Surah Al Ikhlas
Translation of Surah Al Ikhlas
• Say, “He is Allah, the one.
• Allah, the Eternal, the Absolute
• He begets not, nor is He begotten
• And there is none equivalent to Him
Theme of Surah Al Ikhlas
• It is called Ikhlas which is precisely what
the surah is all about. Ikhlas means to
have faith in God's being and His
attributes.
• Surah Ikhlas directly supports the first
declaration (shahadah) of Islam: "There is
no god but Allah". In this context, Islam is
based on belief in one God (monotheism).
Introduction
• Surah Al-Ikhlas is 112th chapter of the Qur’an
• The Arabic root of the word Ikhlas is kh-l-s which
means to be purified or refined.
• Surah Ikhlas mentions two names of Allah which
together indicate all the Attributes of perfection.
They are not mentioned in any other verse: “al-
Ahad” and “Al-samad.” These two names
indicate the oneness of the Sacred Being who
possesses all the attributes of perfection.
Virtue
• Prophet (P.B.U.H) said it is equal to 1/3 of the
Quran
• Quran can mainly be divided to three theme
– The concept of God
– The concept of Unseen
– The Laws
• Other Hadiths mention
– Allah’s love who love this Surah

Different Names of Surah Ikhlas
Some of them are mentioned below:
• Surah Taw heed; this is because the belief of
Taw heed (monotheism) has been covered in
this Surah in a very concise and comprehensive
manner.
• Surah Al-Asaas (foundation); this is because
the fortress of faith and deeds stands high on
the foundations of taw heed. Without this
foundation even the greatest of actions are
rendered invaluable.

• Surah Al-Aman; this is because the believer of
this Surah is protected from the anger and wrath
of Allah
• Surah Al-Noor this is because the rays of light
emitted from it enlighten both worlds of the
believer. Both his heart and mind become clear.
• Surah al-Man iah; this is because it
protects the one who recites it from the
punishment of Hell.
Benefits
• Recitation of Surah al-Ikhlas is equivalent to a third of
the Quran.
• Whoever recites this Surah in his obligatory
prayers Allah grants him good in this world as well as in
the next life and forgives him, his parents and children.
• Allah likes very much those who recite this Surah
regularly.
• If this Surah is recited for a dead person the reward
is like of reciting the whole Quran.
• Whoever recites this surah ten times, Allah will build for
him a dwelling in paradise.

the time of death.
