a spider digram to shot
ideas down, and we also did a rough draft of our print products “review, and film poster” these are
on my main blog.
• I thought the story board really helped me actually because I could really relate to what was going
to happen within my film and I could actually see what it was going to look like once we had
finished everything off and I had my final product.
• I would say that, that was the most helpful part of our planning, I think maybe in the future we
should have just done the planning we really needed rather than having too much that we
couldn’t relate to. As I would of rather just got straight on with the filming.
