Why we choose this Topic
• Great message for whole mankind.
• Imam Shafe has very rightly said that if
the people only considered this Surah
well, it alone would do them for their
guidance.
Introduction
• Surah Al-Asr descends at Makkah and it has three
Ayaat.
• The Surah takes its name from the word Al-Asr
occurring in the first verse.
• This Surah is a matchless example of
comprehensiveness and brevity.
• A whole world of meaning has been compressed
into its few brief words, which is too vast in content
to be fully expressed even in a book.
• In it, in a clear and plain way it has been stated
what is the way to true success for man and what is
the way to destroy for him.
Topics Discussed
 Why ALLAH Has Taken An Oath?
 Loss of Mankind
 Faithful Persons
 Exhorting One Another To Patience
and Truth
Why ALLAH Has Taken An
Oath ?
The simple translation for the word ‘Asr that Allah (swt)
uses here would be “Time”. But in reality it gives a far
deeper and a far more comprehensive meaning. Not
only does it mean time, but it means time that is
limited and time that is fleeting. The word ASR means
time that is limited. Time that will soon end. This is what
Allah (swt) is swearing to in this ayah. The time that will
end.
Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) reminds us:
"There are two of God's favors that are forgotten by
many people: health and free time."
Oath in relation to the
Message of the Quran
• How great is this oath for each and every one of us.
• This oath also refers to the time in which we pray our
ASR Salah. The importance of this particular Salah
and the blessings of the time in which this Salah is
prayed. The ayah in Surah Al-Baqarah where Allah
(swt) has called this the mid-most prayer, and He
(swt) has commanded us to be especially careful of
guarding this Salah.
• Narrated Ibn Umar: Allah’s Apostle said, “Whoever
misses the ‘Asr prayer (intentionally), then it is as if he
lost his family and property.”
Loss of Mankind
o The word “insan” has two root meanings according
to Arabic philologists.
o The linguistic roots of human, Unsiyyah and Nisyan,
are evidence to the fact that humans have a
bipolar existence consisting of positive and
negative poles. ’
o The negative pole of humans is evident in their
behavior against the lost heavens and a deceptive
Satan. The positive pole of humans is revealed in
their unique capacity to establish exceptional
relationship with their creator, Allah, the Almighty,
other fellow human beings, and the nature.
Loss of Mankind
• The word time is used for the past as well as for the
passing time in which the present, in fact, does not
signify any long stretch of time.
• Save man from loss is to perform righteous deeds
(salihalt). Salihat comprehends all kinds of virtuous and
good deeds. However, according to the Quran, no act
can be a good act unless it is based on Faith and it is
performed in obedience to the guidance given by Allah
and His Messenger (peace be upon him).
• Quran describes success in 3:185 as: ‘Every human being
is bound to taste death: but only on the Day of
Resurrection will you be requited in full [for whatever you
have done] whereupon he that shall be drawn away
from the fire and brought into paradise will indeed have
been successful: for the life of this world is nothing but an
enjoyment of self-delusion’.
Faithful Persons
• A faithful person is trustworthy and
reliable.
• Faithfulness that matters most is the
faithfulness we show towards God.
How we can prove our
faithfulness
• Having the Right Values
• Care for the Interest of Others
• Integrity
• Keep to His or Her Words/promises
• Do you obey God’s commands ?
Exhorting One Another To
Truth
 Which a man must have in order to be saved from
loss. They are that the people who believe and do
good deeds must exhort on another to truth and to
patience.
 Truth is the anonym of falseness.
 The right which is obligatory on man to render,
Weather it is the right of GOD and the right of one’s
own self.
 “Those who adopted the way of disbelief among the
children of Israel were cursed by the tongue of David
and of Jesus, Son of Mary, because they had grown
rebellious and become transgressors: they would not
forbid one another to do the wrong deeds they
committed.”, Al-Maidah.
Exhorting One Another To
Patience
• Besides exhorting to the truth, the other thing which has
been declared as a necessary condition for keeping the
believers and their society secure from loss is that the
members of the society should enjoin patience upon
one another. That is, they should enjoin upon one
another to bear with fortitude and steadfastness the
difficulties, hardships, trials, losses and deprivations which
befall the one who adheres to the truth and supports it.
Each one of them should encourage the other to bear
up against adversity steadfastly.
• O you who believe Seek help through patience and the
prayer. Indeed, Allah (is) with the patient ones, (al-
Baqarah 2:153).
• Those who are patient will surely be given their reward
without measure, (az-Zumar 39:10).
Conclusion
 Allah promised of success and felicity for
those who believe in Him (swt).
 With the passage of time Humans can find
themselves in loss because they rejected
God’s message or failed to live according to
it.
 This Surah is a simple path for success.
