City of Ann Arbor: Monthly UM staff–City staff meetings
• Construction project updates, planning, cooperation
• Coordinate capital improvement investment

5. Largest payments to the City/AATA
• Water, Sewer & Storm
o Nearly $ 8 million in FY 2008
o Represents ~ 20 - 22% of City’s total W&S operating revenues
• UM Construction Fees: utility fees, road closures, curb cuts, shared costs for repaving city streets.
o Connection fees increased 4-fold in last 5 years, over 50% of City’s total connection fee revenues,
e.g. Public Policy ~ $250K, BSRB ~$500K, CVC ~ $350K, Eye Center ~$550K
o UM has contributed towards repaving costs when city streets run adjacent to UM facilities
• Imputed Property Taxes
o Estimated taxes on leased space of ~ 1 million square feet and $23 million in annual lease expenses
o UM is ~15% of current Ann Arbor area “occupied” lease market (6.7 million sq feet in total)
• AATA payments & funds leveraged
o 2.25 million UM rides in FY 2009
o Per current agreement, payment of $1,073,000 in FY 2009
o UM system ridership #’s leverages ~ $895,000 of federal funds for regional transit.
Note: UM in-kind staff contribution for participation and coordination in many City planning efforts not included.

o Citation collection contract provides ~ $300K.
o Lot leases, shared Forest Street structure, and bagged meters.
• Ann Arbor Public Schools & Board of Education
o Parking lot rentals by Athletics, adult education classes.
• Balance of Payments
o Rent value and operating costs for north campus fire station (~$220K per
year), UM contributed $300K for City fire truck in FY2004.
o Police special services annually depending on # of home games.
o Imputed water & sewer costs in full service rent payments (~$180K)
o In-kind expense of OSEH providing assistance on spills and monitoring
radioactive materials at City MRF

• Business Engagement Center and Student Career Services work with
County to connect university resources and talent with area

• Collaboration on attracting and hosting groups and events to campus

o Museum of Art, Exhibit Museum, Kelsey, Athletics, etc.

• Health-coverage program for low-income residents without access to
affordable health insurance or Medicaid. Over 4,500 patients served
at UMHS
• Partnership with County, UMHS, St. Joseph-Mercy
Washtenaw Community Health Organization
• Physical and mental health care for children and adolescents with
serious emotional disorders, adults with severe and persistent mental
illnesses, persons with developmental disabilities, and those with
substance abuse problems
• Over 7,800 cases managed at UMHS

• Annual campus campaign generates pledges and
contributions from UM employees of over $1 million for
health and human services organizations

Ann Arbor Summer Festival
• 26th year for three-week summer music and entertainment festival now
held on Ingalls Mall
• University major contributing partner ($30K + in kind)
Ann Arbor Art Fair
• University has hosted portions of the fair on Ingalls Mall during construction
of nearby facilities
• Coordination of U-M operations during the fair while access is limited
• In-kind assistance of grounds, shelter, and restroom access
University Musical Society/University Museum of Art/Nichols Arboretum
• Internationally acclaimed performance productions/exhibits
• UMMA - representative of all the museums and collections open and
available to the public
• Nichols Arboretum – UM /City shared recreation & educational resource
