2. What is Nuclear Power Plant 1
A nuclear power plant is a thermal power station in
which the heat source is one or more nuclear
reactors.
Nuclear power plants are usually considered to be
base load stations, which are best suited to
constant power output.
5. 4
• The amount of fuel required is quite small.
• A nuclear power plant requires less space as compared to any other
power plants.
• This type of power plant is very economical for producing large amount
of electric power.
• Running cost is low as it takes small amount of fuel.
• It can be located near to the load centers.
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
• The fuel used is very expensive & difficult to recover.
• The capital cost is also very high.
• This plant is not well suited for varying loads as the reactor does
not respond instantly.
• The fission by product are radioactive and may cause a
dangerous radioactive pollution.
• Maintenance cost is very high.

At present, as a developing country like Bangladesh it is not possible
to supply sufficient electricity without nuclear energy. So, we need to
produce enough energy or electricity by building nuclear power plant
as soon as possible.
Bangladesh has taken plan to build nuclear power plant by 2016 as
vision of 2021. Bangladesh said, it will produce 1000 megawatt power
with technological support from Russia. ( Ref: www.bdnews24.com)
