Implentation of solar power plant in lpu
1. IMPLENTATION OF SOLAR
POWER PLANT IN LPU
Environmental studies(CHE110) case study
Under the Guidelines of Ms. Anjali Singh
2. Introduction
The solar plant is capable of producing 99kw
Per day it produces 400 to 500 units
Per year 150000 units
So by using Solar energy LPU is saving so much energy produced by the
non renewable sources and money also
LPU is contributing so much to save environment
By running the solar power plant LPU is promoting sustainable
development
So we should use the energy properly
3. History of Solar power
William Grylls Adams first discovered the solar
energy.
Inn 1953 silicon solar cells were discovered
From 1956 solar cells were commercially
available
In 1960’s people started using solar cells in
satellites
Further many new modifications came up and
now people are widely using solar cells for
various purposes.
In present days solar energy is considered as
the best energy source
4. Components of solar power system
1.Solar panel
4.Wires
3.Solar Inverter2.Solar batteries
5. Working of solar panels
Solar panels actually comprise many, smaller units called
Solar cells or Photovoltaic cells.
Many cells linked together make up a solar panel.
They convert only light energy in electrical energy but
not the heat energy.
The photovoltaic cell is made up of an PN junction diode
in reverse biased condition.
When the sun light falls on the solar cell the photons
activate the electrons in the diode and the electrons
start to move.
8. Working of solar inverter
A solar inverter converts the variable direct current (DC)
output of a photovoltaic (PV) solar panel into alternating
current (AC) that can be used.
It gives the data about how much power was produced
11. Solar plant in LPU
Located on the top of 38th block
Constructed in 2013
Took 3 months to construct
Amount of 1 crore was invested
30% subsidy was given Punjab
government
Produces 99kW
If it is 100kW it becomes commercial
So some panels are removed to get
subsidy
12. Specifications of solar power plant in LPU
Each solar panel produces:
i. 250W
ii. 37.25V
iii. 8.75A
iv. 77.06%
Specifications of solar inverter:
i. Max volatage-1000V DC
ii. Max current-41A DC
iii. Max output-3X400V AC
iv. Max output-3X29A AC
v. Frequency-50(or)60HZ
vi. Power-19.2kW
13. Connections
The solar panels are of “Vikram solar” company
The solar inverters are of “REFUsol” company
There 396 solar panels
There 5 solar inverters
Every 20 solar panels are connected in series
These set of 20 panels are connected in parallel at the
inverter
All the outputs of 5 solar inverters are connected and
transmitted to the sub-station
In the substation the solar power is connected to the load
The voltage of solar power is higher than the govt.
electricity
So the solar power is consumed first
The history of photovoltaic energy (solar energy) started way back in 1876. William Grylls Adams along with a student of his, Richard Day, discovered that when selenium was exposed to light, it produced electricity. The selenium cells were not efficient, but it was proved that light, without heat or moving parts, could be converted into electricity.
In 1953, Calvin Fuller, Gerald Pearson, and Daryl Chapin, discovered the silicon solar cell. This cell actually produced enough electricity and was efficient enough to run small electrical devices.
In the year 1956 first solar cells were available commercially. The cost however is far from the reach of common people.
In 1960’s people started using solar cells in satellites
Further many new modifications came up and now people are widely using solar cells for various purposes.
In present days solar energy is considered as the best energy source
